Many of the letters appeared<br \/>\n\t\t\t earlier in <i>Sri Aurobindo on Himself and on the Mother <\/i>(1953)<br \/>\n\t\t\t and <i>On Himself: Compiled from Notes and Letters<br \/>\n<\/i>(1972).<br \/>\n\t\t\t These previously published letters, along with many others,<br \/>\n\t\t\t appear here under the new title<br \/>\n<i>Letters on Himself and the<\/i> <\/p>\n<p><i>Ashram<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;text-indent:25pt\">The letters included in the present volume have been selected<br \/>\n\t\t\t from Sri Aurobindo&#8217;s extensive correspondence with members<br \/>\n\t\t\t of the Ashram and outside disciples between November 1926<br \/>\n\t\t\t and November 1950. Letters he wrote before November 1926<br \/>\n\t\t\t are published in <i>Autobiographical Notes and Other Writings<\/i> <\/p>\n<p><i>of Historical Interest<\/i>, volume 36 of T<font size=\"2\">HE<\/font> C<font size=\"2\">OMPLETE<\/font> W<font size=\"2\">ORKS<br \/>\n\t\t\t OF<\/font> S<font size=\"2\">RI <\/font>A<font size=\"2\">UROBINDO<\/font>. That volume also contains remarks by Sri<br \/>\n\t\t\t Aurobindo on his life and works that were written as corrections<br \/>\n\t\t\t of statements made by biographers and others, public messages<br \/>\n\t\t\t on world events, letters to public figures, and public statements<br \/>\n\t\t\t on his ashram and path of yoga. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;text-indent:25pt\">The letters on the sadhana of members of the Ashram selected for publication in Part Four of the present volume differ<br \/>\n\t\t\t from those published in <i>Letters on Yoga<\/i>, volumes 28 \u00ad 31 of<br \/>\n\t\t\t T<font size=\"2\">HE<\/font> C<font size=\"2\">OMPLETE<\/font> W<font size=\"2\">ORKS<\/font>, in that they are framed historically by<br \/>\n\t\t\t events and conditions in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram between<br \/>\n\t\t\t 1926 and 1950. The dates and the questions of Sri Aurobindo&#8217;s<br \/>\n\t\t\t correspondents that accompany many of the letters in the present<br \/>\n\t\t\t volume make the historical context clear. The letters included in <\/p>\n<p><i>Letters on Yoga <\/i>were also written to Ashramites and outside<br \/>\n\t\t\t disciples during the 1926 \u00ad 1950 period, but they deal with Sri<br \/>\n\t\t\t Aurobindo&#8217;s yoga in a more general way, and thus are less in need<br \/>\n\t\t\t of the contextualisation provided by the questions and dates.<br \/>\n &nbsp; <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;text-indent:25pt\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;text-indent:25pt\">\n\t\t\tThe letters in the present volume have been arranged by the editors<br \/>\n\t\t\tin five parts, the last of which includes mantras and messages.
