Sir,<\/font><\/p>\n

Will you kindly allow me to express
\nthrough your columns
\nmy deep sense of gratitude to all who have helped me in my hour
\nof trial ? Of the innumerable friends known and unknown, who
\nhave contributed each his mite to swell my defence fund, it is
\nimpossible for me now even to learn the names, and I must ask
\nthem to accept this public expression of my feeling in place of
\nprivate gratitude; since my acquittal many telegrams and letters
\nhave reached me and they are too numerous to reply to individually. The love which my countrymen have heaped upon me
\nin return for the little I have been able to do for them, amply
\nrepays any apparent trouble or misfortune my public activity
\nmay have brought upon me. I attribute my escape to no human
\nagency, but first of all to the protection of the Mother of us all
\nwho has never been absent from me but always held me in Her
\narms and shielded me from grief and disaster, and secondarily
\nto the prayers of thousands which have been going up to Her on
\nmy behalf ever since I was arrested. If it is the love of my country
\nwhich led me into danger, it is also the love of my countrymen
\nwhich has brought me safe through it.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nCase, in view of a public appeal which had been issued by his sister Sarojini
\nGhose for

\nKARMAYOGIN<\/b><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nSri Aurobindo, shortly after his
\nacquittal in the Alipore Conspiracy Case in May 1909, started an English Weekly Review named
\nKarmayogin<\/i>. Since almost the entire journal was written by him,
\nuntil he retired in February 1910 to Chandernagore, the editorial comments and
\nprincipal articles are reproduced here exactly as they appeared from issue to
\nissue. This volume, however, contains only the political observations and those on the spirit of
\nIndian Nationalism. Articles on Yoga, Religion, Philosophy
\nand Literature appear in their respective volumes.<\/font> <\/p>\n

\nseen my review of <\/i>"The Ideal of the Karmayogin<\/i>" ?<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A:<\/b> Yes, I have seen it, but I
\ndon’t think it can be published in
\nits present form as it prolongs the political Aurobindo of that
\ntime into the Sri Aurobindo of the present time. You even assert
\nthat I have "thoroughly" revised the book and these articles are
\nan index of my latest views on the burning problems of the day
\nand there has been no change in my views in 27 years (which
\nwould surely be proof of a rather unprogressive mind). How do
\nyou get all that? My spiritual consciousness and knowledge at
\nthat time was as nothing to what it is now \u2014 how would the
\nchange leave my view of politics and life unmodified altogether ?
\nThere has been no such thorough revision; I have left the book
\nas it is, because it would be useless to modify what was written
\nso long ago \u2014 the same as with YOGA AND
\n<\/span>ITS <\/span>OBJECTS<\/span>. Anyway
\nthe review would almost amount to a proclamation of my present political views \u2014
\nwhile on the contrary I have been careful to pronounce nothing \u2014 no views whatever on political questions for
\nthe last I don’t know how many years.<\/font><\/p>\n
