\nEarth’s pleasures come like scented winds,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nInvite a mortal clasp:<\/span><\/p>\n

\nI seek to keep them in my clutch,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nCaptives of a vain grasp!<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHow shall thy nectar fill this cup,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBrimming with passion’s wine?<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOnly when the turn of day is done<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThy starry lamps can shine.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nEver to the eager cry of hope<\/span><\/p>\n

\nRe-echoes the heart’s lyre,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWill it answer to thy Song of songs<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThat climbs beyond desire?<\/span><\/p>\n

\nArise now in my shadowy soul<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd let it sing farewell<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTo the near glow, the intimate voice,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFamiliar conch and bell!<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFor little lights I crave no more,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nNow shall I silently<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTurn toward my heaven and greater home:<\/span><\/p>\n
