You seem to<br \/>\nhave very elementary ideas in this matter. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">What is your idea of divinisation\u2014to be a<br \/>\nvirtuous man, a good husband, son, father, a good<br \/>\ncitizen, etc. In that case, I myself am undivine, for<br \/>\nI have never been these things. Men like X or<br \/>\nY would then be the great Transformed Divine Men. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">But do you really believe that men like Napoleon,<br \/>\nCaesar, Shakespeare were not great men and did<br \/>\nnothing for the world or for the cosmic purpose?<br \/>\nthat God was deterred from using them for His<br \/>\npurpose because they had defects of character and<br \/>\nvices? What an absurd idea! <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"4\"><i><br \/>\n<a name=\"The_Divine_and_the_Vices_of_Great_Men\">The Divine and the Vices of Great Men<\/a><\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"4\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">WHY should the Divine care for the vices of great<br \/>\nmen? Is he a policeman? So long as one is in the ordinary nature, one has<br \/>\ncapacities and defects,<br \/>\nvirtues and vices. When one goes beyond, there are<br \/>\nno virtues and vices,\u2014for these things do not<br \/>\nbelong to the Divine Nature. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Page-635 <\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"4\"><i><br \/>\n<a name=\"Vice_and_Virtue_and_Darkness_and_Light\">Vice and Virtue and Darkness and Light<\/a><\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"4\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">VICE and virtue have nothing to do with darkness<br \/>\nor light, truth and falsehood. The spiritual man<br \/>\nrises above vice and virtue, he does not rise above<br \/>\ntruth and light, unless you mean by truth and<br \/>\nlight, human truth and mental light. Many great men even have often<br \/>\nvery great vices and many of them. The man feels the energy in all he does, and mistakes the<br \/>\nenergy for high accomplishment. It is a common error. If he does not believe in it, it is humbug, but it is<br \/>\nnot vanity.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"4\"><i><a name=\"Avatar_and_Vibhuti\">Avatar and Vibhuti<\/a><\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"4\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">AN Avatar, roughly speaking, is one who is<br \/>\nconscious of the presence and power of the Divine born in him or descended into<br \/>\nhim and governing from within his will and life and action; he feels identified<br \/>\ninwardly with this divine power and presence. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">A Vibhuti is supposed to embody some power of the<br \/>\nDivine and is enabled by it to act with great <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Page-639 <\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">force in the world, but that is all that is<br \/>\nnecessary to make him a Vibhuti: the power may be very great, but the<br \/>\nconsciousness is not that of an inborn or indwelling Divinity. This is the<br \/>\ndistinction we can gather from the Gita which is the main authority on this<br \/>\nsubject. If we follow this distinction, we can confidently say from what is<br \/>\nrelated of them that Rama and Krishna can be accepted as Avatars;&nbsp; Buddha<br \/>\nfigures as such although with a more impersonal consciousness of the Power<br \/>\nwithin him. Ramakrishna voiced the same consciousness when he spoke of Him who<br \/>\nwas Rama and who was Krishna being within him. But Chaitanya&#8217;s case<i> <\/i>is<br \/>\npeculiar; for according to the accounts he ordinarily felt and declared himself<br \/>\na bhakta of Krishna and nothing more, but in great moments he manifested<br \/>\nKrishna, grew luminous in mind and body and was Krishna himself and spoke and<br \/>\nacted as the Lord.
