REBIRTH<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Sri Aurobindo<\/span> says
\nthat some time after death the vital and mental sheaths dissolve, leaving the
\nsoul free to retire to the psychic world before it takes up new sheaths. What
\nbecomes of the Karma and of the impressions − Samskaras<\/span>
\n− on the old sheaths? Do they also dissolve without producing any result,
\ngood or bad, which they should according to the theory of Karma? Also, what
\nbecomes of the vital and mental beings after the dissolution of the vital and
\nmental sheaths? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The outer form
\nonly dissolves, unless that too is made conscious and is organised<\/span>
\nround the divine centre. But the true mental, the true vital and even the true
\nsubtle physical persist: it is that which keeps all the impressions received in
\nearthly life and builds the chain of Karma. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/ins><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>If we go a little way within ourselves, we
\nshall discover that there is in each of us a consciousness that has been living
\nthroughout the ages and manifesting in a multitude of forms. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nthat which is formed by parents, environment and circumstances − the
\nmental, the vital and the physical − that is born again: it is only the
\npsychic being that passes from body to body. Logically, then, neither the mental
\nnor the vital being can remember past lives or recognise<\/span>
\nitself in the character or mode of life of this or that person. The psychic
\nbeing alone can remember; and it is by becoming conscious of our psychic being
\nthat we can have at the same time exact impressions about our past lives. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Besides, it is much more important for us
\nto fix our attention upon what we want to become than upon what we have been. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nloss for all here. He was perfect in consecration and honest in his work, a man
\non whom one could count, which is a truly exceptional quality. He has departed
\ninto a solar light and is enjoying the conscious rest which he truly deserved. <\/span><\/p>\n

In my dreams I see X very happy. One day I
\nsaw him leaning over my table and he said to me, \u201cI had no opportunity to tell
\nyou anything while I was leaving, because Sri Aurobindo\u2019s<\/span>
\ncall made me hurry away immediately.\u201d Is there any truth in this dream, Mother?

\nwill never be able to say what dress you put on or the gentleman with whom you

But then how is it
\nthat in newspapers one quite often reads stories of small children who remember
\ntheir past lives and that the details have been verified? And it is the study
\nof such events that leads parapsychologists to assert the existence of
\nreincarnation. So are they not on a completely wrong track? And how can
\nreincarnation be demonstrated scientifically in any other way? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The memories you
\nrefer to, which are mentioned in newspapers, are memories of the vital being
\nthat, exceptionally, has gone out of one body in order to enter another. It is
\nsomething that can happen, but it is not frequent. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The memory that I refer to is that of the
\npsychic being, and one is conscious of it only when one is in conscious
\nrelation with one\u2019s psychic being. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nthings. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nis going wrong with my brain. I often think of suicide. Please pardon me and give

If you are sincere
\nin your aspiration to see me, you must throw far away from you these morbid
\nideas of suicide which are quite contrary to any divine life. Be patient, firm
\nand steady, face quietly the difficulties of life and still more quietly the
\ndifficulties of \u201csadhana<\/span>\u201d − then you will be
\nsure of the final success. <\/span><\/p>\n

I feel that I am your blank child born

It is in this world <\/i>that you have to change
\nand that the change is possible. If you run away from this world, you will have
\nto come again probably in worse conditions and you will have to do everything all

\nMother\u2019s instructions in my life, I have been very much surrounded by
\ndifficulties \u2014 to such an extent that suicide is the only solution. So I
\nrequest you to be kind enough to see that my prayer reaches the Mother\u2019s
\npersonal notice.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Mother, what should I reply? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Suicide, far from
\nbeing a solution, is a stupid aggravation of the situation, that for perhaps
\ncenturies will make life intolerable. <\/span><\/p>\n

12 June 1972<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Ramayana says that when Rama<\/span> saw that his work on earth was finished, he entered
\nthe river Sarayu<\/span> along with his companions. This
\nlooks like mass suicide and suicide is regarded as the greatest sin. How to
\nunderstand this? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>1. For the Supreme there is no sin. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>2. For the devotee there is no greater sin
\nthan to be far from the Lord. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>3. At the time when the Ramayana was
\nconceived and written, the knowledge revealed by Sri Aurobindo<\/span>
\nthat the earth will be transformed into a divine world and an abode of the
\nSupreme was not known or accepted. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nunderstand the legend. (Although it may be that the actual facts were not as
\nthey have been told.) <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
