After several
\nweeks of grave illness which <\/font> <\/span><\/p>\n

threatened<\/font><\/span><\/span> the Mother\u2019s life. <\/font><\/span>
\n
\n <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Just between <\/span>11:00<\/span> and <\/span>12:00<\/span> last night, I had an experience by which
\nI discovered that there is a group of people − purposely their identity
\nwas not revealed to me − who want to create a kind of religion based on
\nthe revelation of Sri Aurobindo. But they have taken only the side of power and
\nforce, a certain kind of knowledge and all that could be utilised by Asuric
\nforces. There is a big Asuric being that has succeeded in taking the appearance
\nof Sri Aurobindo. There is only an appearance. This appearance of Sri Aurobindo
\nhas declared to me that the work I am doing is not his. It has declared that I have
\nbeen a traitor to him and to his work and has refused to have anything to do
\nwith me. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>There is in that group a man whom I must
\nhave seen once or twice, who is not with them in spirit, but only in
\nappearance. But he is without knowledge,<\/span> he does not
\nknow what kind of being is there. And he always hopes to make this being accept
\nme, believing it is truly Sri Aurobindo. This being I saw last night. I won\u2019t
\ntell all the details of the vision − it is not necessary. But I must say
\nthat I was fully conscious, aware of everything, knowing that an Asuric force
\nwas there − but not rejecting it because of the infinity of Sri
\nAurobindo. I knew that everything is part of him and I do not want to reject
\nanything. I met this being last night three times, even apologised for sins
\nthat I have not committed and in full love and surrender. I woke at <\/span>12:00<\/span>, remembering everything. Between <\/span>12:15<\/span> and <\/span>2:00<\/span> I was with the true Sri Aurobindo in the
\nfullest and sweetest relation − there also in perfect consciousness,
\nawareness, calm and equanimity. At <\/span>2:00<\/span> I woke and noted just before that Sri
\nAurobindo himself had shown me that still he was <\/span>not<\/span><\/span> completely master of the physical realm.  <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\n I woke up at <\/span>2:00<\/span> and noticed that the heart had been
\naffected by the attack of this group that wants to take my life away from this
\nbody, because they know that so long as I am in a body upon earth their purpose
\ncannot succeed. Their first attack was many years ago in vision and action. I
\nhad it in the night and spoke of it to nobody. I noted down the date, and if I
\ncan come out of this crisis, I will find it and give it out. They would have
\nliked me dead years ago. It is they who are responsible for these attacks on my
\nlife. Up till now I am alive because the Lord wanted me to be alive, otherwise
\nI would have gone long ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>I am no more in my body. I have left it
\nfor the Lord to take care of it, to decide if it is to have the Supramental or
\nnot. I know and I have said also that now is the last fight. If the purpose for
\nwhich this body is alive is to be fulfilled, that is to say, the first steps
\ntaken towards the Supramental transformation, then it will continue today. This
\nis the Lord\u2019s decision. I am not even asking what he has decided. If the body
\nis incapable of bearing the fight, if it has to be dissolved, then humanity
\nwill pass through a critical time. What the Asuric Force that has succeeded in
\ntaking the appearance of Sri Aurobindo will create, is a new religion or
\nthought, perhaps cruel and merciless, in the name of the Supramental
\nRealisation. But everybody must know that it is not true, it is not Sri
\nAurobindo\u2019s teaching, not the truth of his teaching. The truth of Sri Aurobindo
\nis a truth of love and light and mercy. He is good and great and compassionate
\nand Divine<\/span>. And it is He who will have the final
\nvictory. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Now, individually, if you want to help,
\nyou have only to pray. What the Lord wants will be done. Whatever He wills, He
\nwill do with this body, which is a poor thing. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nthe transcript of this talk was read to the Mother, she commented: <\/span><\/p>\n

\ndepends on what the Lord will decide. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nI don\u2019t know. After all, it depends on Him. He knows if the time has come or
\nnot, the time for the beginning of the Victory − then the body will
\nsurvive; if not, in any case, my love and consciousness will be there. <\/span><\/p>\n

After several

Suddenly in the
\nnight I woke with the full awareness of what we could call the Yoga of the
\nWorld. The Supreme Love was manifesting through big pulsations, and each
\npulsation was bringing the world further in its manifestation. It was the
\nformidable pulsations of the eternal stupendous Love, only Love. Each pulsation
\nof the Love was carrying the universe further in its manifestation. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And there was the certitude that what is
\nto be done is done and that the Supramental Manifestation is realised. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Everything was impersonal, nothing was
\nindividual. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>This was going on and on and on and on. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The certitude that what is to be done is done<\/i>. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>All the results of the falsehood had
\ndisappeared: death was an illusion, sickness was an illusion, ignorance<\/span> was an illusion − something that had no
\nreality, no existence. Only Love and Love and Love and Love −
\nimmense, formidable, stupendous, carrying everything.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And how to express it in
\nthe world?<\/span> It was like an impossibility<\/span>,
\nbecause of the contradiction. But then it came: \u201cYou have accepted that the
\nworld should know the Supramental Truth\u2026 and it will be expressed totally,
\nintegrally.\u201d Yes, yes…<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And the thing is done<\/i>. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

(Long silence<\/i>)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The individual consciousness came back:
\njust the sense of a limitation, a limitation of pain; without that, no
\nindividual.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\nabsolutely the same as that of the Lord. There was no difference, no
\ndifference. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nare That, we are That. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

DIALOGUE WITH A MATERIALIST<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

O Death, thou speakest Truth but Truth
\nthat slays, I answer to thee with the Truth that saves. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Sri Aurobindo, Savitri<\/i><\/span>, X, 3 <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The other day, in
\ndealing with a question of work, I had occasion to explain my position from the
\nstandpoint of the materialists\u2019 conviction. I do not know where they stand now,
\nfor I do not concern myself with that generally. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>For them, all the experiences that men
\nhave are the result of a mental phenomenon − it is that. We have attained
\na progressive mental development. They would be quite unable to say why or how !<\/span> − but in brief, it is Matter that has developed
\nLife, and Life that has developed Mind, and all the so-called spiritual
\nexperiences of man are mental constructions − they use other words, but I
\nbelieve that this is their idea. In any case, it is a negation of all spiritual
\nexistence in itself and a negation of a Being or of a Force or of Something<\/span> higher which governs everything.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>I repeat, I do not know where they stand
\nnow, but I was faced with a conviction like that. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And so I said: \u201cBut it is very simple \u00a0<\/span>I<\/span> accept your
\npoint of view. There is nothing else except what we see, humanity as it is, and
\nall the so-called inner phenomena are due to a mental, a cerebral action; and
\nwhen you die, you die − that is to say, when the phenomenon of
\nagglomeration reaches the end of its life and dissolves, everything dissolves.
\nIt is all right.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Probably if things had been like that, life
\nwould have appeared so disgusting that I would have gone out of it long ago.
\nBut I must immediately say that it is not for a moral or even  <\/span>a<\/span><\/span> spiritual reason that I disapprove of
\nsuicide. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n It is for me a cowardice<\/span>, and there is
\nsomething in me that does not like cowardice, and therefore I would not\u2026 I
\nwould never run away from the problem. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>That is point number one. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And then, once you are here, you ought to
\ngo to the end, even if the end is nothingness − you go till the end, and
\nit is better to go in the best way possible, that is to say, the way most
\nsatisfactory to you. It happens that I had some philosophical curiosity and
\nstudied a little about all these problems. I found myself in the presence of
\nSri Aurobindo\u2019s teaching, and what he says is for me the most satisfactory of
\nall. What he has taught (I should say revealed, but not to a materialist) is,
\namong the systems formulated by man, by far the most satisfactory for me, the
\nmost complete, answering in the most satisfactory way all the questions that
\ncan be put, the one that helps me most in life to have the feeling that it is
\nworth something. Therefore I try to conform entirely to what he teaches and to
\nlive it integrally in the best possible way to live − best for me. It is
\nall the same to me if others do not believe in it − whether they believe
\nin it or not makes no difference for me. I do not need to be supported by the
\nconviction of others; my own satisfaction is enough. Well, there is nothing
\nmore to say. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The experiment lasted for a long time. In
\ncomplete detail, to all problems I answered like that. And when I had ended, I
\ntold myself, \u201cBut this is marvellous as an argument !\u201d<\/span>
\nBecause all the elements of doubt, ignorance, incomprehension, ill-will,
\nnegation, all those things that come − immediately they go away with that
\nargument; they are annulled, they have no effect. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And afterwards, everything was securely
\ngrasped, solid. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>What have you got to say
\n?<\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>It is much easier to reply to materialists<\/span> who are uncompromising,  <\/span><\/p>\n

convinced<\/span><\/span>, sincere (that is to say, sincere within
\nthe limits of their consciousness) than to people having a religion −
\nmuch easier ! <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>But naturally, from the intellectual point
\nof view, all human convictions have an explanation and a place. There is
\nnothing men have thought which is not the deformation of a truth. The
\ndifficulty is not there, but rather in the fact that for religious people there
\nare things which it is their duty to believe and it is a sin to let the mind
\ndiscuss them − and so they shut themselves up, naturally, and they can
\nnever make any progress. Whereas the materialists, on the contrary, are
\nsupposed to know everything, explain everything: they explain everything
\nrationally. And thus (Mother laughs<\/i>)
\nby the very fact that they explain everything, they can be led to wherever one
\nwants to go.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

With religious people nothing can be done.
\n<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>But after all, that also is not good. If
\nthey have been clinging to a religion, it is because that religion has helped them
\nin one way or another, it has helped in them precisely something which wanted
\nto have a certitude, not to have to search but to be able to rest on something
\nsolid without being responsible for the solidity − somebody else is
\nresponsible (Mother laughs<\/i>) and it
\ngoes on like that. It is a lack of compassion to want to pull them out of that −
\nit is better to leave them where they are. I never dispute with someone who has
\na faith − let him keep his faith! I take care not to tell him anything
\nthat might shake his faith, because it would not be good − they are not
\ncapable of having another.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>But to a materialist: \u201cI do not dispute, I
\naccept your standpoint; only, you have nothing to say − I have taken my
\nposition; you take yours. If you are satisfied with what you have, keep it. If
\nit helps you to live, it is quite all right.  <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>TO CHOOSE THE TRUTH<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Truth? What do you mean when
\nyou speak of \u201cthe Truth\u201d? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

You want a mental
\ndefinition of the Truth. The Truth cannot be expressed in mental terms. Yes, it
\nis so. And all the questions put are mental questions. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The Truth cannot be formulated, it cannot
\nbe defined − it is to be lived<\/i>.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>And one who is wholly consecrated to the
\nTruth, who wants to live the Truth, serve the Truth, will know at each moment
\nwhat must be done: it will be a kind of intuition or revelation (most often
\nwithout words, but sometimes also expressed in words) which will make you know
\nat every minute what is the truth of that minute. And it is this that is so
\ninteresting. You want to know \u201cthe Truth\u201d as a thing well defined, well
\nclassified, well established, and after that you are at rest: there is no need
\nto seek any more! You take it up, you say: \u201cHere, this is the Truth\u201d and then
\nit is fixed. This is what all the religions have done. They have established
\ntheir truth as a dogma. But it is not the Truth any more. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The Truth is something living, moving,
\nexpressing itself at each second, and it is one
\n<\/i>way of approaching the Supreme. Each one has his way of approaching the
\nSupreme. There are perhaps some who are able to approach him from all sides at
\nthe same time, but there are those who approach through Love, those who
\napproach through Power, those who approach through Consciousness and those who
\napproach through Truth. But each of these aspects is as absolute, imperative
\nand undefinable as the supreme Lord himself is. The supreme Lord is absolute,
\nimperative  <\/span><\/p>\n

and<\/span><\/span> undefinable, unseizable in his action,
\nand his attributes have this same quality. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Once one knows this, he who puts himself at
\nthe service of one of these aspects will know (it is expressed in life, in
\ntime, in the movement of time), will know at each moment what Truth is, and
\nwill know at each moment what Consciousness is, and will know at each minute
\nwhat Power is, and he will know at each minute what Love is. And it is a
\nmultiform Power, Love, Consciousness, Truth<\/span> that
\nexpresses itself innumerably in the manifestation, even as the Lord expresses
\nhimself innumerably in the manifestation.  <\/span><\/p>\n
