A<\/font>FTER<\/font><\/b> a measureless moment of the soul<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Again returning to these surface fields<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOut of the timeless depths where he had sunk,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe heard once more the slow tread of the hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll once perceived and lived was far away;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Himself was to himself his only scene,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAbove the Witness and his universe<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe stood in a realm of boundless silences<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAwaiting the Voice that spoke and built the worlds.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA light was round him wide and absolute,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA diamond purity of eternal sight;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

A consciousness lay still, devoid of forms,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFree, wordless, uncoerced by sign or rule,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFor ever content with only being and bliss;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

A sheer existence lived in its own peace<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOn the single spirit’s bare and infinite ground.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOut of the sphere of Mind he had arisen,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe had left the reign of Nature’s hues and shades;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

He dwelt in his self’s colourless
\npurity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt was a plane of undetermined spirit<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThat could be a zero or round sum of things,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA state in which all ceased and all began.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll it became that figures the absolute,<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A lonely station of Omniscience,<\/font><\/p>\n

A diving-board of the Eternal’s power,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A white floor in the house of All-Delight.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Here came the thought that passes beyond Thought,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Here the still Voice which our listening cannot hear,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Knowledge by which the Knower is the Known,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Love in which Beloved and Lover are one.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

All stood in an original plenitude,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Hushed and fulfilled before they could create<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The glorious dream of their universal acts,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Here was engendered the spiritual birth,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Here closed the finite’s crawl to the Infinite.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

A thousand roads leaped into Eternity<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Or singing ran to meet God’s veilless face.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The known released him from its limiting chain,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

He knocked at the doors of the Unknowable.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Thence gazing with an immeasurable outlook<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

One with self’s inlook into its own pure vasts,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

He saw the splendour of the spirit’s realms,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The greatness and wonder of its boundless works,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The power and passion leaping from its calm,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The rapture of its movement and its rest,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And its fire-sweet miracle of transcendent life,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The million-pointing undivided grasp<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Of its vision of one same stupendous All,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Its inexhaustible acts in a timeless Time,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

A space that is its own infinity.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

A glorious multiple of one radiant Self, ;<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Answering to joy with joy, to love with love,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll there were moving mansions of God-bliss;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Eternal’s and unique they lived the One.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThere forces are great outbursts of God’s truth<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd objects are its pure spiritual shapes;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Spirit no more is hid from its own view,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll sentience is a sea of happiness<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd all creation is an act of light.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOut of the neutral silence of his soul<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe passed to its fields of puissance and of calm<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd saw the Powers that stand above the world,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTraversed the realms of the supreme Idea<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd sought the summit of created things<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd the almighty source of cosmic change.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThere knowledge called him to her mystic peaks<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWhere thought is held in a vast internal sense<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd feeling swims across a sea of peace<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd vision climbs beyond the reach of Time.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAn equal of the first creator seers,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAccompanied by an all-revealing light<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe moved through regions of transcendent Truth<\/span><\/p>\n

\nInward, immense, innumerably one.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThere distance was his own huge spirit’s extent;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Delivered from the fictions of the mind<\/span><\/p>\n

\nTune’s triple dividing step baffled no more;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Its inevitable and continuous stream,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe long flow of its manifesting course,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWas held in spirit’s single wide regard.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA universal beauty showed its face;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The invisible deep-fraught significances,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHere sheltered behind form’s insensible screen,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nUncovered to him their deathless harmony<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd the key to the wonder-book of common things.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn their uniting law stood up revealed<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The multiple measures of the uplifting force,<\/font><\/p>\n

The enchantments that uphold the cosmic web<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

And the magic underlying simple shapes.<\/font><\/p>\n

On peaks where Silence listens with still heart<\/font><\/p>\n

To the rhythmic metres of the rolling worlds,<\/font><\/p>\n

He served the sessions of the triple fire.<\/font><\/p>\n

On the rim of two continents of slumber and trance<\/font><\/p>\n

He heard the ever unspoken Reality’s voice<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Awaken revelation’s mystic cry,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The birth-place found of the sudden infallible Word<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And lived in the rays of an intuitive Sun.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Absolved from the ligaments of death and sleep<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

He rode the lightning seas of cosmic Mind<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And crossed the ocean of original sound;<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

On the last step to the supernal birth<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

He trod along extinction’s narrow edge<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Near the high verges of eternity,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And mounted the gold ridge of the World-dream<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Between the slayer and the saviour fires;<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The belt he reached of the unchanging Truth,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nMet borders of the inexpressible Light<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd thrilled with the presence of the Ineffable.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAbove him he saw the flaming Hierarchies;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The wings that fold around created space,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe sun-eyed Guardians and the golden Sphinx<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd the tiered planes and the immutable Lords.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA wisdom waiting on Omniscience<\/span><\/p>\n

\nSat voiceless in a vast passivity;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

It judged not, measured not, nor strove to know,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut listened for the veiled all-seeing Thought<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd the burden of a calm transcendent Voice.<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe had reached the top of all that can be known:<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

His sight surpassed creation’s head and base;<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Ablaze the triple heavens revealed their suns,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe obscure Abyss exposed its monstrous rule.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll but the ultimate Mystery was his field,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAlmost the Unknowable disclosed its rim.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHis self’s infinities began to emerge,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe hidden universes cried to him;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Eternities called to eternities<\/span><\/p>\n

\nSending their speechless message still remote.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nArisen from the marvel of the depths<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd burning from the superconscious heights<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd sweeping in great horizontal gyres<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA million energies joined and were the One.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll flowed immeasurably to one sea:<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

All living forms became its atom homes.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA Panergy that harmonised all life<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHeld now existence in its vast control;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

A portion of that majesty he was made.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAt will he lived in the unoblivious Ray.<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

In that high realm where no untruth can come,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWhere all are different and all is one, <\/span> <\/p>\n

\nIn the Impersonal’s ocean without shore<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe Person in the World-Spirit anchored rode;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

It thrilled with the mighty marchings of World-Force,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n
\nIts acts were the comrades of God’s infinite peace.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

An adjunct glory and a symbol self,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

The body was delivered to the soul,\u2014<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

An immortal point of power, a block of poise<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

In a cosmicity’s wide formless surge,<\/font><\/p>\n

A conscious edge of the Transcendent’s might<\/font><\/p>\n

Carving perfection from a bright world-stuff,<\/font>

\nThe moments there were pregnant with all time.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe superconscient’s screen was ripped by thought,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIdea rotated symphonies of sight,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nSight was a flame-throw from identity;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Life was a marvellous journey of the spirit,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

Feeling a wave from the universal Bliss.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

In the kingdom of the Spirit’s power and light,<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

As if one who arrived out of infinity’s womb<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

He came new-born, infant and limitless<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

<\/p>\n

And grew in the wisdom of the timeless Child;<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

He was a vast that soon became a Sun.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

A great luminous silence whispered to his heart;<\/font><\/p>\n

His knowledge an inview caught unfathomable,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAn outview by no brief horizons cut:<\/span><\/font>

\n

He thought and felt in all, his gaze had power.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe communed with the Incommunicable;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Beings of a wider consciousness were his friends,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nForms of a larger subtler make drew near;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The Gods conversed with him behind Life’s veil.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nNeighbour his being grew to Nature’s crests.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe primal Energy took him in its arms;<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

His brain was wrapped in overwhelming Light,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAn all-embracing knowledge seized his heart:<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Thoughts rose in him no earthly mind can hold,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n-Mights played that never coursed through mortal nerves:<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

He scanned the secrets of the Overmind,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nHe bore the rapture of the Oversoul.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nA borderer of the empire of the Sun,<\/span><\/p>\n

\nAttuned to the supernal harmonies,<\/span><\/font>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
