\nAfter a long physical trial of about
\na month and a half, <\/font> <\/span><\/p>\n

\nMother made the following comments, which were<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\n noted down
\nfrom memory by a disciple. <\/font> <\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn physical vision
\na much more continued concentration is needed. Physical sight serves to
\nstabilise<\/span>. It gives a continuity to things. It is
\nthe same thing with regard to hearing. So, when they are not there any more, one
\nbecomes directly conscious of the thing, and that gives the true knowledge. The
\nSupramental will surely act in that way. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nPhysical sight and
\nhearing have been thrown into the background to make room for identification by
\nconsciousness, for the sake of the growth of consciousness. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nThe means for
\nrelating, knowing, is consciousness identifying itself with the thing or the
\nperson. Instead of having the normal sense of separation, there is the sense of
\nconstant union. There are experiences altogether interesting. There are people
\nwho call me and think of me. That comes into the field of my consciousness. And
\nafter a time I am told, \u201cSuch a person has come\u201d or \u201cSomething has happened to
\nsuch a person\u201d, and I say, \u201cI know.\u201d At the time the thing had happened, I was
\nnot told anything, but I was conscious as though the thing had happened in a
\npart of my own being.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n

\nOne of my legs had
\nbeen dead for a long time (it is just beginning to revive),
\nparalysed<\/span>. One leg. So naturally, all became difficult…. But what was
\nremarkable, I can tell you immediately, is that the consciousness established
\nthere (gesture above the head<\/i>) became more and more strong, more and more
\nclear; and it was constant.<\/i> I worked, I continued to work, not only for
\nIndia but for the world and in constant relation (\u201cconsulted”, you understand),
\nactively. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nAbout
\ntransformation, well, I do not know…. What I have explained about \u201creplacement
\nof consciousness\u201d is being done methodically, methodically, continually,
\ncontinually, but then with… apparent damages or in any case, for a time, a
\ngreat diminution of capacities. But it is a curious phenomenon with the sight
\nand hearing: from time to time it is clear, as clear as it can be, and from time
\nto time it is completely veiled. And that has very very<\/span>
\nclearly another origin \u2013 another origin of influence. It will take months, I
\nbelieve, before I am able to see clearly. In any case, the general consciousness
\n(same gesture above the head<\/i>), what may be called the universal
\nconsciousness (in any case the terrestrial consciousness), has not moved for a
\nminute \u2013 not for a minute. It remained there all the while. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nperception of beings and happenings that has changed? Is it your way of
\nperceiving that has changed? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\nYes, altogether \u2013
\naltogether. It is very strange…. Actually, all this time has been utilised for
\ndeveloping the consciousness of the physical being. And this physical being (Mother
\ntouches her body<\/i>) seems really to have been prepared for another
\nconsciousness, because there are things… its reactions are altogether
\ndifferent, its attitude is different. I have passed through a period of total
\nindifference when the world represented nothing, meant nothing. And then,
\ngradually, from there emerged a new perception, as it were. It is only on the
\nway. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut it was not an
\ninnocent paralysis ! For at least three weeks \u2013 at least \u2013 for three weeks, a
\nconstant pain, night and day, twenty-four hours out of twenty-four, without
\nfluctuation, none: it was as though I was being torn asunder…. So there was no
\nquestion of seeing anybody. Now it is finished. The pain is quite bearable and
\nthe body has resumed a little of its normal life. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut I wanted to
\ntell you that my consciousness was all the time active with you. Did you feel
\nit? <\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n


\nI felt very
\nstrongly the Power. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n

\nAh! That’s it
\nthen. <\/span><\/p>\n

\ninstantaneously, quite immediately<\/span><\/i>.

\nparticularly that if it came down into your leg, that would mean it came down

\ntook it in that way. It was not only the leg, but the lower part of the leg (Mother
\ntouches her feet<\/i>)…. But I noticed how things, the so-called catastrophes
\nor calamities or misfortunes or difficulties, how all that comes just in the
\nnick of time to help you \u2013 just<\/i> as it is needed to help you…. Indeed,
\nall that which in the physical nature belonged still to the old world, to its
\nhabits, its ways of doing and being, its ways of acting, all that could not be
\n\u201chandled” in any other way than this: through illness. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nI cannot say that
\nit has not been interesting. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut I, on my side,
\nkept contact with everyone even physically \u2013 I do not know if they remained
\nconscious or not, but I kept contact with everybody. It depends on the
\nreceptivity of people. I did not feel at all that there was any rupture of
\nrelations or anything of the kind \u2013 not at all, not at all. Even at the time
\nwhen, externally, I was suffering in that way and people thought I was wholly
\nconcerned with my suffering, it did not occupy me. I do not know how to
\nexplain… I was seeing quite well that this poor body was not very bright, but
\nthat did not occupy me. All the while there was the feeling of this… this
\nTruth which has to be understood and manifested. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd there was this
\nnote (how to say it?), it was the outcome of something and the beginning of
\nsomething also, and in a very precise way. I do not know if it is
\nunderstandable. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nbe directly conscious of things, without passing through the sense organs.

\nslightest sound; but all the noises of conversation, all the things that make so
\nmuch noise, I do not hear at all!… Something has changed. But it is old \u2013 it
\nis old, that is to say, old habits are there. But happily, I was not a person of
\nhabits…. Yes (Mother smiles<\/i>), you can say: it is something tough that
\nis in the process of changing ! So it is not supple, it is not easy. But the
\nchange is there, the change is evident. I have changed very much<\/i>, even as
\nregards character, as regards understanding, as regards the vision of things 
\nmuch, very much…. There has been wholly a regrouping. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nOnly, I did not
\nknow how to make use of this note in an understandable way. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nBut, Mother, it is
\nquite understandable<\/span><\/i>.

\nIt is simply not to let people down in that way: all at once, nothing more.
\nAfterwards, one is so far away that people do not understand at all. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nprinciple of the new consciousness is that things are done just at the moment

\nThere was a whole
\nperiod when I was absolutely inaccessible because I was suffering continuously \u2013
\none is worthless then. It was continuous, continuous. One might say that it was
\nbut a cry all the while. It lasted a long time, lasted several weeks. I did not
\ncount. Then gradually, it alternated with moments of calmness when I had no
\nfeeling of my leg. And it is only for the last two or three days that it looks
\nas if it is being put back in order…. Yes, it was such… it was the whole
\nproblem of the world \u2013 a world that is nothing but pain and suffering, and a big
\nnote of interrogation: why? <\/span><\/p>\n

\nI tried all the
\npalliatives that one uses: to change the pain into pleasure, to remove the
\ncapacity of feeling, to occupy oneself with some other thing…. I tried all the
\n\u201ctricks\u201d \u2013 not a single one succeeded! There is something in the physical world
\nas it is which is not… (how to explain?) which is not yet open to the divine
\nVibration. And it is this something which does all, all, all the evil…. The
\nDivine Consciousness is not felt. And then, any number of imaginary things (but
\nvery real to the sensation)<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span>Page – 249<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t<\/p>\n

\n  exist, and that
\nthing, the only true thing is not felt…. But now it is better. It is better.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt is truly
\ninteresting. I believe something may have been done on the general score \u2013 it
\nwas not merely the difficulty of one body or one person: I believe something has
\nbeen done to prepare Matter to receive as it must, in a suitable way \u2013 it was as
\nthough it received in a wrong way and it has learnt to receive in the right way.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt will come.
\nPerhaps, I do not know if it will take months or years for the thing to become
\nclear. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n

\nThen, before taking leave, the
\ndisciple reads out a note written by Mother. <\/span><\/p>\n

        Light

\nmost exactly, it is their condition, the state in which they are. Especially,
\nthere are some who seem as though closed, who, as far as I am concerned, do not
\nsee, who are altogether in their outward consciousness; and then there are those
\nwho are open \u2013 there are… some children, a remarkable thing, who were as
\nthough entirely open (gesture as of a flower to the sun<\/i>), ready to
\nabsorb. It is particularly the receptivity of people which I see, the state in
\nwhich they are: those who come with an aspiration, those who come with a
\ncuriosity, those who come… as though with a kind of obligation, and then there
\nare those who thirst for light \u2013 there are not many of them, but there are quite
\na few children. Today I saw one who was charming ! … Oh, wonderful ! <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd I see only
\nthat. Not what they think, what they say (all that appears to me superficial,
\nuninteresting); it is the state of receptivity in which they happen to be. It is
\nthat particularly which I see.   <\/span><\/p>\n

\nthat now there is a sort of \u201cdisplay\u201d (you know, \u201cdisplay\u201d?), a show of all that

\nwhich they would not do in the world!… On the other side, one feels that to
\nhasten the \u2013 one could<\/i> hasten it if one were… if one were a conqueror !

\nit has been like \u2013  strikes, quarrels, disorders…. And then the feeling that
\norder must be re-established with the help of those who have created the
\ndisorder. That is the thing to be done. Instead of the basis of ordinary
\ngoodwill and all the moral and social rules \u2013 all that dashed to the ground \u2013
\none must rise above, the divine Will and the divine Harmony must be there, it is
\nthat which we want; and then those who have revolted against the ordinary law of
\nthings and the ordinary social conventions: prove that you are in relation with
\na higher consciousness and a truer truth. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nIt is time to do
\nit (gesture of a leap upward<\/i>). <\/span><\/p>\n

\nAnd from the point
\nof view of organising power, it is a power… extremely powerful. It is a
\nwonder. And then, if this power is placed at the disposal of the higher order,
\nthe truer consciousness, something can be done. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n One must… must
\nmake a leap upward. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nAll the people who
\nwant to re-establish order pull backward into all the old ideas \u2013 that is why
\nthey never succeed. That is finished, finished for good. We go upward. Only they
\nwho rise can act.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\nIf the Lord wants
\nsuccess for us, it can be something tremendous<\/i>. There is the possibility
\nof a tre-men-dous<\/span> success \u2013 not in the air, but
\nhere. The whole thing is to know whether the time for that success has come.

\nEverywhere there
\nis the possibility, I tell you, of an… extraordinary success. Has the moment
\ncome? I do not know…. As for myself, I make myself like this (gesture of

\nwide towards the Lord<\/i>). <\/span><\/p>\n

\nYou see, there is
\nthe Will that is coming down and then there are all these formations that get in
\nand delay its execution \u2013 I would like, I would like my atmosphere to be… a
\nlimpid, altogether limpid transmitter. I do not try even to know what it is, for
\nthat too brings in an ordinary humanity…. The limpid, limpid transmitter: let
\nit come like that (gesture of descent<\/i>), pure, in all its purity \u2013 even if
\nit be formidable. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn reality, we do
\nnot know why this is like that, why that is like that, and we have a vision…
\neven if our vision englobes the earth, it is so small, so small \u2013 so exclusive:
\nwe want this, we do not want that…. First of all, the very first thing is to
\nmake the instruments… one must be limpid<\/i>, limpid, letting things pass
\nwithout deformation, without obstruction. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nIndeed, I am
\nspending my time at that: trying to be like that. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n


\nBut this
\npossibility of victory that you are feeling, is it something recent? <\/span><\/i>\n<\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n

\nYes. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nBecause, apparently, the circumstances are evidently not so good \u2013 apparently.

\nall the circumstances seemed to organise<\/span> themselves
\nfor a catastrophe. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n Only a few days
\nago it was as though the catastrophe was impending. And then, at that moment, my
\nwhole being was, as though… (how to say it?) it was, yes, one might call it an
\naspiration for the true Victory, not that which this one wants or that one wants
\nor… but the real Victory. It is this which seems to have brought in all<\/i>
\nthe difficulties \u2013 these exclusive wills<\/i>. And then, all at once there
\nappeared as though a light: the possibility of the Victory. It is still… it is
\nnot miraculous, but it is the Intervention… the intervention of the Supreme
\nWisdom. Will it be concrete? We will see. It seems to come, it seems to come in
\nthis way (gesture of a certain height, the two palms turned downward<\/i>), as
\na possibility. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nNo, it is recent,
\nquite recent. I cannot say, for it did not come suddenly, but it is a question
\nof days. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/p>\n


\nYes, because for
\nsome time I was feeling a great pessimism<\/span><\/i>.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\nThat is a bad
\nattitude. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nI did not have
\nthat attitude, however, but it was as though a pessimistic atmosphere was coming
\nin<\/span><\/i>.

\nAll that does not
\nwant the Divine creates this atmosphere purposely to discourage those who want
\nthe Divine. You must… you must not pay attention. That, that is the way of the
\ndevil. Pessimism is the demon’s weapon and he senses his situation<\/span><\/p>\n
