\nBIBLIOGRAPHICAL NOTE<\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nHYMNS TO THE
\n<\/span>MYSTIC <\/span>FIRE<\/span>, containing translations of hymns to Agni
\nfrom Mandalas 1, 2 and 6 of the Rig-veda, was first published in 1946 with
\na Foreword by Sri Aurobindo.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nAn enlarged edition of HYMNS TO THE
\n<\/span>MYSTIC <\/span>FIRE
\n<\/span>was issued in 1952
\nand contained the following additional material:<\/font> <\/p>\n

\n1) Revised translations of the "Hymns of the Atris" which had
\nappeared originally in the Arya<\/i> and subsequently had been published in ON THE
\n<\/span>VEDA<\/span>.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n2) Translations of other hymns to Agni which had hitherto remained
\nunpublished. A few of these had been found in Sri Aurobindo’s
\nearlier manuscripts and included as they had stood.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nBarring some forty hymns not translated, all the remaining Agni-Hymns
\nof the Rig-veda were presented in this volume.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nFor the purposes of the Sri Aurobindo Birth Centenary Edition the
\n1952 enlarged edition has been used as "Copy". However, the entire text
\nhas been rechecked and several corrections are made. A few hymns to
\nAgni and the article, "The Doctrine of the Mystics", have been shifted from ON THE
\n<\/span>VEDA <\/span>to this volume. In the first two editions of HYMNS TO THE
\n<\/span>MYSTIC <\/span>FIRE
\n<\/span>this article was only partly reproduced.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nCertain notes and studies found among Sri Aurobindo’s manuscripts
\ndealing with the hymns to Agni and with "Word-formation" from his
\nmaterial for a full philological reconstruction of the old Aryabhasha, have
