\nManas in the Ordinary Psychology and the Integral
\nYoga<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n

\n\u2014Right Ordering of Different Parts in
\nYoga<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE terms Manas, etc. belong to the ordinary
\npsychology applied to the surface consciousness. In our Yoga we adopt a different classification  \u2014based on the Yogic experience. What answers to this movement of the Manas there would be two
\nseparate things\u2014a part of the physical mind
\ncommunicating with the physical-vital. It receives
\nfrom the physical senses and transmits to the Buddhi \u2014i.e., to some part or other of the Thought-Mind. It receives back from the Buddhi and transmits
\nidea and will to the organs of sensation and action. All that is indispensable in the ordinary action of
\nthe consciousness. But in the ordinary consciousness  everything gets mixed up together and there is no  clear order or rule. In the Yoga one becomes
\naware of the different parts and their proper action,  and puts each in its place and to its proper action
\nunder the control of the higher Consciousness or else  under the control of the Divine Power. Afterwards
\n<\/font><\/p>\n

\nand there is an automatic right perception

\nabove will more and more harmonise their action,

\nwith the brain. All forces that want to cover the
\nconsciousness rise up to do it by environing and
\nacting on the mind centres if they can\u2014environing
\nbecause otherwise the covering is not complete. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE brain is only a centre of the physical
\nconsciousness. One feels stationed there so long as one dwells  in the physical mind or is identified with the body-
\nconsciousness, then one receives through the sahasrār
\n<\/i>into the brain. When one ceases to be stationed in
\nthe body, then the brain is not a station but only a passive and silent transmitting channel.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE true thinking mind does not belong to the

\nTHE throat centre is the externalising (physical)
\nmind, the heart is the emotional mind and beginning of the higher vital. If the heart centre is
\n<\/i>dominated by the physical mind to any extent it
\nwill necessarily be open to the outer attacks that
\neffect the physical and nervous consciousness. The  heart has to be in connection with the psychic and 
\nthe higher consciousness.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nplane is evolved out of the Inconscient, out of

\nThe tendency to inquire and know is in itself
\ngood, but it must be kept under control. What is

\nAbove the head is the universal or Divine Consciousness and Force. The Kundalini is the latent

\nIt can be had on any plane, but the natural result
\nis that one gets easily into touch with the Self and

\nPsychic mind and mental psychic are the same
\nthing practically\u2014when there is a movement of
\nthe mind in which the psychic influence predominates, it is called the psychic in the mind or the
\npsychic mind.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE Chitta is not near the heart\u2014if you mean the

\nparticular place. All things of this life are there
\nin this stuff of the consciousness but the memory
\nof past lives is wrapped up and involved elsewhere.
\nThe heart is the main centre of this consciousness
\nfor most men, of course, so you may feel its activities
\ncentred in that level.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nis the psychic being who each time creates a new
\nmind, vital and body for himself.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n<\/a>The Two Vital Centres<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE navel is the chief vital centre below the
\nemotional\u2014there is another centre of small vital
\nmovements below it,\u2014between the navel and
\nMuladhara. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nIt is the lower vital energy that rushes to the
\nbrain and either confuses it and prevents mental self-control or else makes the
\nmind its slave and
\nuses reason to justify the passions.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nemotion. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nThe place of desire is below the heart in the
\ncentral vital (navel) and in the lower vital, but it
\nmoves the emotion and the vital mind. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE physical-vital is the being of small desires

\nTHE nerves are distributed all over the body, but. the vital-physical action is concentrated in its origin

\nTHE physical nerves are part of the material body but they are extended into the subtle body and there

\nTHIS is what is called nervous envelope surrounding
\nthe body. You are probably seeing the sūkṣma<\/i> and
\nnervous envelope in one view. The sūkṣma deha <\/i>contains the sthula deha,<\/i> only it is not bound to its
\nlimitations.<\/font><\/p>\n

\n<\/a>The Sheaths<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/font><\/p>\n

\nYES, there are nerves in the subtle body. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nYes\u2014sheaths is simply a term for bodies, because
\neach is superimposed on the other and acts as a
\ncovering and can be cast off. Thus the physical body
\nitself is called the food sheath and its throwing off
\nis what is called death.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nBY the gross physical is meant the earthly and bodily
\nphysical\u2014as experienced by the outward sense-mind
\nand senses. But that is not the whole of Matter.  There is a subtle
\nphysical also with a subtler consciousness in it which can (for instance) go to a distance from the body and yet feel and be aware of
\nthings in a not merely mental or vital way. As for
\nmind and vital, they are everywhere\u2014there is an obscure mind and life even in the cells of the body,
\nthe stones or in molecules and atoms.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE outer consciousness is shut up in the body limitation and in the little bit of personal mind and sense
\ndependent on the body\u2014it sees only the outward,
\nsees only things. But the inner consciousness can
\nsee behind the thing, it is aware of the play of
\nforces, personal or universal\u2014for <\/b> it is in conscious
\ntouch with the universal action.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE inner parts in everybody remain vulgar or

\nhigher forces from above and the inner impulsion of
\nthe psychic. All forces can play there. It is the outer
\nbeing that is fixed in a certain character, certain
\ntendencies, certain movements.<\/font><\/p>\n

\nlower being (vital and physical) was receiving an

\nmind and higher vital which was clearing it of the
\nold habitual lower vital reactions: very often in the
\nsadhana one feels the inner being speaking to the outer
\nor the mind or higher vital speaking to the lower so
\nas to enlighten it.<\/font><\/p>\n
