\nFOREWORD<\/b><\/i> <\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/p>\n

\nThis second series of Sri Aurobindo’s letters is intended to be
\ncomplementary to the volume published on his 75th birthday \u2014the 15th August, 1947. It is a
\nfarther instalment from
\nthe vast store of his letters which yet remain to be
\npublished. Some idea of their immense quantity
\ncan be had from the fact that regularly for six to eight hours every day over a period of about ten years he
\ngave replies to the innumerable inquiries addressed
\nto him by the spiritual aspirants in his Ashram and
\nelsewhere. The letters included in the first volume were
\nselected with a view to giving a broad outline of the basic
\nprinciples of his spiritual metaphysics and psychology and
\nhis system of Integral Yoga. The letters in the present volume
\nare compiled so as to throw a closer light and give a some-
\nwhat more intimate insight into the various aspects of the
\ndynamic development of the spiritual practice enunciated
\nby him. And as this practice aims not only at a liberation
\nfrom the chains of Ignorance that bind our life but also
\nat a decisive spiritual conquest and transmutation of that
\nIgnorance, resulting in the complete divinisation of our entire
\nexistence, the manifold problems of human life also come
\nup at many places for illuminating elucidation from the
\ncentral spiritual vision, besides the questions directly<\/i> <\/font><\/p>\n

\nconnected with Yoga and arising in the course of the
\ndifficult journey on the spiritual path. <\/b> For this reason it is
\nexpected that this book will prove of great value not only
\nto all spiritual seekers in need of guidance and help
\nin their endeavour, but also to those who are eager to comprehend the true significance of the enigmatic complexities
\nof human existence and their final issue.<\/i> <\/font><\/p>\n

\nThe names of the persons to whom these letters were
\naddressed have all been omitted following the direction
\ngiven by Sri Aurobindo himself in a letter : "Coupled with
\na reference to names what is written raises needless criticism
\nand controversy while the same thing put impersonally is
\nbetter received and more easily accepted."<\/i> <\/font><\/p>\n
