One who is freed from desire,<br \/>\nwho feels no grief, what has he to fear? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Craving<br \/>\ngives rise to grief; craving gives rise to fear. <\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 255<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span style='font-size:18.0pt;font-family:\"Courier New\";color:#E69619'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One<br \/>\nwho is freed from craving, who feels no grief, what has he to fear?<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One<br \/>\nholds dear a man who acts rightly, possesses intuition, who is righteous and<br \/>\nknows the Truth, who fulfils his duty. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One<br \/>\nwho aspires to the ineffable Peace, one whose mind is awakened, whose thoughts<br \/>\nare not entangled in the net of desire, that one is said to be \u201cbound upstream\u201d<br \/>\n(towards perfection). <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Just<br \/>\nas, after a long absence, a man returning safely home is received by his<br \/>\nkinsmen and friends who welcome him, even so it is with one who acts rightly;<br \/>\nwhen he passes from this world to the other, his own good actions welcome him<br \/>\nlike a kinsman. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It always seems to me that the reasons usually given for becoming<br \/>\nwise are poor reasons: \u201cDon&#8217;t do this, it will bring you suffering; don&#8217;t do<br \/>\nthat, it will give birth to fear in you\u201d&#8230; and the consciousness dries up more<br \/>\nand more, it hardens, because it is afraid of grief, afraid of pain. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>I think it would be better to say that<br \/>\nthere is a certain state of consciousness&#8211;which one can acquire by aspiration<br \/>\nand a persistent inner effort \u2013 in which joy is unmixed and light shadowless,<br \/>\nwhere all possibility of fear disappears. It is the state in which one does not<br \/>\nlive for oneself but where whatever one does, whatever one feels, all movements<br \/>\nare an offering made to the Supreme, in an absolute trust, freeing oneself of<br \/>\nall responsibility for oneself, handing over to Him all this burden which is no<br \/>\nlonger a burden. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It is an inexpressible joy not to have any<br \/>\nresponsibility for oneself, no longer to think of oneself. It is so dull and<br \/>\nmonotonous and insipid to be thinking of oneself, to be worrying <\/span><br \/>\n<span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 256<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span style='font-size:18.0pt;font-family:\"Courier New\";color:#E69619'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>about what to do and what not to do, what will be good for you and<br \/>\nwhat will be bad for you, what to shun and what to pursue \u2013 oh, how wearisome<br \/>\nit is! But when one lives like this, quite open, like a flower blossoming in<br \/>\nthe sun before the Supreme Consciousness, the Supreme Wisdom, the Supreme<br \/>\nLight, the Supreme Love, which knows all, which can do all, which takes charge<br \/>\nof you and you have no more \u2013 worries<span>\u00a0<br \/>\n<\/span>that is the ideal condition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>And why is it not done? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One does not think of it, one forgets to<br \/>\ndo it, the old habits come back. And above all, behind, hidden somewhere in the<br \/>\ninconscient or even in the subconscient, there is this insidious doubt that<br \/>\nwhispers in your ear: \u201cOh! if you are not careful, some misfortune will happen<br \/>\nto you.
