But the fool who thinks he is intelligent, is a fool<br \/>\nindeed. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Even if the fool serves an intelligent man<br \/>\nthroughout his life, he will nevertheless remain ignorant of the truth, just as<br \/>\nthe spoon knows not the taste of the soup. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>If an intelligent man serves a wise man,<br \/>\nif only for a moment, he will quickly understand the truth, just as the tongue<br \/>\ninstantly perceives the savour of the soup. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The fools, those who are ignorant, have no<br \/>\nworse enemies than themselves; bitter is the fruit they gather from their evil<br \/>\nactions. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The evil action which one repents later<br \/>\nbrings only regrets and the fruit one reaps will be tears and<br \/>\nlamentations.<span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 216<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The good action one does not need to<br \/>\nrepent later brings no regret and the fruit one reaps will be contentment and<br \/>\nsatisfaction. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>As long as the evil action has not borne<br \/>\nits fruits, the fool imagines that it is as sweet as honey. But when this<br \/>\naction bears its fruits, he reaps only suffering. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Though month after month the fool takes<br \/>\nhis food with the tip of a blade of Kusa grass,<\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Lucida Console\"'>\u00b9<\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> he is not for all<br \/>\nthat worth a sixteenth part of one who has understood the truth. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>An evil action does not yield its fruits immediately,<br \/>\njust as milk does not at once turn sour; but like a fire covered with ashes,<br \/>\neven so smoulders the evil action. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Whatever vain knowledge a fool may have<br \/>\nbeen able to acquire, it leads him only to his ruin, for it breaks his head and<br \/>\ndestroys his worthier nature. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The foolish monk thirsts after reputation,<br \/>\nand a high rank among the Bhikkhus, after authority in the monastery and<br \/>\nveneration from ordinary men. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>\u201cLet ordinary men and holy ones esteem<br \/>\nhighly what I have done; let them obey me!\u201d This is the longing of the fool,<br \/>\nwhose pride increases more and more. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One path leads to earthly gain and quite<br \/>\nanother leads to Nirvana. Knowing this, the Bhikkhu, the disciple of the<br \/>\nPerfectly Enlightened One, longs no more for honour, but rather cultivates<br \/>\nsolitude.<span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:18.0pt;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Lucida Console\"'><font size=\"2\">\u00b9<\/font><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<\/font> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">Kusa grass is considered sacred in India. Taking one&#8217;s<br \/>\nfood with the tip of a blade of Kusa grass symbolises an act of asceticism.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 217<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>This seems to<br \/>\npoint directly to hypocrites who take up the external forms and appearances of<br \/>\nwisdom but in their hearts keep all the desires, ambitions, the need for show,<br \/>\nand live to satisfy this ambition and these desires instead of living for the<br \/>\nonly thing that is worth living for: attainment of the true consciousness,<br \/>\nintegral self-giving to the Divine, the peace, the light and the delight that<br \/>\ncome from the true wisdom and self-forgetfulness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:18.0pt;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One could easily<br \/>\nreplace throughout this text the word fool by the word ego. One who lives in<br \/>\nhis ego, for his ego, in the hope of satisfying his ego is a fool. Unless you<br \/>\ntranscend ego, unless you reach a state of consciousness in which ego has no<br \/>\nreason for existing, you cannot hope to attain the goal. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:18.0pt;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The ego seems to<br \/>\nhave been indispensable at one time for the formation of the individual<br \/>\nconsciousness, but with the ego were born all the obstacles, sufferings,<br \/>\ndifficulties, all that now appears to us as adverse and anti-divine forces. But<br \/>\nthese forces themselves were a necessity for attaining an inner purification<br \/>\nand the liberation from ego. The ego is at once the result of their action and<br \/>\nthe cause of their prolongation.
