\ntowards the supramental<\/span> manifestation upon earth. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is only when

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Man is a transitional being upon earth and
\nhence, in the course of his evolution, he has had several successive natures
\nwhich have followed an ascending curve and will continue to do so till he
\nreaches the threshold of the supramental<\/span> nature and
\nis transformed into superman. This curve is the spiral of mental development.
\nWe tend to call \u201cnatural\u201d any spontaneous manifestation which is not the result
\nof a choice or a premeditated decision, that is to say, which is without the
\nintrusion of mental action. That is why, when a man has a vital spontaneity
\nwhich is not very mentalised<\/span>, he seems to us more
\n\u201cnatural\u201d in his simplicity. But it is a naturalness which is much like that of
\nthe animal and is at the very bottom of the human evolutionary scale. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>You must never forget that the outer
\nperson is only the form and the symbol of an eternal Reality, and that, passing
\nthrough the physical appearance, it is to this higher Reality that you must
\nturn. The physical being cannot become truly expressive of the Eternal Reality
\nuntil it is completely transformed by the supramental<\/span>
\nmanifestation. And until then, it is by passing
\nthrough <\/i>it that you must find the Truth. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Sweet Mother, what
\nare the \u201csupreme faculties\u201d? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

It is difficult to
\nreply without seeing the context. Which \u201csupreme faculties\u201d does it refer to?
\nThose of man on the way to becoming superman, or those which the supramental<\/span> being will possess when he appears on earth? <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>In the first case, they are faculties that
\ndevelop in man as he opens to the higher mind and overmind<\/span>
\nand through them receives the light of Truth. These faculties are not a direct
\nexpression of the supreme Truth but a transcription, an indirect reflection of
\nit. They include intuition, foreknowledge, knowledge by identity, and certain
\npowers such as those of healing and of acting upon circumstances to a certain
\nextent. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>If it refers to the supreme faculties of
\nthe supramental<\/span> being, we cannot say much about them,
\nfor all we can say at the moment belongs more to the realm of imagination than
\nto the realm of knowledge, since this being has not yet manifested on earth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beloved Mother: <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The following
\ninteresting question arises: \u201cWith the descent of the Supramental into matter,
\nand presuming that new laws and processes will be in effect, may we envisage
\nbeings whose control in the body may enable them to neutralize or absorb
\nradioactivity <\/span><\/i>or over-exposure to cosmic rays?\u201d <\/span><\/i>

A learned man in
\nthe Ashram said that immunisation<\/span> to radiation is
\n\u201cimpossible\u201d because physical matter is controlled by lower nature. I expect

Both statements
\nare true. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>(1) So long as matter remains what it is,
\nit cannot be made immune. But (2) the supramental<\/span>
\nforce is expected to transform <\/i>the
\nmaterial body also (in the long run) and when that <\/i>is done then everything becomes possible or rather nothing is
\nimpossible. <\/span><\/p>\n

26 August 1961<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

If a world-war breaks out, it may not only
\ndestroy the major portion of humanity but may even make living conditions for
\nthose who survive impossible due to the effects of the nuclear fall-out. In
\ncase the possibility of such a war is still there, will it not affect the
\nadvent of the Supramental Truth and the New Race upon earth? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

All these are
\nmental speculations and once you enter the domains of mental imaginations there
\nis no end to the problems and to their solutions. But all that does not bring
\nyou one step closer to the truth. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The safest and most healthy attitude of
\nthe mind is like this one: We have been told in a positive and definite way
\nthat the supramental<\/span> creation will follow the present
\none, so, whatever is in preparation for the future must be the circumstances
\nneeded for this advent whatever they are. And as we are unable to foresee
\ncorrectly what these circumstances are, it is better to keep silent about them.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\nmorning in my meditation I saw so many things which were logically unrelated but
\nwhich definitely produced the impression that something extraordinary is about
\nto happen. This is the first time, perhaps, that I have had such a
\npresentiment, lasting almost an hour. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>I want to know whether there is any truth
\nin it and how we should prepare for it. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Last night, we
\n(you and I and a few others) were together for quite a long time in Sri Aurobindo\u2019s<\/span> permanent dwelling-place in the subtle physical
\n(what Sri Aurobindo<\/span> called the true physical).
\nEverything that took place there (far too long and complicated to relate) was organised<\/span>, so to say, to express concretely the rapidity of
\nthe present movement of transformation. And with a smile, Sri Aurobindo<\/span> told you something like this: \u201cDo you believe
\nnow?\u201d It was as if he were evoking the three lines from Savitri<\/i><\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGod shall grow up while the wise men talk and sleep, <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>For man shall not know the coming till its
\nhour <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And belief shall be not till the work is

\nexplanation of the meditation you refer to. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nwill be fully realised upon earth the Lord will infinitely exceed this realisation<\/span> which will be followed by other manifestations

Those who are ready for the transformation can do it anywhere. And those

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The supramental<\/span>
\ntransformation is hard labour<\/span> and needs a strong
\nbody. For some time more, probably more than a hundred years, the physical body
\nwill need to eat in order to keep its strength; and we have to comply with this
