\n\t\t\tThis volume contains the talks Mother gave to the
\n\t\t\tstudents,
\n\t\t\tteachers and sadhaks of the Ashram in her "Wednesday
\n\t\t\tclasses"
\n\t\t\tof 1956. This year Mother usually began by reading
\n\t\t\tfrom her French
\n\t\t\ttranslations of two of Sri Aurobindo’s works. For
\n\t\t\tmost of the year
\n\t\t\tthe book was <\/font>
\n\t\t\tThe Synthesis of Yoga <\/i>
\n\t\t\t<\/font>(Part One, "The Yoga of
\n\t\t\tDivine
\n\t\t\tWorks"). On November 21 she took up <\/font>
\n\t\t\tThoughts and Glimpses.
\n\t\t\t<\/i><\/font>
\n\t\t\tAfter the reading Mother answered questions on the
\n\t\t\ttext or on
\n\t\t\tother subjects. These questions were either asked on
\n\t\t\tthe spot or
\n\t\t\tsubmitted to her beforehand in writing.

\n\t\t\tThe talks, conducted in French, were tape-recorded
\n\t\t\tat the time.
\n\t\t\tThey were first published in an incomplete form in
\n\t\t\tthe quarterly
\n\t\t\t<\/font>
\n\t\t\tBulletin of Physical Education <\/i><\/font>
\n\t\t\t(later <\/font>
\n\t\t\tBulletin of Sri Aurobindo
\n\t\t\tInternational Centre of Education) <\/i><\/font>
\n\t\t\tin various issues from 1956 to
\n\t\t\t1963.. The first complete edition of the French text,
\n\t\t\t<\/font>Entretiens 1956,
\n\t\t\t<\/i><\/font>
\n\t\t\twas published in 1968.BetweenMarch 1970and August
\n\t\t\t1974a new
\n\t\t\tEnglish translation, complete and in chronological
\n\t\t\torder, appeared
\n\t\t\tin the monthly journal <\/font>
\n\t\t\tMother India. <\/i><\/font>
\n\t\t\tThis complete translation was
\n\t\t\tbrought out in book-form in 1973 as <\/font>
\n\t\t\tQuestions and Answers
\n\t\t\t.1956.
\n\t\t\t<\/i><\/font>
\n\t\t\tThe present volume, number eight of the Collected
\n\t\t\tWorks of the
\n\t\t\tMother (Centenary Edition) is a revision of the 1973
\n\t\t\tedition.
