Will these things not<br \/>\nbecome obstacles? <\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Personal will and power of choice are<br \/>\nnecessary qualities for those who live in the ordinary ignorance and illusion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>True self-giving to the Divine of course<br \/>\nmeans their surrender. But unfortunately, many people live in the illusion that<br \/>\nthey have entirely given themselves to the Divine, and yet preserve in<br \/>\nthemselves a very active ego which prevents them from clearly perceiving the<br \/>\nDivine Will; if these people abandon their personal will and discernment, they<br \/>\nare in danger of becoming incoherent and erratic. <i> <\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>You must first acquire a perfect sincerity<br \/>\nin order to be sure of not deceiving yourself, and you must have clear evidence<br \/>\nthat it is truly the Divine Will which moves and guides you. <i> <\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<p><\/span><i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">22 December 1969<\/font><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><a name=\"248\">248<\/a> \u2013 Men in the world have two lights, duty and principle; but he who<br \/>\nhas passed over to God, has done with both and replaced them by God&#8217;s will. Care not if the world passes over thy body and its shrapnel<br \/>\ntear thee to pieces and its cavalry trample thy limbs into shapeless mire by<br \/>\nthe wayside; for the mind was always a simulacrum and the body a carcass. The<br \/>\nspirit liberated from its casings ranges and triumphs. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>This is to tell us that the only choice to<br \/>\nbe made is to unite with the Divine in spite of everything, even the opposition<br \/>\nof the whole world, because the world only has an apparent strength in the<br \/>\nmental and the physical, whereas the Divine possesses the eternal power of<br \/>\nTruth. &nbsp;<i><\/i><\/span><i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><font size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>26 December 1969 <\/span><br \/>\n<\/font> <\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<b><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><a name=\"252\">252<\/a> \u2013 If thou think defeat is the end of thee, then go not forth to<br \/>\nfight, even though thou be the stronger. For Fate is not purchased by any man<br \/>\nnor is Power bound over to her possessors. Say<br \/>\nrather that God is circling about towards His object.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>254 \u2013 Foiled by the world, thou turnest to seize upon God. If the world<br \/>\nis stronger than thou, thinkest thou God is weaker? Turn to Him rather for His<br \/>\nbidding and for strength to fulfil it. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><b><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Why does God need to \u201ccircle about towards His object?\u201d He can easily<br \/>\nreach it immediately if He wants to, and make everybody&#8217;s work easier and more<br \/>\neffective. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Surely Sri Aurobindo did not say that<br \/>\n\u201cGod\u201d <span>needs<\/span> to circle about, because<br \/>\nhe is all-powerful; but his power is not an arbitrary one as men understand it.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>To begin to understand anything about<br \/>\nthis, one must know and feel that in the whole universe<br \/>\n<span>there is nothing<\/span> which is not an expression of his omnipotent and<br \/>\nomnipresent will; and only by consciously uniting with Him can one begin to<br \/>\nunderstand this, not mentally, but through an experience of consciousness and<br \/>\nvision.<i><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>In his ordinary consciousness, even with<br \/>\nthe widest intelligence, man can only grasp an infinitesimal part of creation<br \/>\nand so he cannot understand it and still less judge it.<i><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>And if we want to hasten the<br \/>\ntransformation of the world, the best we can do is to give ourselves without<br \/>\nreserve or calculation to That which knows. &nbsp;<i><\/i><\/span><i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><i><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">28 December 1969<br \/>\n<\/font> <\/span><\/i><br \/>\n<font size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/font><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><a name=\"255\">255<\/a> \u2013 So long as a cause has on its side one soul that is intangible in<br \/>\nfaith, it cannot perish.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>256 \u2013 Reason gives me no basis for this faith, thou<\/span><\/b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>murmurest. The believer is often more plagued by doubt than the<br \/>\nmost inveterate sceptic. He persists because there is something subconscient in<br \/>\nhim which knows.
