A<\/font> ROUND<\/font><\/b><\/span> him shone a great felicitous Day.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA lustre of some rapturous Infinite,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt held in the splendour of its golden laugh<\/span><\/p>\n

\nRegions of the heart’s happiness set free,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIntoxicated with the wine of God,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nImmersed in light, perpetually divine.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA favourite and intimate of the Gods<\/span><\/p>\n

\nObeying the divine command to joy,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt was the sovereign of its own delight<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd master of the kingdoms of its force.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAssured of the bliss for which all forms were made,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nUnmoved by fear and grief and the shocks of Fate<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd unalarmed by the breath of fleeting Time<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd unbesieged by adverse circumstance,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt breathed in a sweet secure unguarded ease<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFree from our body’s frailty inviting death,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFar from our danger zone of stumbling Will.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt needed not to curb its passionate beats,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThrilled by the clasp of the warm satisfied sense<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd the swift wonder-rush and flame and cry<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOf the life-impulse’s red magnificent race,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt lived in a jewel-rhythm of the laughter of God<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd lay on the breast of universal love.<\/span><\/p>\n

Immune the unfettered Spirit of Delight<\/span><\/p>\n

\nPastured his gleaming sun-herds and moon-flocks<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn fragrance of the unearthly asphodel.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA silence of felicity wrapped the heavens,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA ceaseless radiance smiled upon the heights;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

A murmur of inarticulate ravishment<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTrembled in the winds and touched the enchanted soil;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Incessant in the arms of ecstasy<\/span><\/p>\n

\nRepeating its sweet involuntary note<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA sob of rapture flowed along the hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAdvancing under an arch of glory and peace,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTraveller on plateau and on musing ridge,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAs one who sees in the World-Magician’s glass<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA miracled imagery of soul-scapes flee<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe traversed scenes of an immortal joy w<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd gazed into abysms of beauty and bliss.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAround him was a light of conscious suns<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd a brooding gladness of great symbol things;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

To meet him crowded plains of brilliant calm,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nMountains and violet valleys of the Blest,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nDeep glens of joy and crooning waterfalls<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd woods of quivering purple solitude;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Below him lay like gleaming jewelled thoughts<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Rapt dreaming cities of Gandharva kings.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Across the vibrant secrecies of Space<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

A dim and happy music sweetly stole,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Smitten by unseen hands he heard heart-close A<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The harp’s cry of the heavenly minstrels pass,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

And voices of unearthly melody<\/font><\/p>\n

Chanted the glory of eternal love<\/font><\/p>\n

\nAs if to some new unsearched profundity,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nInto a joyful stillness plunged their base;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Their slopes through a hurry of laughter and voices sank,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nCrossed by a throng of singing rivulets,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAdoring blue heaven with their happy hymn,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nDown into woods of shadowy secrecy: <\/span> <\/p>\n

\nLifted into wide voiceless mystery '<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTheir peaks climbed towards a greatness beyond life.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe shining Edens of the vital gods<\/span><\/p>\n

\nReceived him in their deathless harmonies.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll things were perfect there that flower in Time;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Beauty was there creation’s native mould,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nPeace was a thrilled voluptuous purity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThere Love fulfilled her gold and roseate dreams<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd Strength her crowned and mighty reveries;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Desire climbed up, a swift omnipotent flame,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd Pleasure had the stature of the gods;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Dream walked along the highway of the stars;<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Sweet common things turned into miracles:<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Overtaken by the spirit’s sudden spell,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Smitten by a divine passion’s alchemy,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Pain’s self compelled transformed to potent joy<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Curing the antithesis between heaven and hell.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

All life’s high visions are embodied there,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHer wandering hopes achieved, her aureate combs<\/font><\/p>\n

Caught by the honey-eater’s darting tongue,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHer burning guesses changed to ecstasied truths,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Her mighty pantings stilled in deathless calm<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And liberated her immense desires.<\/font>

Of her sweetness ardent and immaculate,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Her steps are sure of their intuitive fall.<\/font><\/p>\n

After the anguish of the soul’s long strife<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At length were found calm and celestial rest<\/font><\/p>\n

And, lapped in a magic flood of sorrowless hours,<\/font><\/p>\n

Healed were his warrior nature’s wounded limbs<\/font><\/p>\n

In the encircling arms of Energies<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

That brooked no stain and feared not their own bliss. .<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In scenes forbidden to our pallid sense<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Amid miraculous scents and wonder-hues<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

He met the forms that divinise the sight,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

To music that can immortalise the mind<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And make the heart wide as infinity<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Listened, and captured the inaudible<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Cadences that awake the occult ear:<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Out of the ineffable hush it hears them come<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Trembling with the beauty of a wordless speech,<\/font><\/p>\n

And thoughts too great and deep to find a voice,<\/font><\/p>\n

Thoughts whose desire new-makes the universe.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

A scale of sense that climbed with fiery feet<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

To heights of unimagined happiness,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Recast his being’s aura in joy-glow,<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

His body glimmered like a skyey shell,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

His gates to the world were swept with seas of light.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

His earth, dowered with celestial competence,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Harboured a power that needed now no more<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

To cross the closed customs-line of mind and flesh<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And smuggle godhead into humanity.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

It shrank no more from the supreme demand<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Of an untired capacity for bliss,<\/font>

It thrilled with the supernal influences y<\/font><\/p>\n

That build the substance of life’s deeper soul.<\/font><\/p>\n

Earth-nature stood reborn, comrade of
\nheaven. <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A fit companion of the timeless Kings,<\/font><\/p>\n

Equalled with the godheads of the living Suns,<\/font><\/p>\n

\nHe mixed in the radiant pastimes of the Unborn,<\/font><\/p>\n

Heard whispers of the Player never seen<\/font><\/p>\n

And listened to his voice that steals the heart<\/font><\/p>\n

And draws it to the breast of God’s desire,<\/font><\/p>\n

Made body a nectar-cup of the Absolute.<\/font><\/p>\n

In sudden moments of revealing flame,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In passionate responses half-unveiled<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

He reached the rim of ecstasies unknown;<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

A touch supreme surprised his hurrying heart,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe clasp was remembered of the Wonderful,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd hints leaped down of white beatitudes, <\/span><\/p>\n

\nEternity drew close disguised as Love<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd laid its hand upon the body of Time.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA little gift comes from the Immensitudes,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut measureless to life its gain of joy;<\/span><\/font>

All the untold Beyond is mirrored there.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA giant drop of the Bliss unknowable<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOverwhelmed his limbs and round his soul became<\/span><\/font>
