It is only when one has gained<br \/>\nthe enduring rest and passivity of the consciousness<br \/>\nthat it is easy to concentrate and receive when<br \/>\nwalking or doing anything. A fundamental passive condition of the consciousness<br \/>\ngathered into itself is<br \/>\nthe proper poise for concentration and a seated<br \/>\ngathered immobility in the body is the best position<br \/>\nfor that. It can be done also lying down, but that<br \/>\nposition is too passive, tending to be inert rather<br \/>\nthan gathered. That is the<br \/>\nbest way. Calm rejection for both<br \/>\nis the cure. There is a Purusha within who can<br \/>\ndictate to the nature what it shall admit or exclude, but its will is a strong,<br \/>\nquiet will; if one gets perturbed or agitated over the difficulties, then the<br \/>\nwill of the Purusha cannot act effectively as it would<br \/>\notherwise. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\" align=\"justify\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">The dynamic realisation will probably take place<br \/>\nwhen the higher consciousness comes fully down<br \/>\ninto the vital. When it comes into the mental it<br \/>\nbrings the peace of the Purusha and liberation and<br \/>\nit may bring also knowledge. It is when it comes<br \/>\ninto the vital that the dynamic realisation becomes<br \/>\npresent and living.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\" align=\"justify\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\" align=\"justify\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">27-10-1938 <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Page-252 <\/font><\/p>\n<hr align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"4\"><i><br \/>\n<a name=\"Meditation and Divided Consciousness\"><\/a>Meditation and Divided Consciousness<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 25px;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\" align=\"justify\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">THAT is not called meditation\u2014it is a divided state<br \/>\nof consciousness; unless the consciousness is really&nbsp; engrossed and the surface thoughts are only things that come across and touch and pass, it can hardly be called meditation <i>(dhyana).<\/i> I don&#8217;t see how the<br \/>\ninner being can be engrossed while whole thoughts<br \/>\nand imaginations of another kind are rambling<br \/>\nabout in the surface consciousness.
