<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Europe and Asia, met on their borders, clashed in the Troad.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">All over earth men wept and bled and laboured, world-wide Sowing\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Fate with their deeds and had other fruit than they hoped for,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Out of desires and their passionate griefs and fleeting enjoyments\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Weaving a tapestry fit for the gods to admire, who in silence\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Joy, by the cloud and the sunbeam veiled, and men know not their movers.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">They in the glens of Olympus, they by the waters of Ida\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Or in their temples worshipped in vain or with heart-strings of mortals\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Sated their vast desire and enjoying the world and each other\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Sported free and<br \/>\n\tunescorted; for the earth was their prey and their playground. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">But from his luminous deep domain, from his estate of azure\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Zeus looked forth; he beheld the earth in its flowering greenness\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Spread like an emerald dream that the eyes have enthroned in the sunlight,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Heard the symphonies old of the ocean recalling the ages\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Lost and dead from its marches salt and<br \/>\n\tun harnessed furrows, <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Felt in the pregnant hour the unborn hearts of the future.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Troubled kingdoms of men he beheld, the hind in the furrow,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Lords of the glebe and the serf subdued to the yoke of his fortunes,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Slave-girls tending the fire and herdsmen driving the cattle,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Artisans labouring long for a little hire in men&#8217;s cities,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Labour long and the meagre reward for a toil that is priceless.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Kings in their seats august or marching swift with their armies\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Founded ruthlessly brittle empires. Merchant and toiler\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Patiently heaped up our transient wealth like the ants in their hillock.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">And to preserve it all, to protect this dust that must perish,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Hurting the eternal soul and maiming heaven for some metal\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Judges condemned their brothers to chains and to death and to torment,<br \/>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:10pt;line-height:150%\">Page-104<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:10pt;line-height:150%\">\n<hr>\n<p><p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Criminals scourgers of crime,\u2014for so are these ant-heaps founded,\u2014\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Punishing sin by a worse affront to our crucified natures.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">All the uncertainty, all the mistaking, all the delusion\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Naked were to his gaze; in the moonlit orchards there wandered\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Lovers dreaming of love that endures\u2014till the moment of treason;\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Helped by the anxious joy of their kindred supported their anguish\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Women with travail racked for the child who shall rack them with sorrow.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Hopes that were confident, fates that sprang dire from the seed of a moment,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Yearning that claimed all time for its date and all life for its fuel,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">All that we wonder at gazing back when the passion has fallen,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Labour blind and vain expense and sacrifice wasted,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">These he beheld with a heart unshaken; to each side he studied\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Seas of confused attempt and the strife and the din and the crying.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">All things he pierced in us gazing down with his eyelids immortal,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Lids on which sleep dare not settle, the Father of men on his creatures;\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Nor by the cloud and the mist was obscured which baffles our eyeballs,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">But he distinguished our source and saw to the end of our labour.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">He in the animal racked knew the god that is slowly delivered;\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Therefore his heart rejoiced. Not alone the mind in its trouble\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">God beholds, but the spirit behind that has joy of the torture.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Might not our human gaze on the smoke of a furnace, the burning\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Red, intolerable, anguish of ore that is fused in the hell-heat,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Shrink and yearn for coolness and peace and condemn all the labour?\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Rather look to the purity coming, the steel in its beauty,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Rather rejoice with the master who stands in his gladness accepting\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Heat of the glorious god and the fruitful pain of the iron.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Last the eternal gaze was fixed on Troy and the armies\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Marching swift to the shock. It beheld the might of Achilles\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Helmed and armed, knew all the craft in the brain of Odysseus,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Saw Deiphobus stern in his car and the fates of Aeneas,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Greece of her heroes empty, Troy enringed by her slayers,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Paris a setting star and the beauty of Penthesilea.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">These things he saw delighted; the heart that contains all our ages\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Blessed our toil and grew full of its fruits, as the Artist eternal\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Watched his vehement drama staged twixt the sea and the mountains,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Phrased in the clamour and glitter of arms and closed by the firebrand,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Act itself out in the blood and in passions fierce on the Troad.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Yet as a father his children, who sits in the peace of his study\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Hearing the noise of his brood and pleased with their play and their quarrels,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">So he beheld our mortal race. where the heights of our<br \/>\nmountains\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Meet with the divine air, he touches and enters our regions.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Now he ascended back to his natural realms and their rapture,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">There where all life is bliss and each feeling an ecstasy mastered.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Thence his eagle Thought with its flashing pinions extended\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Winged through the world to the gods, and they came at the call, they<br \/>\nascended\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Up from their play and their calm and their works through the infinite<br \/>\nazure.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Some from our mortal domains in grove or by far-flowing river\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Cool from the winds of the earth or quivering with perishable fragrance\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Came, or our laughter they bore and the song of the sea in their paces.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Some from the heavens above us arrived, our vital dominions\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Whence we draw breath; for there all things have life, the stone like the ilex,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Clay of those realms like the children of men and the brood of the giants.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">There Enceladus groans oppressed and draws strength from his anguish\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Under a living Aetna and flames that have joy of his entrails.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Fiercely he groans and rejoices expecting the end of his foemen\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Hastened by every pang and counts long Time by his writhings.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">There in the champaigns unending battle the gods and the giants,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">There in eternal groves the lovers have pleasure for ever,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">There are the faery climes and there are the wonderful pastures.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Some from a marvellous Paradise hundred-realmed in its musings\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Million-ecstasies, climbed like flames that in silence aspire\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Windless, erect in a motionless dream, yet ascending for ever.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">All grew aware of the will divine and grew near<sup>1<\/sup> to their Father.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Grandiose, calm in her gait, imperious, awing the regions,\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Hera came in her pride, the spouse of Zeus and his sister.\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">As at her birth from the foam of the spaces white Aphrodite\n\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Rose in the cloud of her golden hair like the moon in its halo.\n\t<\/p>\n<p><p style=\"text-align:justify;font-family:Times New Roman;font-size:12pt;line-height:150%\">\n\t\t<sup><font size=\"2\">1<\/font><\/sup><font size=\"2\"> The original which seems scratched out in favour of&nbsp;
