I don&#8217;t know if you have understood it, but there is<br \/>\na central fault in the question of that lady; she makes God or the Divine a<br \/>\npersonality quite independent of his creation. She should have said, \u201cSomeone<br \/>\nwho, having the power of creation, has created a world like this, truly, he must<br \/>\nbe sadistic\u201d, and she would have been right, wouldn&#8217;t she ?.. The question is<br \/>\nbadly put, because the Divine spoken about here is not the true Divine, it is<br \/>\nthe Divine of religion \u2013 and of a certain kind of religion \u2013 but it is not the<br \/>\nDivine as He is at all. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>\u201cAll is from the Divine; but the One<br \/>\nConsciousness, the Supreme has not created the world directly out of itself; a<br \/>\nPower has gone out from it and has descended through many gradations of its<br \/>\nworkings and passed through many agents. There are many creators or rather \u2018<span class=\"SpellE\">formateurs<\/span>\u2019, form-makers, who have presided over the<br \/>\ncreation of the world. They are intermediary agents and I prefer to call them \u2018<span class=\"SpellE\">formateurs<\/span>\u2019 and not \u2018creators\u2019; for what they have done is<br \/>\nto give the form and turn and nature to matter. There have been many, and some<br \/>\nhave formed things harmonious and benignant and some have shaped things<br \/>\nmischievous and evil. It<br \/>\nis a mistake to make `matter&#8217; a synonym for obscurity and ignorance. And the<br \/>\nmaterial world too is not the only world in which we live: it is rather one of<br \/>\nmany in which we exist simultaneously, and in one way the most important of<br \/>\nthem all. For this world of matter is the point of concentration of all the<br \/>\nworlds; it is the field of <span class=\"SpellE\">concretisation<\/span> of all the<br \/>\nworlds; it is the place where all the worlds will have to manifest. So you say that without unhappiness there would<br \/>\nbe no variety in the world? But it is a cure, it is not a cause. You are asked here what the cause<br \/>\nis. You agree ?&#8230;You are not quite sure of it ?&#8230; Then you are<br \/>\nsatisfied with suffering ? I don&#8217;t know, perhaps it has its purpose. But, you<br \/>\nsee, as long as one is satisfied with a thing, there are many chances that it<br \/>\nstays. We have been told in the more or less sacred scriptures that suffering<br \/>\ncomes from ignorance; hence if you do not think of getting rid of suffering, it<br \/>\nmeans that you want to keep the ignorance also? That becomes very difficult. It<br \/>\nis like the artist to whom someone spoke of the future world which would be<br \/>\nmade all of light, and he said, \u201cThen I won&#8217;t be able to paint any longer\u201d and<br \/>\nhe was miserable!
