A Shadow of Eternity,-<br \/>\n  Vainly I throb in the stars that err through the void without feature,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Scintillant forms in a Nought vast without life, without<br \/>\n  thought.<\/p>\n<p>  O these stars<sup>4<\/sup>&nbsp; that glitter and wander, God has devised them<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Burning nails in my heart, stones of my prisonhouse. God<br \/>\n  Architect griefless relentless and mighty built and raised them,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Clamped with them Time, His road to<sup>5<\/sup>&nbsp; Nothingness,<br \/>\n  Death&#8217;s grim abode.<\/p>\n<p>  Fire of God, I passioned for life and have gathered but ashes &#8211;<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Life so that Death might die. Yea, was it life that He gave<br \/>\n  me?<br \/>\n  Glow of my darkness, reflex and nerve-beat devoured the <sup>6<\/sup> devourer,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Tortured by the flame an obscure will in me kindled to save<br \/>\n  me.<\/p>\n<p>  Life was<sup>7<\/sup> () a sorrowful throb of this Matter teaching it anguish,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Teaching it hope and desire trod out too soon in the mire,<br \/>\n  Life the frail joy that regrets its briefness, life the long sorrow,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Love the close kinsman to hate and its freedom but bedfellows<sup>8<\/sup> of Fate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"border-style: none;border-width: medium;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;padding: 0cm;line-height:150%\" align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"border-style: none;border-width: medium;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;padding: 0cm;line-height:150%\" align=\"left\">\n  <span lang=\"EN-US\">Then<br \/>\n  in my anguish I reached out for knowledge, light on my midnight,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This was the mind I had sought fashioned out of His nought.<br \/>\n  Alphabet hieroglyphs of the reflexes life had engendered,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Spasms of matter caught in a luminous figment of thought.<\/p>\n<p>  Lo, is not God but myself, Death&#8217;s euphemism fictioned immortal,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Nothing eternalised bare, yet as if one who is None,<br \/>\n  Death yet for ever alive, an Inconscient troubled with seemings,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Matter tormented with life, a Void with its forces at strife?<\/p>\n<p>  0 by my thought to escape from myself out of thought into Nothing,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Thus I had hoped to dissolve, rapt in some featureless Bliss,<br \/>\n  Rending the illusion I made to be immutable and formless and timeless,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This dream too now I leave, long not even to cease.<\/p>\n<p>  Into numb discontent I have lapsed of a universe barren,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Goalless, condemned to survive, a spiral of matter in pain,<br \/>\n  Now have I known myself as thy boundless finite, thy darkness without end<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Shadowily self-lit, grown content to strive and in vain.<\/p>\n<p>  Fire that travellest from immortality, spark of the Timeless,<br \/>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
