\n\t\t\tThe Kingdoms of the Greater Knowledge<\/font><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nA<\/font>FTER<\/b> a measureless moment of the soul<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAgain returning to these surface fields<\/p>\n

Out of the timeless depths where he had sunk,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe heard once more the slow tread of the hours.<\/p>\n

All once perceived and lived was far away;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHimself was to himself his only scene.<\/p>\n

Above the Witness and his universe<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe stood in a realm of boundless silences<\/p>\n

Awaiting the Voice that spoke and built the worlds.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA light was round him wide and absolute,<\/p>\n

A diamond purity of eternal sight;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA consciousness lay still, devoid of forms,<\/p>\n

Free, wordless, uncoerced by sign or rule,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFor ever content with only being and bliss;<\/p>\n

A sheer existence lived in its own peace<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOn the single spirit’s bare and infinite ground.<\/p>\n

Out of the sphere of Mind he had arisen,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe had left the reign of Nature’s hues and shades;<\/p>\n

He dwelt in his self’s colourless purity.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt was a plane of undetermined spirit<\/p>\n

That could be a zero or round sum of things,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA state in which all ceased and all began.<\/p>\n

All it became that figures the absolute,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA high vast peak whence Spirit could see the worlds,<\/p>\n

Calm’s wide epiphany, wisdom’s mute home,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA lonely station of Omniscience,<\/p>\n

A diving-board of the Eternal’s power,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA white floor in the house of All-Delight.<\/p>\n

Here came the thought that passes beyond Thought,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHere the still Voice which our listening cannot hear,<\/p>\n

The Knowledge by which the knower is the known,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t <\/p>\n

\n

The Love in which beloved and lover are one.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAll stood in an original plenitude,<\/p>\n

Hushed and fulfilled before they could create<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe glorious dream of their universal acts;<\/p>\n

Here was engendered the spiritual birth,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHere closed the finite’s crawl to the Infinite.<\/p>\n

A thousand roads leaped into Eternity<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOr singing ran to meet God’s veilless face.<\/p>\n

The Known released him from its limiting chain;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe knocked at the doors of the Unknowable.<\/p>\n

Thence gazing with an immeasurable outlook<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOne with self’s inlook into its own pure vasts,<\/p>\n

He saw the splendour of the spirit’s realms,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe greatness and wonder of its boundless works,<\/p>\n

The power and passion leaping from its calm,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe rapture of its movement and its rest,<\/p>\n

And its fire-sweet miracle of transcendent life,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe million-pointing undivided grasp<\/p>\n

Of its vision of one same stupendous All,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIts inexhaustible acts in a timeless Time,<\/p>\n

A space that is its own infinity.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA glorious multiple of one radiant Self,<\/p>\n

Answering to joy with joy, to love with love,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAll there were moving mansions of God-bliss;<\/p>\n

Eternal and unique they lived the One.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThere forces are great outbursts of God’s truth<\/p>\n

And objects are its pure spiritual shapes;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSpirit no more is hid from its own view,<\/p>\n

All sentience is a sea of happiness<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd all creation is an act of light.<\/p>\n

Out of the neutral silence of his soul<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe passed to its fields of puissance and of calm<\/p>\n

And saw the Powers that stand above the world,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTraversed the realms of the supreme Idea<\/p>\n

And sought the summit of created things<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd the almighty source of cosmic change.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t <\/p>\n

\n

\n\t\t\tThere Knowledge called him to her mystic peaks<\/p>\n

Where thought is held in a vast internal sense<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd feeling swims across a sea of peace<\/p>\n

And vision climbs beyond the reach of Time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAn equal of the first creator seers,<\/p>\n

Accompanied by an all-revealing light<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe moved through regions of transcendent Truth<\/p>\n

Inward, immense, innumerably one.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThere distance was his own huge spirit’s extent;<\/p>\n

Delivered from the fictions of the mind<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTime’s triple dividing step baffled no more;<\/p>\n

Its inevitable and continuous stream,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe long flow of its manifesting course,<\/p>\n

Was held in spirit’s single wide regard.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA universal beauty showed its face:<\/p>\n

The invisible deep-fraught significances,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHere sheltered behind form’s insensible screen,<\/p>\n

Uncovered to him their deathless harmony<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd the key to the wonder-book of common things.<\/p>\n

In their uniting law stood up revealed<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe multiple measures of the upbuilding force,<\/p>\n

The lines of the World-Geometer’s technique,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe enchantments that uphold the cosmic web<\/p>\n

And the magic underlying simple shapes.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOn peaks where Silence listens with still heart<\/p>\n

To the rhythmic metres of the rolling worlds,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe served the sessions of the triple Fire.<\/p>\n

On the rim of two continents of slumber and trance<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe heard the ever unspoken Reality’s voice<\/p>\n

Awaken revelation’s mystic cry,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe birthplace found of the sudden infallible Word<\/p>\n

And lived in the rays of an intuitive Sun.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAbsolved from the ligaments of death and sleep<\/p>\n

He rode the lightning seas of cosmic Mind<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd crossed the ocean of original sound;<\/p>\n

On the last step to the supernal birth<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t <\/p>\n

He trod along extinction’s narrow edge<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tNear the high verges of eternity,<\/p>\n

And mounted the gold ridge of the world-dream<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBetween the slayer and the saviour fires;<\/p>\n

The belt he reached of the unchanging Truth,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMet borders of the inexpressible Light<\/p>\n

And thrilled with the presence of the Ineffable.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAbove him he saw the flaming Hierarchies,<\/p>\n

The wings that fold around created Space,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe sun-eyed Guardians and the golden Sphinx<\/p>\n

And the tiered planes and the immutable Lords.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA wisdom waiting on Omniscience<\/p>\n

Sat voiceless in a vast passivity;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt judged not, measured not, nor strove to know,<\/p>\n

But listened for the veiled all-seeing Thought<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd the burden of a calm transcendent Voice.<\/p>\n

He had reached the top of all that can be known:<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis sight surpassed creation’s head and base;<\/p>\n

Ablaze the triple heavens revealed their suns,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe obscure Abyss exposed its monstrous rule.<\/p>\n

All but the ultimate Mystery was his field,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAlmost the Unknowable disclosed its rim.<\/p>\n

His self’s infinities began to emerge,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe hidden universes cried to him;<\/p>\n

Eternities called to eternities<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSending their speechless message still remote.<\/p>\n

Arisen from the marvel of the depths<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd burning from the superconscious heights<\/p>\n

And sweeping in great horizontal gyres<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA million energies joined and were the One.<\/p>\n

All flowed immeasurably to one sea:<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAll living forms became its atom homes.<\/p>\n

A Panergy that harmonised all life<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHeld now existence in its vast control;<\/p>\n

A portion of that majesty he was made.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAt will he lived in the unoblivious Ray.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t <\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn that high realm where no untruth can come,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhere all are different and all is one,<\/p>\n

In the Impersonal’s ocean without shore<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Person in the World-Spirit anchored rode;<\/p>\n

It thrilled with the mighty marchings of World-Force,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIts acts were the comrades of God’s infinite peace.<\/p>\n

An adjunct glory and a symbol self,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe body was delivered to the soul, \u2014<\/p>\n

An immortal point of power, a block of poise<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn a cosmicity’s wide formless surge,<\/p>\n

A conscious edge of the Transcendent’s might<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCarving perfection from a bright world-stuff,<\/p>\n

It figured in it a universe’s sense.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThere consciousness was a close and single weft;<\/p>\n

The far and near were one in spirit-space,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe moments there were pregnant with all time.<\/p>\n

The superconscient’s screen was ripped by thought,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIdea rotated symphonies of sight,<\/p>\n

Sight was a flame-throw from identity;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLife was a marvellous journey of the spirit,<\/p>\n

Feeling a wave from the universal Bliss.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn the kingdom of the Spirit’s power and light,<\/p>\n

As if one who arrived out of infinity’s womb<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe came new-born, infant and limitless<\/p>\n

And grew in the wisdom of the timeless Child;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe was a vast that soon became a Sun.<\/p>\n

A great luminous silence whispered to his heart;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis knowledge an inview caught unfathomable,<\/p>\n

An outview by no brief horizons cut:<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe thought and felt in all, his gaze had power.<\/p>\n

He communed with the Incommunicable;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBeings of a wider consciousness were his friends,<\/p>\n

Forms of a larger subtler make drew near;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Gods conversed with him behind Life’s veil.<\/p>\n

Neighbour his being grew to Nature’s crests.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe primal Energy took him in its arms;<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t <\/p>\n

His brain was wrapped in overwhelming light,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAn all-embracing knowledge seized his heart:<\/p>\n

Thoughts rose in him no earthly mind can hold,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMights played that never coursed through mortal nerves:<\/p>\n

He scanned the secrets of the Overmind,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe bore the rapture of the Oversoul.<\/p>\n

A borderer of the empire of the Sun,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAttuned to the supernal harmonies,<\/p>\n

He linked creation to the Eternal’s sphere.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis finite parts approached their absolutes,<\/p>\n

His actions framed the movements of the Gods,<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis will took up the reins of cosmic Force.<\/p>\n
