A lustre
\nof some rapturous Infinite,<\/p>\n

\nin the splendour of its golden laugh<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Regions
\nof the heart's happiness set free,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

\nIntoxicated with the wine of God,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Immersed
\nin light, perpetually divine.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

A
\nfavourite and intimate of the Gods<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

\nObeying the, divine command to joy,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

It was
\nthe sovereign of its own delight<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nmaster of the kingdoms of its force.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Assured
\nof the bliss for which all forms were made,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Unmoved
\nby fear and grief and the shocks of Fate<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nunalarmed by the breath of fleeting Time<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nunbesieged by adverse circumstance,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

It
\nbreathed in a sweet secure unguarded ease<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Free
\nfrom our body's frailty inviting death,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Far from
\nour danger zone of stumbling Will.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

It
\nneeded not to curb its passionate beats; <\/font><\/p>\n

\n

\n
\nThrilled by the clasp of the warm satisfied sense <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAnd the swift wonder-rush and flame and cry <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nOf the life-impulse's red magnificent race, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nIt lived in a jewel-rhythm of the laughter of God <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd lay on the breast of universal love. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nImmune the unfettered Spirit of Delight <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nPastured his gleaming sun-herds and moon-flocks <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAlong the lyric speed of griefless streams <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nIn fragrance of the unearthly asphodel. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nA silence of felicity wrapped the heavens, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nTraveller on plateau and on musing ridge, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAs one who sees in the World-Magician's glass <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nA miracled imagery of soul-scapes flee <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nHe traversed scenes of an immortal joy <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd gazed into abysms of beauty and bliss. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAround him was a light of conscious suns <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd a brooding gladness of great symbol things; <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nTo meet him crowded plains of brilliant calm,<\/P><\/p>\n

\nMountains and violet valleys of the Blest,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Deep
\nglens of joy and crooning waterfalls<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nwoods of quivering purple solitude; <\/font><\/p>\n

\n

\n
\nBelow him lay like gleaming jewelled thoughts<\/P><\/p>\n

Rapt
\ndreaming cities of Gandharva kings.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Across
\nthe vibrant secrecies of Space<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

A dim
\nand happy music sweetly stole,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Smitten
\nby unseen hands he heard heart-close<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

The
\nharp's cry of the heavenly minstrels pass,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nvoices of unearthly melody<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Chanted
\nthe glory of eternal love<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

In the
\nwhite-blue moonbeam air of Paradise.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

A summit
\nand core of all that marvellous world,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Apart
\nstood high Elysian nameless hills,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Burning
\nlike sunsets in a trance of eve.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

As if to
\nsome new unsearched profundity,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Into a
\njoyful stillness plunged their base; <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n

\n
\nTheir slopes through a hurry of laughter and voices sank,<\/P><\/p>\n

Crossed
\nby a throng of singing rivulets,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Adoring
\nblue heaven with their happy hymn,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Down
\ninto woods of shadowy secrecy: <\/font><\/p>\n

\n

\n
\nLifted into wide voiceless mystery <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nTheir peaks climbed towards a greatness beyond life. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nThe shining Edens of the vital gods <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nReceived him in their deathless harmonies. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAll things were perfect there that flower in Time; <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nBeauty was there creation's native mould, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nDesire climbed up, a swift omnipotent flame,<\/P><\/p>\n

\nPleasure had the stature of the gods; <\/font><\/p>\n

\nDream walked along the highway of the stars; <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nSweet common things turned into miracles: <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nOvertaken by the spirit's sudden spell, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nSmitten by a divine passion's alchemy, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nPain's self compelled transformed to potent joy <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nCuring the antithesis between heaven and hell. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAll life's high visions are embodied there, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nHer wandering hopes achieved, her aureate combs <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nCaught by the honey-eater's darting tongue, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nHer burning guesses changed to ecstasied truths, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nHer mighty pantings stilled in deathless calm <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAnd liberated her immense desires. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nIn that Paradise of perfect heart, and sense <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nNo lower note could break the endless charm <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nOf her sweetness ardent and immaculate; <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nHer steps are sure of their intuitive fall. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAfter the anguish of the soul's long strife <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAt length were found calm and celestial rest <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAnd, lapped in a magic flood of sorrowless hours., <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nHealed were his warrior nature's wounded limbs <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nIn the encircling arms of Energies <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nThat brooked no stain and feared not their own bliss. <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nIn scenes forbidden to our pallid sense <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAmid miraculous scents and wonder-hues <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nHe met the forms that divinise the sight, <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nTo music that can immortalise the mind <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nAnd make the heart wide as infinity <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nListened, and captured the inaudible <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nCadences that awake the occult ear: <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n
\nOut of the ineffable hush it hears them come<\/P><\/p>\n

\nTrembling with the beauty of a wordless speech,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nthoughts too great and deep to find a voice,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Thoughts
\nwhose desire new-makes the universe.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

A scale
\nof sense that climbed with fiery feet<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

To
\nheights of unimagined happiness,\n<\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

His body

\nearth, dowered with celestial competence,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

\nHarboured a power that needed now no more<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

To cross
\nthe closed customs-line of mind and flesh<\/p>\n

\nsmuggle godhead into humanity.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

It
\nshrank no more from the supreme demand<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Of an
\nuntired capacity for bliss,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

A might
\nthat could explore its own infinite<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nbeauty and passion and the depth's reply<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Nor
\nfeared the swoon of glad identity<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Where
\nspirit and flesh in inner ecstasy join<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

\nAnnulling the quarrel between self and shape.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

It drew
\nfrom sight and sound spiritual power,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Made
\nsense a road to reach the intangible: <\/font><\/p>\n

\n

\n
\nIt thrilled with the supernal influences<\/P><\/p>\n

That
\nbuild the substance of life's deeper soul.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

\nEarth-nature stood reborn, comrade of heaven.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

A fit
\ncompanion of the timeless Kings,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Equalled
\nwith the godheads of the living Suns,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

He mixed
\nin the radiant pastimes of the Unborn,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Heard
\nwhispers of the Player never seen<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nlistened to his voice that steals the heart<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\ndraws it to the breast of God's desire,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And felt
\nits honey of felicity<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Flow
\nthrough his veins like the rivers of Paradise,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

Made
\nbody a nectar-cup of the Absolute.<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

In
\nsudden moments of revealing flame,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

In
\npassionate responses half-unveiled<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

He
\nreached the rim of ecstasies unknown; <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\n

\n
\nA touch supreme surprised his hurrying heart,<\/P><\/p>\n

The
\nclasp was remembered of the Wonderful,<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And
\nhints leaped down of white beatitudes.<\/p>\n

Eternity
\ndrew close disguised as Love<\/p>\n

<\/P><\/p>\n

And laid
\nits hand upon the body of Time.<\/p>\n

A little
\ngift comes from the Immensitudes,<\/p>\n

\nmeasureless to life its gain of joy; <\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\nAll the untold Beyond is mirrored there.<\/P><\/p>\n

A giant
\ndrop of the Bliss unknowable\n<\/p>\n
