I do not see the logic of the consequence. I must first be<br \/>\nconvinced that death and failure are evil; I sometimes think that when they<br \/>\ncome, they are our supreme momentary good. But we are the fools of our hearts<br \/>\nand nerves and argue that what they do not like or desire, must of course be an<br \/>\nevil! <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>But what about those who are unlucky and always fail<br \/>\nin everything they do? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>First, once and for all, you should know<br \/>\nthat luck, good or bad, does not exist. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>What to our ignorance looks like luck is<br \/>\nsimply the result of causes we know nothing about. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>It is certain that for someone who has<br \/>\ndesires, when his desires are not satisfied, it is a sign that the Divine Grace<br \/>\nis with him and wants, through experience, to make him progress rapidly, by<br \/>\nteaching him that a willing and spontaneous surrender to the Divine Will is a<br \/>\nmuch surer way to be happy in peace and light than the satisfaction of any<br \/>\ndesire. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">17 October 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'><a name=\"176\">176<\/a> \u2013 When I look back on my past life, I see that if I had not failed<br \/>\nand suffered, I would have lost my life&#8217;s supreme blessings; yet at the time of<br \/>\nthe suffering and failure, I was vexed with the sense of calamity. Because we<br \/>\ncannot see anything but the one fact under our noses, therefore we indulge in<br \/>\nall these <span class=\"SpellE\">snifflings<\/span> and <span class=\"SpellE\">clamours<\/span>.<br \/>\nBe silent, ye foolish hearts! Slay the ego, learn to see and feel vastly and<br \/>\nuniversally. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>177 \u2013 The perfect cosmic vision and cosmic sentiment is<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 263<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>the cure of all error and suffering; but most men succeed only in<br \/>\nenlarging the range of their ego. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<i><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>What is \u201cthe cosmic vision and cosmic sentiment\u201d and<br \/>\nhow can they be attained? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>This simply means the vision of the whole<br \/>\nearth at the same time and the sentiment which is the result of this vision of<br \/>\nthe whole. This whole contains all things at the same time, light and darkness,<br \/>\nsuffering and pleasure, happiness and unhappiness, and all together makes a<br \/>\nvibration of adoration turned towards the Divine, just as all sounds heard<br \/>\ntogether make the supreme invocation to the Divine: OM. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">18 October 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'><a name=\"178\">178<\/a> \u2013 Men say and think \u201cFor my country!\u201d, \u201cFor humanity!\u201d, \u201cFor the world!\u201d,<br \/>\nbut they really mean \u201cFor myself seen in my country!\u201d, \u201cFor myself seen in<br \/>\nhumanity!\u201d, \u201cFor myself imaged to my fancy as the world!\u201d. That may be an<br \/>\nenlargement, but it is not liberation. To be at large and to be in a large<br \/>\nprison are not one condition of freedom. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>To be free, one must come out of the<br \/>\nprison. The prison is the ego, the sense of separate personality. To be free,<br \/>\none must unite consciously and totally with the Supreme and through this<br \/>\nidentification break the limits of the ego and eradicate the very existence of<br \/>\nthe ego by <span class=\"SpellE\">universalising<\/span> oneself, even though the <span class=\"SpellE\">individualisation<\/span> of the consciousness is preserved. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">19 October 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'><a name=\"179\">179<\/a> \u2013 Live for God in thy <span class=\"SpellE\">neighbour<\/span>, God in<br \/>\nthyself, God in thy country and the country of thy foeman, God<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 264<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";color:blue'><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:\"Courier New\";color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>in humanity, God in tree and stone and animal, God in the world and<br \/>\noutside the world, then art thou on the straight path to liberation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>There is nothing to add. It is true \u2013<br \/>\nevery obviously true \u2013 and to be sure, you must experience it, for only<br \/>\nexperience is absolutely convincing. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">21 October 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'><a name=\"180\">180<\/a> \u2013 There are lesser and larger eternities; for eternity is a term of<br \/>\nthe soul and can exist in Time as well as exceeding it. When the Scriptures say<br \/>\n\u201c<\/span><span class=\"SpellE\"><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&#347;&#257;&#347;vat&#299;h<\/span><\/i><\/span><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> <span class=\"SpellE\">sam&#257;h<\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>\u201d, they mean for a<br \/>\nlong space and permanence of time or a hardly measurable <span class=\"SpellE\">aeon<\/span>;<br \/>\nonly God Absolute has the absolute eternity. Yet when one goes within, one sees<br \/>\nthat all things are secretly eternal; there is no end, neither was there ever a<br \/>\nbeginning. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.5in;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>How can one experience eternity? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>By uniting with the Eternal, that is to<br \/>\nsay, with the Divine. &nbsp;<span style='color:blue'><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">23 October 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'><a name=\"181\">181<\/a> \u2013 When thou <span class=\"SpellE\">callest<\/span> another a fool, as<br \/>\nthou must, sometimes, yet do not forget that thou thyself hast been the supreme<br \/>\nfool in humanity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>182 \u2013 God loves to play the fool in season; man does it in season and<br \/>\nout of season. It is the only difference. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>For some years, almost all our children, big or small, have been in the<br \/>\nhabit of always using vulgar words<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 265<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:\"Courier New\";color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>in their everyday speech. For example, they punctuate every sentence<br \/>\nwith words like \u201cidiot\u201d, \u201cfool\u201d, etc\u2026 and other similar Indian terms, without<br \/>\nany bad intention. How can we help them to get rid of this bad habit which has<br \/>\nbecome so common? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The only remedy is to learn to think<br \/>\nbefore you speak and to say only the words that are absolutely indispensable to<br \/>\nexpress your thought. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>The less you speak <i>the better<\/i>. And if it is indispensable to communicate something to<br \/>\nanyone else, it would be wise to speak only the words that are indispensable,<br \/>\nno more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">24 October 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'><a name=\"183\">183<\/a> \u2013 In the Buddhists\u2019 view to have saved an ant from drowning is a<br \/>\ngreater work than to have founded an empire. There is a truth in the idea, but<br \/>\na truth that can easily be exaggerated. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>184 \u2013 To exalt one virtue, \u2013 compassion even, \u2013 unduly above all others<br \/>\nis to cover up with one&#8217;s hand the eyes of wisdom. God moves always towards a<br \/>\nharmony. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Any exaggeration, any exclusiveness, is a<br \/>\nlack of balance and a breach of harmony, and therefore an error in one who<br \/>\nseeks perfection.
