Mother Divine,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

A few points on which Thy divine guidance is required.
\n<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

There is resistance from the villagers in selling
\ntheir lands. This may be because we have done nothing to integrate them with Auroville<\/span>. They feel it is a foreign imposition on them
\nwhich will do them no good but will drive them from their hearths and homes.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Should we not demonstrate to them our real intentions
\nby providing them with facilities such as a dispensary, a school, clean drinking
\nwater, etc.? This would be money well spent if it is done with love and
\nhumility and not as charity. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

This is indispensable. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nlike to continue giving food to the workers, others feel that even if funds
\nwere available they could be utilised better elsewhere. Please give us your
\nguidance. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Once you have started giving food to the
\nworkmen, you cannot stop doing so, otherwise you would lose their confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is imperative – show it to the
\nothers. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nworkers has never been interrupted and I personally will manage it, till a new

It would give all of us strength and the awareness of unity if this
\nprogramme of giving a free midday meal to all Auroville<\/span>
\nworkers received a message from you.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Goodwill for all and goodwill from all is
\nthe basis of peace and harmony.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those who are in contact with the
\nvillagers should not forget that these people are worth as much as they are,
\nthat they know as much, that they think and feel as well as they do. They
\nshould therefore never have an attitude of ridiculous superiority. <\/span><\/p>\n

 To the inhabitants of Aspiration: <\/span><\/p>\n

A relationship that is not only cordial
\nbut friendly with the inhabitants of the neighbouring village is absolutely
\nindispensable. For the realisation of Auroville<\/span> the
\nfirst step is to establish a true human fraternity <\/span>―<\/span> any shortcoming in this regard is a grave
\nmistake which can compromise the whole work. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nvillage, which started on 7 August 1970, we pray for your guidance in the

\n      <\/span>(1) Whether they are to be treated as Aurovilians<\/span> in all matters.<\/span> <\/span>Yes.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

(2) Whether regular Prosperity should be issued to them. <\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n

Yes. <\/span><\/p>\n

(3) Whether all Prosperity items can be taken from Auroville<\/span>
\nProsperity. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

All that they choose to take. <\/span><\/p>\n

(4) Whether any guiding principles should be laid down for them on
\njoining Auroville<\/span>. If yes, the Mother may kindly
\nenlighten us. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Certainly it would be good if somebody was
\nintelligent enough to do it and do it well. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

(5) Whether any particular amount for food should be fixed per person
\nper day; if yes, whether Rs<\/span>. 2.50 per adult and Rs<\/span>. 2.00 per child will be all right. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

There must be a period of at least one
\nmonth during which they are given what they ask. Afterwards we shall see what
\nmay be done reasonably. <\/span><\/p>\n

From the spiritual point of view, India is
\nthe foremost country in the world. Her mission is to set the example of
\nspirituality. Sri Aurobindo came on earth to teach this to the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

This fact is so obvious that a simple and
\nignorant peasant here is, in his heart, closer to the Divine than the
\nintellectuals of Europe. <\/span><\/p>\n

All those who want to become Aurovilians<\/span> must know this and behave accordingly;
\notherwise they are unworthy of being Aurovilians<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Someone offered to help to clean Last School<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

It is all right. But while putting things
\nin order, be very careful not to offend the people from the Tamil village. It
\nhas been very difficult for us to win their confidence and nothing should be
\ndone which could make them lose this new-born confidence which is of capital
\nimportance. <\/span><\/p>\n

Take with you someone who knows and speaks
\nTamil fluently so that you can talk with them and explain things to them. <\/span><\/p>\n

They are your brothers in spirit <\/span>―<\/span> this should never be forgotten. <\/span><\/p>\n
