the air burning desire<br \/>\nAnd breathless, a plumb weight of flame; yet rode <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The<br \/>\nArabian unfeeling like a god.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Three<br \/>\nhours he rode and now no more was seen<br \/>\nBagdad, the imperial city, nor aught green,<br \/>\nBut the illimitable sands around<br \/>\nExtend, a silent world waiting for sound,<br \/>\nWhen in the distance he descried a grace<br \/>\nOf motion beautiful in that dead place.<br \/>\nWondering he turned, but suddenly the horse <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Pricked<br \/>\nup his slender ears, swerved from the course <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">And<br \/>\npawing stood the unwilling air, nor heard <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The<br \/>\nguiding voice nor the familiar word. <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Whinnying<br \/>\nwith wrath he smote the desert sand <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">And<br \/>\nmocked the rein and raged at the command. <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Then<br \/>\nraised the man his face and saw above<br \/>\nNo cloud with the stark face of heaven strove,<br \/>\nA single blaze of light from pole to pole.<br \/>\nSmiling the Arabian spoke unto his soul.<br \/>\n&quot;Here too then are you strong, O influences<br \/>\nThat trouble the earth and air and the strong seas! <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Therefore<br \/>\nI will not stay your gathering wings <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Who<br \/>\nwatch me from the air, you living things,<br \/>\nBut go to find whatever peril or wonder<br \/>\nWait me of life above the earth or under.<br \/>\nStrange will it be if quiet Bagdad yield<br \/>\nMore terror or more sweetness in field<br \/>\nHas stayed me yet or in untravelled flood<br \/>\nOr mountain or the tiger-throated wood.&quot;<br \/>\nSo saying he grasped the strong and shaken mane <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">And<br \/>\nset swift footing on that fiery plain.<br \/>\nAt once the beast as if by sorcery<br \/>\nStrangely compelled, calmed his impetuous eye: <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">His<br \/>\nangry tremor ceased and bounding wrath <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\" class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Following<br \/>\nunbidden in the Arabian&#8217;s path.<br \/>\nBut he with silent toil the sands untried <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Vanquishing<br \/>\nthrough that luminous world and wide<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\" align=\"center\">\n<font size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<br \/>\n Page-264<span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n  <span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" SIZE=\"2\" width=\"100%\">\n  <\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/>\nWent a slow shadow, till his feet untired <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The<br \/>\nfruit of all his labour long acquired. <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Before<br \/>\na mile complete he was aware<br \/>\nOf a strange shape of beauty sitting there<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">On<br \/>\na sole boulder in the level wild,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Maiden,<br \/>\na marvellous bloom, a naked child;<br \/>\nAll like a lily from her leaves escaped<br \/>\nThe golden summer kissed her close and wrapped<br \/>\nIn soft revealing sunshine, &#8211; a sweet bareness,<br \/>\nA creature made of flowers and choicest fairness; <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">And<br \/>\nall her limbs were like a luminous dream,<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">So<br \/>\nwonderfully white they burn and gleam,<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Her<br \/>\nshoulder ivory richly bathed in gold,<br \/>\nHer sides a snowy wonder to behold,<br \/>\nMarble made amorous; her body fair<br \/>\nSeemed one with the divine, translucent air,<br \/>\nA light within the light, a glorious treasure,<br \/>\nA thing to hold, to press, to slay with pleasure.<br \/>\nThe girl was not alone, but with her watched<br \/>\nTwo shapes of beauty and of terror hatched,<br \/>\nA strong, fierce snake, round her sweet middle twined, <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">A<br \/>\ntigress at her lovely feet reclined.<br \/>\nDreaming on those tremendous sands she waited <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">And<br \/>\noften with that splendour miscreated<br \/>\nPlayed thoughtfully; about her wondrous knees <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Binding<br \/>\nthe brilliant death or would increase<br \/>\nThe whiteness of her limbs with its fierce hues<br \/>\nOr twine it in her tresses flowing loose.<br \/>\nBelow that other restless evil played,<br \/>\nThe fierce, sleek terror on the sands outspread.<br \/>\nFirst of the wonderful three rose with a bound <\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\" class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Waking<br \/>\nthe desert from its sleep with sound<br \/>\nThe tigress, but the Arabian strode more near<br \/>\nAs one who had forgotten how to fear<br \/>\nAnd frowning like a god with kingly look<br \/>\nHe threatened the preparing death and shook<br \/>\nHis javelin in the sun.
