\nThree Sonnets<\/font><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n

\nMan the Enigma<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA deep enigma is the soul of man.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis conscious life obeys the Inconscient’s rule,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis need of joy is learned in sorrow’s school,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHis heart is a chaos and an empyrean.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis subtle Ignorance borrows Wisdom’s plan;<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis mind is the Infinite’s sharp and narrow tool.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHe wades through mud to reach the Wonderful,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd does what Matter must or Spirit can.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAll powers in his living’s soil take root<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd claim from him their place and struggling right:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis ignorant creature mind crawling towards light<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIs Nature’s fool and Godhead’s candidate,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA demigod and a demon and a brute,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe slave and the creator of his fate.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe Infinitesimal Infinite<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nOut of a still immensity we came.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThese million universes were to it<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe poor light-bubbles of a trivial game,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA fragile glimmer in the Infinite.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nIt could not find its soul in all that Vast:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt drew itself into a little speck<\/span><\/p>\n

\nInfinitesimal, ignobly cast<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOut of earth’s mud and slime strangely awake,  \u2014
\n\t\t\t<\/span> <\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nA tiny plasm upon a casual globe<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn the small system of a dwarflike sun,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA little life wearing the flesh for robe,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA little mind winged through wide space to run.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nIt lived, it knew, it saw its self sublime,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tDeathless, outmeasuring Space, outlasting Time.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe Cosmic Dance<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t(Dance of Krishna, Dance of Kali<\/i>)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nTwo measures are there of the cosmic dance.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAlways we hear the tread of Kali’s feet<\/span><\/p>\n

\nMeasuring in rhythms of pain and grief and chance<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLife’s game of hazard terrible and sweet.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nThe ordeal of the veiled Initiate,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe hero soul at play with Death’s embrace,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWrestler in the dread gymnasium of Fate<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd sacrifice a lonely path to Grace,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nMan’s sorrows made a key to the Mysteries,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTruth’s narrow road out of Time’s wastes of dream,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe soul’s seven doors from Matter’s tomb to rise,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAre the common motives of her tragic theme.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nBut when shall Krishna’s dance through Nature move,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHis mask of sweetness, laughter, rapture, love?<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t <\/p>\n
