\nOf Spring is her name for whose bud and blooming<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWe praise today the Giver,  \u2014 <\/span> <\/p>\n

\nOf Spring and its sweetness clings about her<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFor her face is Spring and Spring’s without her,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAs loth to leave her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSee, it is summer; the brilliant sunlight<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tLies hard on stream and plain,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd all things wither with heats diurnal;<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut she! how vanished things and vernal<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIn her remain.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd almost indeed we repine and marvel<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTo watch her bloom and grow;<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFor half we had thought our sweet bud could never<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBloom out, but must surely remain for ever<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe child we know.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBut now though summer must come and autumn<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSince the sharp autumn days when with increase<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOf rosy-lighted cheeks attained the ground<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWeary of waiting and by wasps hung round<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe bough’s fair hangings and Thea fell with these,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMy mother, with twelve matron summers crowned.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFour times since then the visits of green spring<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHave blessed the hillsides with fresh blossoming<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd four times has the winter chilled the brooks,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSince sole I dwell with my rude father cheered<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBy no low-worded speech or sunny looks.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tYet are we rich enough, fruitful our herd<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd yields us brimming pails, and store we still<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tNumberless baskets with white cheese and fill<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWhereof bright plenty now our caverns hold<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAnd ornaments of utter exquisiteness.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut if these brilliants of their pleasure fail,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe lily blooms from vale to scented vale<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd crocus lifts in Spring its golden fire.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOur midnight hears the warbling nightingale,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe cuckoo calls as he would never tire;<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAlong our hills we pluck the purple grapes,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd in the night a million stars arise<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTo watch us with their ancient friendly eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nSuch flowering ease I have and earth’s sweet shapes,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd riches, and the green and hived springs.<\/span><\/p>\n
