But to those who possess the necessary basis and foundation, we say,<br \/>\non the contrary, `Aspire and draw.&#8217; For they would be able to receive and yet<br \/>\nnot be upset by the forces descending from<\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> <i>the Divine.\u201d<\/i> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"2\">Questions and Answers 1929 (14 April)<br \/>\n<\/font> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Why does the divine force upset people? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Because it is too<br \/>\nstrong for them. It is as though you were in the midst of a big cyclone. It<br \/>\nhappens at times that the wind is so violent that you are not able to stand \u2013<br \/>\nyou have to lie down and wait till it blows over. Now, the divine forces are a<br \/>\nthousand times stronger than a cyclonic wind. If you do not have in you a very<br \/>\nwide receptivity, an extremely solid basis of calmness, of equality of soul and<br \/>\ninner peace, they come and carry you away like a gale and you cannot resist<br \/>\nthem. It is the same thing with light; some people get a pain in the eyes when<br \/>\nthey look at the sun and are obliged to put on dark glasses because sunlight is<br \/>\ntoo strong for them. But this is merely sunlight. When you are able to look at<br \/>\nthe supramental light, it appears to you so brilliant that sunlight seems like<br \/>\na black stain in comparison. One must have strong eyes and a solid brain to&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 96<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-US\"><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>bear that, one must be well prepared,<br \/>\nestablished in something extremely calm and vast \u2013 it is as though one had such<br \/>\na strong basis of tranquillity that when the storm passes, when the light comes<br \/>\nwith a great intensity, one is able to remain immobile and receive what one can<br \/>\nwithout being knocked over. But there is not one being in a million who can do<br \/>\nit. Only those who have had a foretaste of inner experience can know what this<br \/>\nmeans. But even if you enter consciously into the psychic, it is dazzling; and<br \/>\nit is within your reach because it is your own psychic being, and yet it is so<br \/>\ndifferent from your external consciousness that the first time you enter it<br \/>\nconsciously, it seems to you truly dazzling, something infinitely more<br \/>\nbrilliant than the most brilliant sunlight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>The psychic is what may be called \u201cthe Divine<br \/>\nwithin the reach of man\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Are there any signs which indicate that<br \/>\none is ready for the path, especially if one has no spiritual teacher? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Yes, the most<br \/>\nimportant indication is a perfect equality of soul in all circumstances. It is<br \/>\nan absolutely indispensable basis; something very quiet, calm, peaceful, the<br \/>\nfeeling of a great force. Not the quietness that comes from inertia but the<br \/>\nsensation of a concentrated power which keeps you always steady, whatever<br \/>\nhappens, even in circumstances which may appear to you the most terrible in<br \/>\nyour life. That is the first sign. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>A second sign: you<br \/>\nfeel completely imprisoned in your ordinary normal consciousness, as in<br \/>\nsomething extremely hard, something suffocating and intolerable, as though you<br \/>\nhad to pierce a hole in a brass wall. And the torture becomes almost<br \/>\nunbearable, it is stifling; there is an inner effort to break through and you<br \/>\ncannot manage to break through. This also is one of the first signs. It means<br \/>\nthat your inner consciousness has reached a point where its outer mould is much<br \/>\ntoo small for it \u2013 the mould of ordinary life, of ordinary activities, ordinary<br \/>\nrelations,&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 97<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>all that becomes so small, so petty; you feel<br \/>\nwithin you a force to break all that. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>There is yet<br \/>\nanother sign: when you concentrate and have an aspiration, you feel something<br \/>\ncoming down into you, you receive an answer; you feel a light, a peace, a force<br \/>\ncoming down; and almost immediately \u2013 you need not wait or spend a very long<br \/>\ntime \u2013 nothing but an inner aspiration, a call, and the answer comes. This also<br \/>\nmeans that the relation has been well established. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>If there is an upsetting when the force<br \/>\ndescends, does it not mean that the vital is not ready and should it not be<br \/>\nforced to be ready? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>How can you force<br \/>\nit? It escapes through your fingers, so to say. Your will thinks it has caught<br \/>\nit, and it eludes you. It is difficult to control. And force it to what? To be<br \/>\nready?&#8230;All that you will be able to get from it is that it will become inert,<br \/>\nthat is, it will hide in a corner, not stir any longer, and let the storm pass!<br \/>\nBecause for it the contact with the divine forces is like a storm. And when it<br \/>\nsees that the crisis is over, it will react: \u201cHere we are! Now, it is my turn!\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0 <\/span>If you are upset, it means that you have<br \/>\nstill much work to do upon your vital before it can be ready, it means there is<br \/>\na weakness somewhere. For some, the weakness is in the mind. I knew a boy in <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:  \"Times New Roman\"'>France<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> who was a fine<br \/>\nmusician, he used to play the violin admirably. But his brain was not very big,<br \/>\nit was just big enough to help him in his music, nothing more. He used to come<br \/>\nto our spiritual meetings and, all of a sudden, he had the experience of the<br \/>\ninfinite in the finite; it was an absolutely true experience; in the finite<br \/>\nindividual came the experience of the infinite. But this upset the boy so much<br \/>\nthat he could make nothing at all of it! He could not even play his music any<br \/>\nlonger. The experience had to be stopped because it was too powerful for him.<br \/>\nThis is an instance where the mind was too weak.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 98&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>He had the experience, truly, not the idea<br \/>\n(ideas are generally something foreign to all men). One must have the<br \/>\nexperience before the idea; for most men think only with words \u2013 if you put two<br \/>\ncontradictory ideas together, they no longer understand, while the experience<br \/>\nis quite possible. So the mind must be a little wide, a little supple and<br \/>\nquiet, and instead of feeling immediately that everything you were thinking of<br \/>\nis now escaping you, you wait very quietly for something in your head to begin<br \/>\nto understand the content of the experience. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>There are people \u2013 many \u2013 who are weak<br \/>\nin their vital being. When they have this sensation of infinity, eternity, in<br \/>\ntheir very small person, in their very little strength, it is so different from<br \/>\nthe impression they have constantly, that they understand nothing whatever.<br \/>\nThen they fall sick or they begin to talk deliriously or to shout and dance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>But if you are absolutely sincere and<br \/>\nlook at yourself clearsightedly, this cannot happen to you, for an experience<br \/>\nwhich comes inopportunely like that is always the result of some pride or<br \/>\nambition or some lack of balance within, due to having neglected one part of<br \/>\nthe being for the benefit of another. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Those who think they can advance in yoga<br \/>\nby leaving their body completely inert, their vital asleep and their mind in a<br \/>\nkind of stupefaction (for often, what they call \u201csilence\u201d is just<br \/>\nstupefaction), get completely upset, you may be sure, when an experience comes<br \/>\nto them. They lose their head, they do extravagant things or otherwise<br \/>\nsomething very unfortunate happens to them&#8230;One must have a solid<br \/>\nwell-balanced body, a well-controlled vital and a mind organised, supple, logical;<br \/>\nthen, if you are in a state of aspiration and you receive an answer, all your<br \/>\nbeing will feel enriched, enlarged, splendid, and you will be perfectly happy<br \/>\nand you will not spill your cup because it is too full, like a clumsy fellow<br \/>\nwho does not know how to hold a full tumbler. It is like that, you see, it is<br \/>\nas if you had a small vase there, quite small, which will remain small if you<br \/>\ndo not take care to make it bigger; then if all of a sudden it is filled<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 99<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>up with something<br \/>\nwhich is too strong, everything overflows!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>When the consciousness feels imprisoned<br \/>\nwithin its too narrow external mould, what should be done? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>You must<br \/>\nparticularly not be violent, for if you are violent, you will come out of it<br \/>\ntired, exhausted, without any result. You must concentrate all the forces of<br \/>\naspiration. If you are conscious of the inner flame, you should put into this<br \/>\nflame all that you find strongest in you by way of aspiration, of a call, and hold<br \/>\nyourself as quiet as you can, calling, with a deep reliance that the answer<br \/>\nwill come; and when you are in this state, with your aspiration and<br \/>\nconcentrated force, with your inner flame, press gently upon this kind of outer<br \/>\ncrust, without violence, but with insistence, as long as you can, without<br \/>\ngetting agitated, irritated or excited. You must be perfectly quiet, must call<br \/>\nand push. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>It will not succeed the first time. You must<br \/>\nbegin again as many times as is necessary, but suddenly, one day&#8230;you are on<br \/>\nthe other side! Then you emerge in an ocean of light. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>If you fight, if you are restless, if<br \/>\nyou struggle, you will get nothing at all; and if you become irritable you will<br \/>\nonly get a headache, that is all. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, it is that. To gather together all<br \/>\nyour power of aspiration, make of it something intensely concentrated, in an<br \/>\nabsolute tranquillity, to be conscious of your inner flame and throw into it<br \/>\nall you can that it may burn ever higher and higher, and then call with your<br \/>\nconsciousness and, slowly, push. You are sure to succeed one day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Mother reads a comment made by someone <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>during her talk in 1929: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>\u201cIn the case of some persons who turn to<br \/>\nthe Divine it happens that every material prop or everything they are fond of<br \/>\nis removed from their life. Your entire life,<br \/>\nall your activities, all your movements continue, if circumstances so arrange<br \/>\nthings, but they all seem to you utterly unimportant, this is no longer the<br \/>\nmeaning of your existence. I believe this is the first sign. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>There may be<br \/>\nanother; for example, the feeling that everything is different, of living<br \/>\ndifferently, of a light in the mind which was not there before, of a peace in<br \/>\nthe heart which was not there before. That does make a change; but the positive<br \/>\nchange usually comes later, very rarely does it come at first except in a flash<br \/>\nat the time of conversion when one has decided to take up the spiritual life.<br \/>\nSometimes, it begins like a great illumination, a deep joy enters into you; but<br \/>\ngenerally, afterwards this goes into the background, for there are too many<br \/>\nimperfections still persisting in you&#8230;It is not disgust, it is not contempt,<br \/>\nbut everything appears to you so uninteresting that it is truly not worth the<br \/>\ntrouble of attending to it. For instance, when you are in the midst of certain<br \/>\nphysical conditions, pleasant or unpleasant (the two extremes meet), you say to<br \/>\nyourself, \u201cIt was so important to me, all that? But it has no importance at<br \/>\nall!\u201d You have the impression that you have truly turned over to the other<br \/>\nside. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>Some imagine that the sign of spiritual life<br \/>\nis the capacity to sit in a corner and meditate! That is a very, very common<br \/>\nidea. I do not want to be severe, but most people who make much of their<br \/>\ncapacity for meditation \u2013 I do not think they meditate even for one minute out<br \/>\nof one hour. When it has become a<br \/>\nnatural thing, without any glory about it, you may begin to tell yourself that<br \/>\nyou are making progress. Those who talk about it and think that this gives them<br \/>\na superiority over other human beings, you may be sure, are most of the time in<br \/>\na state of complete inertia. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>It is very difficult to meditate. There are<br \/>\nall kinds of meditations&#8230;You may take an idea and follow it to arrive at a<br \/>\ngiven result \u2013 this is an active meditation; people who want to solve a problem<br \/>\nor to write, meditate in this way without knowing that they are meditating.<br \/>\nOthers sit down and try to concentrate on something without following an idea \u2013<br \/>\nsimply to concentrate on a point in order to intensify one&#8217;s power of<br \/>\nconcentration; and this brings about what usually happens when you concentrate<br \/>\nupon a point: if you succeed in gathering your capacity for concentration<br \/>\nsufficiently upon a point whether mental, vital or physical, at a given moment<br \/>\nyou pass through and enter into another consciousness. Others still try to<br \/>\ndrive out from their head all movements, ideas, reflexes, reactions and to<br \/>\narrive at a truly silent tranquillity. This is extremely difficult; there are<br \/>\npeople who have tried for twenty-five years and not succeeded, for it is<br \/>\nsomewhat like taking a bull by the horns. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>There is another kind of meditation which<br \/>\nconsists in being as quiet as one can be but without trying to stop all<br \/>\nthoughts, for there are thoughts which are purely mechanical and if you try to<br \/>\nstop these you will need years, and into the bargain you will not be sure of<br \/>\nthe result; instead of that you gather together all your consciousness and<br \/>\nremain as quiet and peaceful as possible, you detach yourself from external<br \/>\nthings as though they do not interest you at all, and all of a sudden, you<br \/>\nbrighten the flame of aspiration and throw into it everything that comes to you<br \/>\nso that the flame may rise higher and higher, higher and higher; you identify<br \/>\nyourself with it and you go up to the extreme point of your consciousness and<br \/>\naspiration, thinking of nothing else \u2013 simply, an aspiration which mounts,<br \/>\nmounts,&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 104<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoPlainText\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-US\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><span>\u00a0<\/span>mounts, without thinking a minute of the<br \/>\nresult, of what may happen and especially of what may not, and above all<br \/>\nwithout desiring that something may come \u2013 simply, the joy of an aspiration<br \/>\nwhich mounts and mounts and mounts, intensifying itself more and more in a<br \/>\nconstant concentration. And there I may assure you that what happens is the<br \/>\nbest that can happen. That is, it is the maximum of your possibilities which is<br \/>\nrealised when you do this. These possibilities may be very different according<br \/>\nto individuals. What happens here is<br \/>\nexceptional \u2013 in the other meditation <i>[at<br \/>\nthe Ashram<\/i>] I gathered together the consciousness of all who were present<br \/>\nand, with the power of aspiration, lifted it towards the Divine, that is, made<br \/>\neach one of you progress a little. Here, on the other hand, I take you as you<br \/>\nare; each one of you comes saying, \u201cHere we are with our whole day&#8217;s<br \/>\nactivities, we were busy with our body, here it is, we offer to you all our<br \/>\nmovements, just as they were, just as we are.\u201d And my work is to unify all<br \/>\nthat, make of it a homogeneous mass and, in answer to this offering (which each<br \/>\none can make in his own way), to open every consciousness, widen the<br \/>\nreceptivity, make a unity of this receptivity and bring down the Force. So at<br \/>\nthat moment each one of you, if you are very quiet and attentive, will surely<br \/>\nreceive something.
