In that he is mistaken.<br \/>\nIn his physical nature he is yet almost wholly an animal, a thinking and<br \/>\nspeaking animal, but still an animal in his material habits and instincts.<br \/>\nUndoubtedly, nature cannot be satisfied with such an imperfect result; she<br \/>\nendeavours to bring out a being who will be to man what man is to the animal, a<br \/>\nbeing who will remain a man in its external form, and yet whose consciousness<br \/>\nwill rise far above the mental and its slavery to ignorance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Sri Aurobindo came upon earth to teach this truth to men. He told<br \/>\nthem that man is only a transitional being living in a mental consciousness,<br \/>\nbut with the possibility of acquiring a new consciousness, the<br \/>\nTruth-consciousness, and capable of living a life perfectly harmonious, good<br \/>\nand beautiful, happy and fully conscious. During the whole of his life upon<br \/>\nearth, Sri Aurobindo gave all his time to establish in himself this<br \/>\nconsciousness he called supramental, and to help those gathered around him to<br \/>\nrealise it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>You have the immense privilege of having come quite young to the<br \/>\nAshram, that is to say, still plastic and capable of being moulded according to<br \/>\nthis new ideal and thus become the representatives of the new race. Here, in<br \/>\nthe Ashram, you are in the most favourable conditions with regard to the<br \/>\nenvironment, the influence, the teaching and the example, to awaken in you this<br \/>\nsuprarenal consciousness and to grow according to its law. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Now, all depends on your will and your sincerity. If you<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 116<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoPlainText\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>have the will no more to belong to ordinary humanity, no more to<br \/>\nbe merely evolved animals; if your will is to become men of the new race<br \/>\nrealising Sri Aurobindo&#8217;s supramental ideal, living a new and higher life upon<br \/>\na new earth, you will find here all the necessary help to achieve your purpose;<br \/>\nyou will profit fully by your stay in the Ashram and eventually become living<br \/>\nexamples for the world. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span style='font-family:Times New Roman' lang=\"EN-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>24<br \/>\n July 1951<\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> <\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;text-indent:-.5in;line-height:150%'>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>What is the real purpose, the aim of our Education Centre? Is it<br \/>\nto teach Sri Aurobindo&#8217;s works? And these only? And all or some of these? Or is<br \/>\nit to prepare students to read Sri Aurobindo&#8217;s works and Mother&#8217;s? Is it to<br \/>\nprepare them for the Ashram life or also for other `outside&#8217; occupation? There<br \/>\nare so many opinions floating around, and even those older people whom we<br \/>\nexpect to know make so many different statements, that one does not know what<br \/>\nto believe and act by. Then on what basis can we work without any real sure<br \/>\nknowledge? I pray, Mother, give us your guidance.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It is not a question of preparing to read these works or other<br \/>\nworks. It is a question of pulling all those who are capable to do so, out of<br \/>\nthe general human routine of thought, feeling and action; it is to give all<br \/>\nopportunities to those who are here to cast off from them the slavery to the<br \/>\nhuman way of thinking and doing; it is to teach all those who want to listen<br \/>\nthat there is another and truer way of living, that Sri Aurobindo has taught us<br \/>\nhow to live and become a<span>\u00a0 <\/span>it <span>true being \u2013 <\/span>and that the aim of the<br \/>\neducation here is to prepare the children and make them fit for it <span>that life<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>For all the rest, the human ways of thinking and living, the<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 11<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoPlainText\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>world is vast and there is<br \/>\nplace out there for everybody. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It is not a number that we want it is a selection; it is not<br \/>\nbrilliant students that we want, it is living souls. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/elibrarytest\/-02 Works of The Mother\/-01_CWMCE\/-12_On Education_Volume-12\/_images\/v-12_p-118.jpg\" width=\"417\" height=\"177\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It should be known and we should not hesitate to say openly that<br \/>\nthe purpose of our school is to discover and encourage those in whom the need<br \/>\nfor progress has become conscious enough to orient their life. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>From the worldly standpoint, from the point of view of result<br \/>\nachieved certainly things can be done better. But I am speaking of the effort put<br \/>\nin, effort in the deepest sense of the word. Work is prayer done with the body.<br \/>\nWith that effort in your work the Divine is satisfied; the eye of the<br \/>\nConsciousness that has viewed it is indeed pleased. Not that from the human<br \/>\nstandpoint one cannot do better. For us, however, this particular endeavour is<br \/>\none among many; it is only one movement in our Sadhana. We are engaged in many<br \/>\nother things. To bring one particular item of work to something like perfection<br \/>\nrequires time and means and resources which are not at our disposal.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 118<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoPlainText\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>But we do not seek perfection in one thing, our aim is an integral<br \/>\nachievement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>An outside view may find many things to criticise and criticise<br \/>\nmuch, but from the inner view what has been done has been done well. In an<br \/>\noutside view, you come with all kinds of mental, intellectual formations and<br \/>\nfind there is nothing uncommon in what is done here. But thereby you miss what<br \/>\nis behind: the Sadhana. A deeper consciousness would see the march towards a<br \/>\nrealisation that surpasses all. The outside view does not see the spiritual<br \/>\nlife; it judges by its own smallness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>There are people who write wanting to join our University and they<br \/>\nask what kind of diploma or degree we prepare for, the career we open out. To<br \/>\nthem I say: go elsewhere, please, if you want that; there are many other<br \/>\nplaces, very much better than ours, even in India, in that respect. We do not<br \/>\nhave their equipment or magnificence. You will get there the kind of success<br \/>\nyou look for. We do not compete with them. We move in a different sphere, on a<br \/>\ndifferent level. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>But this does not mean that I ask you to feel superior to others.<br \/>\nThe true consciousness is incapable of feeling superior. It is only the small<br \/>\nconsciousness that seeks to show its superiority. Even a child is superior to<br \/>\nsuch a being: for it is spontaneous in its movements. Rise above all that. Do<br \/>\nnot be interested in anything other than your relation with the Divine, what<br \/>\nyou wish to do for Him. We are here<br \/>\nto find the Divine, to become divine, to manifest the Divine. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>What happens to us is the Divine&#8217;s affair, not ours. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>Spiritual teaching is above<br \/>\nreligions and strives towards a global Truth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It teaches us to enter into direct relations with the Divine. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" Our aim is perfection. Remember you are on<br \/>\nthe threshold of it <span>a new world<\/span>,<br \/>\nparticipating in its birth and instrumental in its creation. There is nothing<br \/>\nmore important than the transformation. To<br \/>\nobliterate them is not curing them; instead they should be cultivated,<br \/>\nintellectualised, refined. That is the surest way of curing them.
