\nYoga class the question of the psychic being has come up. In the Life Divine
\nchapter entitled \u201cThe Double Soul in Man\u201d, Sri Aurobindo speaks first of the
\npsychic entity which \u201cis the Witness and Control, the hidden Guide, the Daemon
\nof Socrates\u201d etc.
\n <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\nThen he speaks of this
\nentity taking form in us as the psychic Person, by which He evidently means the
\npsychic being, and which, He says, grows and develops and \u201cis the traveller

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>We have then the
\npsychic entity and, as its self-projection in Nature, the psychic being, and
\ntheir seat is in the secret heart of man. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\nDivine who, it is said in the Gita and the Upanishads, dwells as the Lord in
\nthe hearts of men? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

\nentity that is meant here or the Immanent Divine? Can the psychic entity be called

\npsychic being that evolves and the psychic entity from behind only supports

There are none of these rigid distinctions
\nin Sri Aurobindo\u2019s teaching. The psychic entity and the psychic being are one
\nand the same thing approached from a different point of view. It is not the
\nimmanent Divine but contains it so to say. <\/span><\/p>\n

In our poetry class yesterday, I spoke about the object we have
\nplaced before us in our study of poetry: the perception and enjoyment of the
\ndivine Beauty and Delight which pervade the universe. And I said that as we
\nembrace the whole of life in Yoga, so we accept the entire genuine
\nself-expression of the spirit <\/span><\/i>of life in poetry.

\nWe would range up and down the whole realm of
\npoetic creation like free, unattached worshippers of the Divine Beauty and

Later in the afternoon I was told by X that Y does not like
\nlove-poems and so he resented my remarks on them some days back. Yesterday too
\nit appears that the same thing upset him. He has very narrow and rigid views on
\nthings and is extremely intolerant of others\u2019 views.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Well, I think it would be better not to
\nlay too much stress, in your studies of poetry, on the human side of love, as
\nit is not helpful for sadhana and for some it is distinctly harmful. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nhave been committing this stupidity in my classes for years. May I beg you to
\nallow me to stop giving them? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Many lazy-minded people are very happy to
\nbe given explanations about Sri Aurobindo\u2019s books, because they have the
\nfeeling that they understand better. That is why I have not interfered. Indeed,
\nit is better for people to hear readings and take interest in them than to have
\nno contact at all with Sri Aurobindo\u2019s writings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everything depends on what he means by
\n\u201cdivinely directed\u201d. After his first visit I wrote to him that from the
\nmaterial standpoint the Ashram was in need of an overall reorganisation, and
\nthat I thought he could help me to do it. But that it would be possible only if
\nhe could bring with him from America money donated or lent interest-free for 25
\nyears. I mentioned the sum of Rs.10 crores.\u00b9<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>He
\nhas always considered this to be an unfeasible stipulation \u2014 and yet it is an indispensable one<\/i>. Without it,
