G. Deshpande. <i>New Lamps for Old<\/i> appeared in nine<br \/>\ninstalments from August 7, 1893 to March 5,&#8217;1894. This<br \/>\nseries was preceded by another political article, &quot;India and<br \/>\nthe British Parliament&quot; (June 26, 1893). The second series, <i>Bankim Chandra Chatterjee<\/i>, written after the passing of the<br \/>\nBengali writer, appeared in seven instalments from July 16<br \/>\nto August 27, 1894.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\nA revolutionary journal started by Sri Aurobindo&#8217;s<br \/>\nbrother Barindra and others in March 1906. Sri Aurobindo<br \/>\nwrote articles for some of the earlier issues of the paper,<br \/>\nand always exercised general control over it. It ceased<br \/>\npublication in May 1908.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\nA newspaper started on August 6, 1906 under the editorship of Bepin Chandra Pal. Sri Aurobindo became joint<br \/>\neditor of the paper and before the end of 1906 assumed<br \/>\nfull control of its policy. He wrote many of its editorials<br \/>\nand leading articles, and also some planned series including <i>The Doctrine of Passive Resistance<\/i>. It ceased publication<br \/>\nin October 1908, six months after Sri Aurobindo was<br \/>\nimprisoned in the Alipore &#8216;Bomb Case. A weekly edition<br \/>\nof <i>Bande Mataram<\/i> was published from June 1907 to<br \/>\nSeptember 1908, in which editorials and articles from<br \/>\nthe daily edition were reprinted. The play <i>Perseus the<br \/>\nDeliverer<\/i> and the translation <i>Vidula<\/i> first appeared in this<br \/>\nweekly edition.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&quot;A Weekly Review of National Religion, Literature,<br \/>\nScience, Philosophy, etc.&quot; Started on June 15, 1909 by Sri<br \/>\nAurobindo, who wrote practically all of its articles and editorial comments, and published in it a number of his poems<br \/>\nand translations. When he left for Chandernagore in<br \/>\nFebruary 1910, he put the journal into the hands of Sister<br \/>\nNivedita. Writings by him continued to appear in it until<br \/>\nit ceased publication on March 26, 1910.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 125%;margin-left: 25pt;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\nStarted on August 23, 1909 under the editorship of<br \/>\nSri Aurobindo, who wrote most of its articles and editorial<br \/>\ncomments himself. His connection with the journal ended<br \/>\nwhen he left for Chandernagore in February 1910. Its first issue came out<br \/>\non August 15, 1920 with a contribution &quot;Ourselves&quot; by<br \/>\nSri Aurobindo. In later issues it published several articles,<br \/>\npoems etc. by Sri Aurobindo, many of which had been<br \/>\nwritten in 1909 and 1910 and intended for publication in the <i>Karmayogin<\/i>. Since 1915 the Prabartak Samgha has brought<br \/>\nout a Bengali monthly, <i>Prabartak<\/i>.
