Their<br \/>\nnumber and variety make it difficult for his readers to obtain a<br \/>\nfull intellectual understanding of his writings. A person familiar<br \/>\nwith Puranic mythology may know little about the geography of<br \/>\nancient Greece. An admirer of Shakespeare may never have<br \/>\nheard of Yajnavalkya. A student who had the time and the<br \/>\ninclination to look up every unfamiliar name would need a full<br \/>\nshelf of reference books, some of them difficult to obtain, and<br \/>\neven then some terms would escape him. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">The present volume is an attempt to meet the special needs<br \/>\nof students of Sri Aurobindo&#8217;s works. The compiler, a member of<br \/>\nthe research staff of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives and<br \/>\nResearch Library, has consulted more than one hundred volumes<br \/>\nand spoken with innumerable people having personal knowledge<br \/>\nof the subjects referred to. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">We are certain that interested readers of the works of Sri<br \/>\nAurobindo will find this <b>Glossary and Index<\/b> an invaluable tool. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><b>&nbsp;<a name=\"ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS_\">ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS<\/a><\/b><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><b> <\/b><br \/>\n\t\t<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;text-indent:25pt;line-height:150%\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;text-indent:25pt;line-height:150%\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">A work such as the present one could never have been brought to completion by<br \/>\nthe efforts of a single individual.
