After a period of meditation she answered<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tany <\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">.questions <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">raised by the disciples.<br \/>\n\t\t\tPortions of fifteen of these weekly talks, which <i>were <\/i>given in English, were noted down<br \/>\n\t\t\tin shorthand by one of those present ; the transcript was elaborated by<br \/>\n\t\t\tanother<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tparticipant, and finally revised by Sri Aurobindo for publication. <\/font>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">The talks, entitled <i>Conversations of the Mother, <\/i>were first<br \/>\n\t\t\tpublished for private circulation towards the end of <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1931. <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">In <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1940 <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">they<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\twere made available <\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">to<br \/>\n\t\t\tthe<br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">public as the main part of the<br \/>\n\t\t\tbook <i>Words<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tof the Mother. <\/i>This <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n\t\t\twas reprinted <\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">in<br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1943, 1946 <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">and <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1949. <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">In <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1956 <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">the<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\ttalks were published separately (with a short Foreword by the<br \/>\n\t\t\tMother)<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tas <i>Conversations. <\/i>This <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">book was reprinted <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">in <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1961, 1966, 1971 <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">and<br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t1973. <\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">In the present<br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">volume <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">the talks have been given the<br \/>\n\t\t\tname<br \/>\n\t\t\t<i><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tQuestions and Answers 1929.<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tQUESTIONS AND ANSWERS 1930-31<br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\"><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tDuring <\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1930 <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">and <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">1931 <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">the Mother spoke with a group<br \/>\n\t\t\tof disciples who met her in the room of the Ashram called &quot;Prosperity&quot;. The Mother based her commentaries on a French translation of the Pali text. The commentaries, given in French, were tape-recorded<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tat the time.<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-left: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">The text, in a revised translation by Mme. <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\">Suzanna <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">Karpel\u00e8s<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t(Bharatidi), and the Mother&#8217;s commentaries were first published<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tin 1960, under the title <\/font><br \/>\n\t\t\t<font FACE=\"Times New Roman\"><i>Commentaires sur Ie<br \/>\n\t\t\tDhammapada. <\/i><\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">A<br \/>\n\t\t\tsecond<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tedition was issued in 1974. An English translation was serialised in<br \/>\n\t\t\tthe<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tquarterly <\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\"><i>Advent <\/i><br \/>\n\t\t\t<\/font><font FACE=\"Times New Roman\" SIZE=\"3\">from November 1960 to<br \/>\n\t\t\tFebruary 1965.
