\n Who
\nmusest in the silence of the heart,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Eternal
\ngleam,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Thou only Art!<\/p>\n

       Ah, wherefore with this
\ndarkness am I veiled,<\/p>\n

My sunlit part<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

By
\nclouds assailed?  <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

      
\nWhy
\nam I thus disfigured by desire,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Distracted,
\nhaled,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Scorched by the fire   <\/p>\n

        Of fitful passions,
\nfrom thy peace out-thrust<\/p>\n

Into the gyre<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Of
\nevery gust?<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

       
\nBetrayed
\nto grief, o\u2019ertaken with dismay,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Surprised
\nby lust?<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Let
\nnot my grey<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

       
\nBlood-clotted
\npast repel thy sovereign ruth,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Nor
\neven delay,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

O lonely Truth!<\/p>\n

        Nor let the specious
\ngods who ape Thee still<\/p>\n

Deceive my youth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These
\nclamours still;<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

        
\nFor
\nI would hear the eternal voice and know<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\neternal Will.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

This brilliant show<\/p>\n

        Cumbering the threshold
\nof eternity<\/p>\n

Dispel,<\/span>
\n–<\/span> bestow<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nundimmed eye,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

       
\nThe
\nheart grown young and clear. Rebuke, O Lord,<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

These
\nhopes that<\/span> cry<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\nSo deafeningly,<\/p>\n

         Remove my sullied
\ncenturies, restore<\/p>\n

My purity.<\/p>\n

O hidden door<\/p>\n

         Of Knowledge, open!
\nStrength, fulfil thyself!<\/p>\n

Love, outpour!

\nOn the Mountains<\/p>\n

Immense retreats of silence
\nand of gloom,<\/p>\n

         Hills of a sterile
\ngrandeur, rocks that sublime<\/p>\n

In bareness seek the blue sky\u2019s infinite
\nroom<\/p>\n

        With their coeval snows
\nuntouched by Time!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I seek your solemn spaces! Let me at last<\/p>\n

         Forgotten of thought
\nthrough days immemorable<\/p>\n

Voiceless and needless keep your refuge
\nvast,<\/p>\n

         Growing into the peace
\nin which I dwell.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For like that Soul unmade you seem to brood<\/p>\n

         Who sees all things
\nemerge but none creates,<\/p>\n

Watching the ages from His solitude,<\/p>\n

          Lone, unconcerned,
\nremote. You to all Fates<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Offer an unmoved1<\/sup>  heart and therefore abide,<\/p>\n

          Who seek not, act not,
\nstrive not nor rebel.<\/p>\n

\nLike you, who are may grow like Him, as wide,<\/p>\n

\n           Mere, uncreative,
\nimperturbable.<\/p>\n
