If a soul has taken
\nbirth as a boy in one life, does it always remain a boy in future lives, or can
\nit be born as a girl? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Theories differ greatly according to
\nschool and sect, and each teaching gives excellent reasons to support its
\ncontentions. <\/span><\/p>\n

Certainly
\nthere is an element of truth in all these statements; and not only are all
\ncases possible, but they must have occurred in the course of the earth\u2019s
\nhistory and still do.The
\nonly thing I can speak of with certainty on this subject, is my own experience.                                                                                                                 <\/span>According
\nto my experience, the soul is divine, an eternal portion of the Supreme Divine,
\nand therefore it cannot be limited or bound by any law whatever, except its
\nown. These souls are emanated by the Lord to do His work in the world, and each
\none comes on earth with a particular purpose, for a particular work, and with a
\nparticular destiny; each has its own law which is binding on itself alone and
\ncannot be made a general rule.                                                                                     <\/span>So
\nin the eternity of the becoming, every possible case, imaginable and
\nunimaginable, must obviously occur. <\/span><\/p>\n

\npeople read to find out what is going on in the world and is indicative of
\nhuman progress; in addition to reading, they may go to the cinema and listen to
\nthe radioPeople
\nwho read in order to develop a good style ought to read a lot, and they should
\nchoose books of literary merit.Some people read in order to learn. They should choose instructive books on the
\nsubject or subjects they are interested in: philosophy, science, art, etc. <\/span><\/p>\n

And
\nthen there are the very few who want to understand life, its purpose and its
\ngoal. For them, Sri Aurobindo\u2019s books are the best reading of all. <\/span><\/p>\n

Why do we celebrate
\nChristmas here? What special meaning does this day have for us? And why is a

Long before the Christian religion made December
\n25th the day of Christ\u2019s birth, this day was the festival of the return of the
\nsun, the Day of Light. It is this very ancient symbol of the rebirth of the
\nLight that we wish to celebrate here. As
\nfar as I know, everyone in the Ashram is allowed to come to the Christmas tree
\nand the distribution. <\/span><\/p>\n

The
\ncustom of sending special baskets to the Europeans and Americans comes from the
\nfact that in those countries they usually give presents to each other on

Most probably these are subconscious
\nactivities which have risen to the surface during your sleep. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nasked him where he had been, but he just smiled without answering. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

When I wake up in the
\nmorning, I remember him very clearly, although I have no recollection of the
\nrest of the night\u2019s dreams. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

In this case, your dreams seem to indicate
\nthat he has recently taken a new body without my being informed of it, which is
\nquite possible.  <\/span>It
\ncannot be among the children I have seen, for I would have recognised him, but

There is a way. You
\nmust go consciously into the psychic world and see whether you find the psychic
\nbeing in question. If you see it, the matter is settled. If you don\u2019t see it,
\nyou must concentrate on it in order to make contact, and ask it to show you
\nwhich human body it is in. This can be a long and delicate task. <\/span><\/p>\n
