\nThe works of Sri Aurobindo abound in proper names. Their
\nnumber and variety make it difficult for his readers to obtain a
\nfull intellectual understanding of his writings. A person familiar
\nwith Puranic mythology may know little about the geography of
\nancient Greece. An admirer of Shakespeare may never have
\nheard of Yajnavalkya. A student who had the time and the
\ninclination to look up every unfamiliar name would need a full
\nshelf of reference books, some of them difficult to obtain, and
\neven then some terms would escape him. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nThe present volume is an attempt to meet the special needs
\nof students of Sri Aurobindo’s works. The compiler, a member of
\nthe research staff of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives and
\nResearch Library, has consulted more than one hundred volumes
\nand spoken with innumerable people having personal knowledge
\nof the subjects referred to. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nWe are certain that interested readers of the works of Sri
\nAurobindo will find this Glossary and Index<\/b> an invaluable tool. <\/font><\/p>\n
