And as the consciousness<br \/>\ngrows, they realise the kind of monstrous hell life is <\/span><span lang=\"EL\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&#8213; <\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>life as it is. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;And it is only when one<br \/>\nbecomes conscious of <span><i>that towards which<\/i><\/span> this life leads,<br \/>\nthat one can accept it and understand it. You must live it and<br \/>\nthen you will know what it is. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;It is what is called<br \/>\nAnanda in Sanskrit. And we have often said before that to know this Ananda, one<br \/>\nmust first have completely renounced all human pleasures, to begin with, for so<br \/>\nlong as a human pleasure delights you, you are not in the right state to know<br \/>\nthe Ananda. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;It may come to you and<br \/>\nyou will not even be aware of it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:3.0pt;line-height:150%'><span><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>\u201cA spiritual Truth and Right<br \/>\nhave convicted the good and evil of this world of imperfection or of falsehood<br \/>\nand unveiled a supreme good\u2026. But behind all these and in them he has felt a<br \/>\nDivinity who is all these things, a Bringer of Light, a Guide and All-Knower, a<br \/>\nMaster of Force, a Giver of Bliss, Friend, Helper, Father, Mother, Playmate in<br \/>\nthe world-game, an absolute Master of his being, his soul\u2019s Beloved and Lover.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\" style='margin:0;text-align:right;line-height:150%'>\n<span><i><span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><br \/>\n<font size=\"2\">Ibid.,<br \/>\nA. 120 <\/font> <\/span><\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<font size=\"2\"><br \/>\n<span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.5in;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Can the Godhead be all these<br \/>\nthings at once for anybody? <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><b><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Yes, and many more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;This is only a very brief<br \/>\ndescription!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;But here too, if one<br \/>\nwants to have this experience, one must <\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'><br \/>\n<font size=\"2\">\u00b9\u201cA<br \/>\nBliss has invaded him and shown that it can make suffering and sorrow<br \/>\nimpossible and turn pain itself into divine pleasure.\u201d ( Ibid., p. 120)<\/font><\/span><font size=\"2\"><\/b><\/font><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page \u2013 121<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>not seek in life and among men for these relationships, because<br \/>\nif one seeks them in the ordinary life, as ordinary relationships, one becomes<br \/>\nincapable of feeling them exactly as the Divine can give them. And usually,<br \/>\nmost people, even those who have a living soul, seek these relations with the<br \/>\nDivine only after they have had the most bitter and disappointing experiences<br \/>\nin their search for human relationships. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;This makes them lose much<br \/>\ntime and wastes a lot of energy. And usually, they are already quite worn out<br \/>\nand spent when they reach the state in which they are capable of having these<br \/>\nrelations in all their splendour with the divine Presence. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;That means much time lost<br \/>\nand much wastage of energy; but it would seem that very few people can go<br \/>\nstraight avoiding all these roundabout ways. Mostly, when they are told that<br \/>\nthere is a divine Joy and a divine Plenitude which far all they can imagine in<br \/>\nordinary life, they don\u2019t believe it; and to believe it they must have, as I<br \/>\nsaid, gone through a painful experience of all that is false, deceptive and<br \/>\ndisappointing in ordinary relationships. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;It is said that example<br \/>\nis the best teacher, but in fact there are very few who care to follow an<br \/>\nexample especially when the examples are a little too far beyond them. They all<br \/>\nwant to have their own experience; they have the right to it, but that makes<br \/>\nthe path interminable. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Sweet Mother, if one needs<br \/>\nsomething, like a mother\u2019s affection or some help, how can one feel it in the<br \/>\nDivine, according to one\u2019s need? <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><b><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>What exactly do you want to say? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>If, for example, one wants to<br \/>\nknow something or one needs guidance, or something else, how can one have it<br \/>\nfrom the Divine, according to one\u2019s need?<\/span><\/i><\/b><i><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;line-height:150%'>\n<span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 122<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>By asking the Divine for it. If you do not ask Him, how can you<br \/>\nhave it? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;If you turn to the Divine<br \/>\nand have full trust and ask Him, you will get what you need not necessarily<br \/>\nwhat you imagine you need; but the true thing you need, you will get. But you<br \/>\nmust ask Him for it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;You must make the<br \/>\nexperiment sincerely; you must not endeavour to get it by all sorts of external<br \/>\nmeans and then expect the Divine to give it to you, without even having asked<br \/>\nHim. Indeed, when you want somebody to give you something, you ask him for it,<br \/>\ndon\u2019t you? And why do you expect the Divine to give it to you without your<br \/>\nhaving asked Him for it? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;In the ordinary<br \/>\nconsciousness the movement is just the opposite. You assume something, saying,<br \/>\n\u201cI need this, I need this relationship, I need this affection, I need this<br \/>\nknowledge, etc. Well, the Divine ought to give it to me, otherwise He is not<br \/>\nthe Divine.\u201d That is to say, you reverse the problem completely. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;First of all, you say, \u201cI<br \/>\nneed.\u201d Do you know whether you truly need it or whether it is only an<br \/>\nimpression you have or a desire or quite an ignorant movement? First point: you<br \/>\nknow nothing about it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;Second point: it is<br \/>\nprecisely your own will you want to impose upon the Divine, telling Him, \u201cI<br \/>\nneed this.\u201d And then you don\u2019t even ask Him for it: \u201cGive it to me.\u201d You say,<br \/>\n\u201cI need it. Therefore, since I need it, it must e to me, quite naturally,<br \/>\nspontaneously; it\u2019s the Divine\u2019s job to give me all that I need.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;But if it so happens that<br \/>\ntruly you don\u2019t know what you need and it is merely an illusion and not a truth<br \/>\nand that, into the bargain, you ask it from life around you and don\u2019t turn to<br \/>\nthe Divine, don\u2019t create any relationship between yourself and Him, don\u2019t think<br \/>\nof Him or turn to Him with at least some sincerity in your attitude, then, as<br \/>\nyou ask nothing from Him, there is no reason for Him to give you anything. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;But if you ask Him, as He<br \/>\nis the Divine He knows a little<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='margin:0;text-align:center;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'>\n<span style='font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Page &#8211; 123<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"center\" style='text-align:center'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;color:blue'><\/p>\n<hr size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" align=\"center\">\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>better than you what you need; He will give you what you need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>Or else, if you insist and want<br \/>\nto impose your own will, He may give you what you want in order to enlighten<br \/>\nyou and make you conscious of your mistake, that it was truly not the thing you<br \/>\nneeded. And then you begin to protest <\/span><span lang=\"EL\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&#8213; <\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>I don\u2019t mean you personally, I<br \/>\nam speaking of all human beings <\/span><span lang=\"EL\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&#8213;<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> and you say, \u201cWhy has the Divine given me something which harms<br \/>\nme?\u201d<\/span><span lang=\"EL\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&#8213;<\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'> completely forgetting that it was you who asked for it! <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;In both cases you protest<br \/>\nall the same. If He gives you what you ask and then that brings you more harm<br \/>\nthan good, you protest. And again, if He doesn\u2019t give it, you also protest:<br \/>\n\u201cWhat! I told Him I needed it and He doesn\u2019t give it to me.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;In both cases you<br \/>\nprotest, and the poor Divine is accused. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;Only, if instead of all<br \/>\nthat, you simply have an aspiration within you, an urge, an intense ardent need<br \/>\nto find That, which you conceive more or less clearly to be the Truth of your<br \/>\nbeing, the Source of all things, the supreme Good, the Answer to all we desire,<br \/>\nthe Solution to all problems; if there is this intense need in you and you<br \/>\naspire to realise it, you won\u2019t any longer say to the Divine, \u201cGive me this,<br \/>\ngive me that\u201d, or, \u201cI need this, I must have that.\u201d You will tell Him, \u201cDo what<br \/>\nis necessary for me and lead me to the Truth of my being. Give me what Thou in<br \/>\nThy supreme Wisdom seest as the thing I need.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;And then you are sure of<br \/>\nnot being mistaken, and He will not give you something which harms you. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;There is a still higher step,<br \/>\nbut it\u2019s a little more difficult to begin with that. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style='margin:0;text-align:justify;text-indent:.25in;line-height:150%'><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&nbsp;But the first one is<br \/>\nalready a much truer approach than that of telling the Divine, \u201cI need this.<br \/>\nGive it to me.\u201d For indeed, very few people really know what they need <\/span><span lang=\"EL\" style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>&#8213; <\/span><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:\"Times New Roman\"'>very few.
