This is solicitude. For example, every feeling of independence, of the need to look<br \/>\nafter oneself, of not wanting to submit to any discipline, any rule, of<br \/>\nstanding on one&#8217;s own feet, not wanting any support except one&#8217;s own, and being<br \/>\nfree, independent in one&#8217;s movements: this is to stand back from the divine<br \/>\nsolicitude. To want to do what one likes, one&#8217;s own will, in quite a free and<br \/>\nindependent way \u2013 \u201conly doing what I want\u201d \u2013 this is to stand back from the<br \/>\ndivine solicitude. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>One does it quite frequently! <\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>(<i>To<br \/>\na child<\/i>) You? <\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Sometimes when we ask you a question, you do not understand it. Is it<br \/>\nbecause of a fault in our language or in the consciousness? <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Usually the consciousness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>There is an experience like this: some<br \/>\npeople may speak to me for half an hour, I don&#8217;t understand a tenth part of<br \/>\nwhat they say; there are others who speak very softly, very slowly, very<br \/>\ngently, and I don&#8217;t miss a single word. In one case, it is&#8230;<span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>it does not depend on the elocution and it<br \/>\ndoes not depend on the expression, because I am used to understanding people<br \/>\neven when they express themselves badly. I have been used to this for years. It<br \/>\nis not that. It is that either they do not think clearly, that is, rather<br \/>\npositively; those who think quite clearly, no matter what they say or how they<br \/>\nsay it, I understand them; while with those who do not think clearly it becomes<br \/>\nmore difficult; and then, those who are in the habit of disguising their<br \/>\nthought, who are not frank, who don&#8217;t say exactly what they think or feel, who<br \/>\ntry to present things in a particular way, here, they<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><font size=\"3\">Page &#8211; 375<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"WW-PlainText\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>\n\t\t<span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><br \/>\n\t\t<font size=\"3\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>may give me long speeches, I understand<br \/>\nnothing. And I know what they are thinking but I don&#8217;t know what they are<br \/>\nsaying. This happen very frequently: people talk to me, I hear nothing. It<br \/>\nhappen like that, I don&#8217;t hear&#8230;<span>\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWhat?<br \/>\nwhat? what?\u201d And then, when it recurs twice or thrice, I am sure that it is<br \/>\nthis kind of thing, you know: they are not saying what they think, they are<br \/>\nsaying something with the intention of making some sort of impression, you see.<br \/>\nThey say this so that I may think so. So there it is useless, I don&#8217;t hear<br \/>\nthem. There are different degrees. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Is that all? In fact there are some which not<br \/>\nonly always seek the Divine but have an intense aspiration, and one is not aware<br \/>\nof them. The psychic being is like that, and it is always there. But one<br \/>\nbecomes aware of it only very rarely. It is so veiled, you see. I spoke a while<br \/>\nago of the outer crust. It is really like a crust. It is something hard, thick,<br \/>\nwithout any transparency, which lets no vibrations pass, and one lives so<br \/>\nconstantly inside this that one is not even aware that there is something else.<br \/>\nBut there is, there is indeed right in the depths of the being \u2013 specially of<br \/>\nthose who are predestined, that&#8217;s understood, but still \u2013 a being which not<br \/>\nonly presides over one&#8217;s destiny, not only aspires for identification with the<br \/>\nDivine, but has the power to govern the circumstances of life and, in fact, to<br \/>\norganise them in spite of the outer will which very often revolts and does not<br \/>\nwant the circumstances as this inner consciousness \u2013 which is fully<br \/>\nclear-sighted \u2013 has organised them. And it is only much later, when one becomes<br \/>\naware of it and looks back at his life, that one realises that all this was<br \/>\nwonderfully organised with a complete clear-sightedness of what was necessary,<br \/>\nin order to lead him there, just where he had to go. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Most often the things which you took for<br \/>\naccidents or misfortunes or even tragedies or even for the blows of fate, for<br \/>\nattacks of the adverse forces, all this, almost all without any exception, was<br \/>\na marvellously perspicacious and admirably executed plan to lead you just where<br \/>\nyou had to go by the shortest road. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Of course this is not always absolute,<br \/>\nbecause it depends on the importance of the individual in relation to the<br \/>\nimportance of the surrounding circumstances.
