\nThe red lotus represents Sri Aurobindo, the white one represents me.
\n<\/font><\/p>\n

\nIn a general way the lotus is the flower of the Divine Wisdom, whatever its colour. But
\nred signifies the Avatar, the Divine incarnated in matter, and white signifies the Divine
\nConsciousness manifested upon earth. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nAccording to the Truth of things . . . the worlds are brought forth from the
\ndivine consciousness, from Aditi, goddess of infinite being, mother of the
\ngods, the indivisible consciousness, the Light that cannot be impaired. . . .

\nThe Divine Mother is the Consciousness and Force of the Divine – which

\naction, all movement her movement. All beings are portions of her power

\nThe word Avatara means a descent; it is a coming
\ndown of the Divine below the line which divides the
\ndivine from the human world or status. <\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nAn Avatar is an emanation of the Supreme Lord who
\nassumes a human body on earth. <\/font><\/p>\n

\nTHE MOTHER<\/font><\/p>\n

\n <\/font><\/p>\n

\nAn Avatar, roughly speaking, is one who is conscious
\nof the presence and power of the Divine born in him
\nor descended into him and governing from within his
\nwill and life and action; he feels identified inwardly
\nwith this divine power and presence. <\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nThe reason for which the Avatars descend is to raise
\nup man again and again, developing in him a higher
\nand ever-higher humanity, a greater and yet greater
\ndevelopment of divine being, bringing more and
\nmore of heaven again and again upon the earth
\nuntil our toil is done, our work accomplished and
\nSachchidananda fulfilled in all even here, even in this
\nmaterial universe.

 <\/p>\n

\nThe Avatar comes to reveal the divine nature in
\nman above this lower nature and to show what are
\nthe divine works, free, unegoistic, disinterested,
\nimpersonal, universal, full of the divine light, the
\ndivine power and the divine love. He comes as the
\ndivine personality which shall fill the consciousness
\nof the human being and replace the limited egoistic
\npersonality, so that it shall be liberated out of ego
\ninto infinity and universality, out of birth into
\nimmortality. He comes as the divine power and love
\nwhich calls men to itself, so that they may take refuge
\nin that and no longer in the insufficiency of their
\nhuman v\/ills and the strife of their human fear, wrath
\nand passion, and liberated from all this unquiet and
\nsuffering may live in the calm and bliss of the Divine.
\n<\/font><\/p>\n

\nSRI AUROBINDO <\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nSurely for the earth-consciousness the very fact that
\nthe Divine manifests himself is the greatest of all
\nsplendours. Consider the obscurity here and what it
\nwould be if the Divine did not directly intervene and
\nthe Light of Lights did not break out of the obscurity
\n\u2014 for that is the meaning of the manifestation. <\/font><\/p>\n
