 <\/p>\n

\nI. <\/b>The eight essays of THE <\/font>SUPRAMENTAL
\n<\/font>MANIFESTATION<\/font>, the last of Sri Aurobindo’s prose
\nwritings, first appeared in the quarterly Bulletin of Physical Education <\/i>
\nin 1949-50. They were reprinted in book form by the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Press
\nin 1952 under the title The Supramental Manifestation upon Earth<\/i>. Sri
\nAurobindo Library, New York, published them in 1953 under the caption The
\nMind of Light. <\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nII. <\/b>The essays constituting THE <\/font>PROBLEM
\nOF <\/font>REBIRTH <\/font>first appeared serially in the Arya
\n<\/i>between 1915 and 1920. The first section, "Rebirth and Karma", consists of a
\nnumber of independent articles which nevertheless make up a developing series.
\nThe third section, "Higher Lines of Karma", remained incomplete but minor
\nrevisions were made in it by Sri Aurobindo. All these articles were issued in
\nbook form in 1952 and reprinted in 1969 with a letter by Sri Aurobindo appended
\nto explain why he had not permitted their publication. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nIII & IV. <\/b>The essays in these two sections, (except "Ourselves") appeared
\noriginally in the Arya. They were revised and published in three books.
\nEvolution<\/i>, The Superman <\/i>and Ideals and Progress <\/i>and they have
\nbeen reissued a numb-r of times. The two essays, "Evolution and . Involution"
\nand "The Ascending Unity", -first included in The Problem of Rebirth<\/i>,
\nhave been shifted to section III of the present volume. "Ourselves", given as a
\nmessage to The Standard-Bearer <\/i>in 1920, is being included here for the
\nfirst time. <\/p>\n

\nV. <\/b>HERACLITUS <\/font>appeared serially in the Arya <\/i>
\nin 1916-17. It was subsequently revised and published in book form in 1941 and
\nreprinted in 1947 and 1969. <\/p>\n

\nVI. <\/b>THOUGHTS AND <\/font>GLIMPSES <\/font>
\nappeared in the Arya <\/i>in 1915-1917. It was issued in book form in 1941 and
\nreprinted in 1947, 1968 and 1970. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nVII. <\/b>In the Arya<\/i>, under the title QUESTION OF THE
\n<\/font>MONTH<\/font>, appeared five questions and answers between
\n1914-1915. Except for the fourth \u2014 "Animal Souls, Subtle Bodies" \u2014 they were
\nincluded in the book Views and Reviews <\/i>published in 1941 and reprinted in
\n1946 and 1954. <\/p>\n

\nVIII. <\/b>THE YOGA AND <\/font>ITS <\/font>OBJECTS
\n<\/font>first appeared in 1921 and has since been issued ten times between 1921
