This volume consists of (1) notes in which Sri Aurobindo corrected statements made by biographers and other writers about his life and (2) various sorts of material written by him that are
\nof historical importance. The historical material includes personal letters written before 1927 (as well as a few written after
\nthat date), public statements and letters on national and world events, and public statements about his ashram and system of
\nyoga. Many of these writings appeared earlier in Sri Aurobindo<\/i> on Himself and on the Mother
\n<\/i>(1953) and On Himself: Compiled from Notes and Letters <\/i>(1972). These previously published writings, along with many others, appear here under the new
\ntitle Autobiographical Notes and Other Writings of Historical<\/i> Interest<\/i>. <\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSri Aurobindo alluded to his life and works not only in the notes included in this volume but also in some of the letters he
\nwrote to disciples between 1927 and 1950. Such letters have been included in
\nLetters on Himself and the Ashram<\/i>, volume 35
\nof THE<\/font> COMPLETE<\/font> WORKS OF<\/font> SRI<\/font> AUROBINDO<\/font>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe autobiographical notes, letters and other writings included in the present volume have been arranged by the editors in four parts. The texts of the constituent materials have been
\nchecked against all relevant manuscripts and printed texts.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Note on the Texts at the end contains information on
\nthe people and historical events referred to in the texts.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOn account of the documentary nature of the items making
\nup this book, they have been transcribed verbatim, or as close to verbatim as possible. Problems of transcription are discussed
