Naturally, this is wrong. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Idealists who refuse to be the slaves of<br \/>\nMatter need not be proponents of this philosophy and can, by their idealism,<br \/>\nhelp men to be no more the slaves of material desires.<br \/>\n<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;text-indent:.5in;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">22 September 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><font size=\"2\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><a name=\"157\">157<\/a> \u2013 Thus said Ramakrishna and thus said Vivekananda. God manifest in a human being; but behind<br \/>\nthere is God in His infinite impersonality and His universal Personality. And<br \/>\nwhat was Vivekananda? Those disciplines which begin with freedom are only for the<br \/>\nmighty ones who are naturally free or in former lives have founded their<br \/>\nfreedom. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>164 \u2013 Those who are deficient in the free, full and intelligent<br \/>\nobservation of a self-imposed law, must be placed in subjection to the will of<br \/>\nothers. This is one principal cause of the subjection of nations. After their<br \/>\ndisturbing egoism has been trampled under the feet of a master, they are given<br \/>\nor, if they have force in them, attain a fresh chance of deserving liberty by<br \/>\nliberty. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>What are these disciplines which \u201cbegin with freedom\u201d that Sri <span class=\"SpellE\">Aurobindo<\/span> speaks of here? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>I suppose that Sri <span class=\"SpellE\">Aurobindo<\/span><br \/>\nis referring to the various disciplines of initiation <span class=\"SpellE\">practised<\/span><br \/>\nin the various initiatory schools in the days when they had some importance and<br \/>\nauthority. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Our age has become very materialistic and<br \/>\nno longer gives the same importance and authority to these schools.<br \/>\n<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><font size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>30 September 1969 <\/span><br \/>\n<\/font> <\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'><a name=\"165\">165<\/a> \u2013 To observe the law we have imposed on ourselves rather than the<br \/>\nlaw of others is what is meant by liberty in our unregenerate condition. But if an omnipotent supra-moral Will<br \/>\nand Intelligence governs the world, it is surely impossible to resist Him; our<br \/>\nresistance would only serve His ends and really be dictated by Him. Is it not<br \/>\nbetter then, instead of condemning or denying, to study and understand Him? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\";font-style:italic'>174 \u2013<sub> <\/sub>If we would understand God, we must renounce our<br \/>\negoistic and ignorant human standards or else ennoble and <span class=\"SpellE\">universalise<\/span><br \/>\nthem. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>To the human way of understanding, the<br \/>\nworld is terribly immoral, full of suffering and ugliness, especially since the<br \/>\nappearance of the human race. So it is difficult for the human consciousness to<br \/>\naccept that this world could be the work of a personal God, because for man it<br \/>\nseems to be the work of an omnipotent monster. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>But Sri <span class=\"SpellE\">Aurobindo<\/span><br \/>\nadds that it is better to try to understand instead of condemning. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>And surely the best way to understand is<br \/>\nto unite with this Supreme Consciousness so as to see as It sees and understand<br \/>\nas It understands.
