\nnot follow the way of evil. Do not cultivate indolence of mind. Do not choose
\nwrong views. Do not be of those who linger in the world. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Arise.
\nCast off negligence. Follow the teaching of wisdom. The sage knows happiness in
\nthis world and the other. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Follow
\nthe teaching of wisdom and not that of evil. The sage knows happiness in this
\nworld and the other. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

One
\nwho looks upon the world as a bubble or a mirage, Yama the King of Death cannot
\nfind him. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Come,
\nlook upon the world as the brightly-coloured chariot of a Raja, which attracts
\nthe foolish, but where, in truth, there is nothing attractive. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

One
\nwho, having been negligent, becomes vigilant, illumines the earth like the moon
\ncoming forth from behind the clouds. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

One
\nwhose good actions efface the evil he has done, illumines the earth like the
\nmoon coming forth from behind the clouds. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The
\nworld is wrapped in darkness and few are those who find their way, who, like a
\nbird escaping from a net, soar up towards heaven. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The
\nswans take the path of the sun. Those who possess occult powers fly through the
\nair. The sages leave<\/span><\/i> <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>this world after defeating Mara and his army
\nof evil.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

No
\nevil is impossible to him who transgresses one law of the Doctrine, who utters
\nfalsehood and who disdains the higher world. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

In
\ntruth, misers do not attain to the world of the gods and fools do not know the
\nhappiness of giving. But the sage delights in giving and thus knows happiness
\nin the other world. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Rather
\nthan ruling the earth, rather than reaching heaven, rather than reigning over
\nthe worlds, it is better to enter the upward current. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

There are four pieces of advice here which I would like to retain
\nfor our meditation. \u201cDo not cultivate indolence of mind.\u201d \u201cDo not choose wrong
\nviews\u201d \u2013 unfortunately this is something one does all the time. And, \u201cArise.
\nCast off negligence.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

The world has been so made–at least up to
\nnow, let us hope that it will not be so for much longer\u00a0 <\/span>that, spontaneously, a man who is not
\ncultured, when he is brought into contact with ideas, always chooses wrong
\nideas. <\/span><\/p>\n

And a child who is not educated always
\nchooses bad company. It is a thing I experience constantly and concretely. If
\nyou keep a child in a special atmosphere and if, from a very early age, you
\ninstill in him a special atmosphere, a special purity, he has a chance of not
\nmaking a wrong choice. But a child who is taken from the world as it is and is
\nplaced in a society where there are good and bad elements will go straight to
\nthose who can spoil him, teach him wrong things, that is to say, towards the
\nworst company. <\/span><\/p>\n

A man who has no intellectual culture, if
\nyou give him some mixed ideas, just at random, to choose from, he will always
\nchoose the stupid ones; because, as Sri Aurobindo has told us, <\/span>
\n <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n

this is a world of falsehood, of ignorance and an effort is
\nneeded, an aspiration; one must come in contact with one’s inmost being \u2013 a
\nconscious and luminous contact \u2013 if one is to distinguish the true from the
\nfalse, the good influence from the bad. If you let yourself go, you sink into a
\nhole. <\/span><\/p>\n

Things are like that because what rules
\nthe world \u2013 oh! let us put it in the past tense, so that it becomes true \u2013 what
\nruled the world was falsehood and ignorance. <\/span><\/p>\n

In fact, for the moment, it is still like
\nthat; one should have no illusions about it. But perhaps with a great effort
\nand great vigilance we shall be able to make it otherwise… soon \u2013 the
\n\u201cperhaps\u201d is for \u201csoon\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n

Surely it will come one day, but we want
\nit soon, and that is why the last two recommendations please me: \u201cArise. Cast
\noff negligence.\u201d <\/span>
