\nIt is not possible to leave out any part of the being; all of it
\nhas to be transformed. A particular movement of Nature,
\nmay be given up but the parts of the being are permanent. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n *   * <\/font><\/p>\n

\nIn course of sadhana there comes a state when it seems as
\nif there were two distinct beings. One remains occupied with
\nthe inner things, pure and tranquil it lives in the vision and
\nexperience of the divine truth or is identified with it; the
\nother is busy with the outer details. Then a divine unity is
\n‘ established between the two\u2014the higher and inner world
\nand the external world become one. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nOnly the front is awake in ordinary people, but this frontal
\nawakened consciousness is not really awake but ignorant,
\nfull of obscurity. Behind it stretches the field of the inner
\nbeing which in appearance seems to be asleep. But when this
\nenvelope is removed, the consciousness behind is seen
\nuncovered and it is there that the light, force and peace first
\ndescend. This inner being can easily accomplish what is not
\npossible to the external awakened consciousness. By opening
\nitself to the Divine and the universal consciousness, it can <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/i>become the vast free consciousness. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nIf these attacks cannot enter or if, when they do, they do
\nnot last, it has to be understood that the outer being has
\nbecome conscious, and there has been a great progress in its
\npurification. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nWhen the tamasic state, rising from the subconscient,
\nattacks the body, one feels as if one were ill. Call the
\nMother’s force from above into your body, all this will go
\naway. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nTo get rid of the subconscient difficulties, first one has to
\nrecognise them, next reject them, and finally bring the inner
\nor the higher light of the Mother into the body conscious-
\nness. Then the ignorant movements of the subconscient will be driven away and
\nthe movements of the other consciousness will be established. But this cannot be done easily; you
\nlave to do it patiently; a determined patience is required.
\nTrust in the Mother is the only means. However, if one can remain inside and
\nmaintain the inner vision and consciousness, there is not much suffering and labour\u2014but it is not
\nalways possible to do this and it is then that faith and
\naatience are particularly necessary. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nWhen the physical consciousness becomes strong, it covers
\nup everything and tries to spread all over the being, this state
\nis produced because when the physical consciousness in its
\ndistinct nature expresses itself, everything seems to be full of
\ninertia and obscurity, void of the light of knowledge and the
\ndrive of force. Do not give your assent to this condition\u2014if
\nit comes, call the Mother’s light and force to enter into the
\nbody-consciousness and make it luminous and powerful. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*  *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThe physical centre is situated at the end of the vertebral
\ncolumn, in what is called the muladhar; it does not often
\nreveal its position but its presence can be felt.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   * <\/font><\/p>\n

\nThis is the vital purusha who has his seat in the emotional
\nvital. There are three layers of the vital purusha\u2014in the
\nheart, in the navel and below the navel. In the heart he is the motional being; in the navel the being 
\nof desire and below
\nit the sensational being, in other words, busy with the pull of
\nthe senses and the small instincts of life. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nOnly the Self is so vast and limitless, etc. When the mind,¦
\nvital and physical consciousness are fully open, they also 
\nbecome like that\u2014the external mind, life and body are only
\ninstruments for the play and transaction with external
\nnature. When the external mind, vital and body become full <\/font><\/p>\n

\nof light and consciousness they then no longer seem to be
\nnarrow and limited. They also become one with the inner. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThere are many movements of mind which have no
\ncoherence; this is as true of a sadhak as of an ordinary
\nperson, this happens to all. But the sadhak observes and is
\naware of them, whereas an ordinary person does not know
\nwhat is happening within himself. By constantly turning
\neverything to the Divine the mind becomes unified. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThere are three layers of the ordinary mind. The layer of
\nthought or intellectual the layer of will-power (will directed by the intellect)
\nand the’ going to intelligence. There are also
\nthree layers above the mind\u2014higher mind, illumined mind,
\nand intuitive mind. Since you see them inside the head, they
\nmust be those three layers of the ordinary mind open to what
\nis above it and in each one a special divine force is coming
\ndown to work. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n* <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   * <\/font><\/p>\n

\nWhen this vast condition prevails in the head, it means the
\nmind is widening to become one with the universal mind.
\nThe throat etc. becoming vast indicates that the conscious-
\nness in those respective centres is also beginning to widen. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*  *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nTo live in the higher mind is not so difficult\u2014it begins
\nwhen the consciousness rises a little above the head. But the
\nascent to the Overmind takes a long time, one cannot do it
\nunless one is a very great sadhak. If one can live in these
\nplanes, the ‘limitations of the mind are broken down, the
\nconsciousness becomes vast, the petty ego-sense decreases,
\neverything is one, all is in the Divine, etc.\u2014then the divine
\nor spiritual knowledge comes easily. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThe sadhana is done according to the needs of the time.
\nFormerly, it was the inward sadhana, the stage of simple
\nmeditation. Now it is necessary to unite the inner and the
\nouter\u2014down to the body-consciousness. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThere are many kinds of knowledge depending on the
\nconsciousness. The knowledge of the higher consciousness is
\ntrue and spotless\u2014the knowledge of the lower conscious-
\nness is a mixture of knowledge and ignorance and is stained.
\nThe knowledge of the intellect is of one particular nature,
\nthe knowledge of the Supramental Consciousness is of a
\ndifferent nature, beyond the intellect. The peaceful knowledge belongs to the higher consciousness. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThis is the staircase of the higher consciousness\u2014there
\nare many levels of this consciousness. One mounts by these <\/font><\/p>\n

\nstairs from plane to plane till one reaches the Supermind\u2014
\nthe boundless, luminous and blissful infinity of God. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nThe world above is the plane of the higher consciousness
\nand it is descending by our sadhana. The material world at
\npresent is full of a violent dance of the hostile vital world and heading
\ntowards destruction. ? <\/font><\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*   * <\/font><\/p>\n

\nThe psychic being is a portion of the Divine; it has a
\nnatural attraction for the truth and the Divine but that
\nattraction is desireless, free from demands and lower cravings. The psychic emotion is pure and stainless. The emotional vital is a part of it and has much desire, demand, pride
\nand indignation, etc. It wants the Divine in order to satisfy its
\npride and desire but the psychic touch can make it pure and
\nimmaculate. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/p>\n

\n*   *<\/p>\n

\nThe psychic being remains behind the mind, vital and
\nbody, in contact with them. Beyond the mind is the spiritual
\nbeing and the higher consciousness. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThe place of the psychic being is behind and all the centres
\nare situated behind; for instance, the heart centre, the vital <\/font><\/p>\n

\ncentres, the physical centre are connected there with the
\nvertebral column and have their base there. That is why the
\ncondition of the consciousness behind is very important. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nAll depends on the predominance of the psychic\u2014the
\nexternal nature is busy satisfying its little ego, desires and
\ncravings; the mental being is occupied with the self, but the
\npetty ego derives little pleasure from that, it longs for
\npettiness. The psychic being is occupied with the Divine, it
\nalone can do the surrender\u2014only the psychic being can
\ncontrol the external nature. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nEither the psychic being must become the director (ruler,
\ndriver and guide) and open the intellect, mind, vital and
\nphysical consciousness or the higher consciousness must
\ndescend right into the physical consciousness and occupy the
\nentire vessel, then a solid foundation will be established in
\n‘ the material consciousness. <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nIt is the consciousness of the psychic and the heart that has
\nopened\u2014what comes from above is the light and peace of
\nthe higher mind and the Divine Consciousness. What looks
\nlike the moon rising is the current of spiritual aspiration
\nflowing from the psychic. . <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\n*<\/font><\/p>\n

\n*    *<\/font><\/p>\n

\nThat is what is wanted\u2014to open the lotus in the heart, to
\nbring the whole nature under the control of the psychic
\nbeing, this will bring about the New Birth. <\/font><\/p>\n
