\nTo the Centenary Library<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nIt is perhaps inevitable in the printing of such a large work as the SRI
\n<\/font>AUROBINDO <\/font>BIRTH <\/font>CENTENARY
\n<\/font>LIBRARY <\/font>that some typographical and other errors should find
\ntheir way into the texts. The more significant of those which have come to light are
\nlisted below. Obvious mistakes of spelling, punctuation, etc. which would cause
\nno confusion to the reader have been omitted from the list, although all errors are,
\nof course, being rectified in the facsimile editions of Sri Aurobindo’s works which are
\ncurrently being reproduced photographically from the SRI <\/font>AUROBINDO
\n<\/font>BIRTH <\/font>CENTENARY <\/font>LIBRARY
\n<\/font>editions.<\/p>\n

\nThe list includes not only errors found by us or by observant readers in the course
\nof normal reading, but several discovered during a systematic search which has been
\ninitiated with a view to making the texts perfect. So far verificatory readings of The
\nLife Divine and Savitri have been undertaken in order to compare the present texts not
\nonly with the first edition, but also with the original manuscripts, corrected typed
\ncopies and proof sheets.<\/p>\n

\nRecent bibliographical research indicates that some of Sri Aurobindo’s writings
\nassigned by us to one period of his literary activity actually belong to another.
\nThus The Genius of Valmiki (Volume 3, page 137), the lyric "Perfect thy motion"
\n(Volume 5, page 7) and the dramatic fragment "Achab \u2014 Esarhaddon" (Volume 7,
\npage 1085) all seem to have been written in Pondicherry and not, as stated, in Baroda
\nor England. Certain other minor errors occurring in the Bibliographical Notes at the
\nend of one or two of the volumes will be corrected in future editions.<\/p>\n
