\na measureless moment of the soul<\/p>\n

Again
\nreturning to these surface fields<\/p>\n

Out
\nof the timeless depths where he had sunk,<\/p>\n

He
\nheard once more the slow tread of the hours.<\/p>\n

All
\nonce perceived and lived was far away;<\/p>\n

Himself
\nwas to himself his only scene.<\/p>\n

Above
\nthe Witness and his universe<\/p>\n

He
\nstood in a realm of boundless silences<\/p>\n

Awaiting
\nthe Voice that spoke and built the worlds.<\/p>\n

A
\nlight was round him wide and absolute,<\/p>\n

A
\ndiamond purity of eternal sight;<\/p>\n

A
\nconsciousness lay still, devoid of forms,<\/p>\n

Free,
\nwordless, uncoerced<\/span> by sign
\nor rule,<\/p>\n

For
\never content with only being and bliss;<\/p>\n

A
\nsheer existence lived in its own peace<\/p>\n

On
\nthe single spirit’s bare and infinite ground.<\/p>\n

Out
\nof the sphere of Mind he had arisen,<\/p>\n

He
\nhad left the reign of Nature’s hues and shades;<\/p>\n

He
\ndwelt in his self’s colourless<\/span>
\npurity.<\/p>\n

It
\nwas a plane of undetermined spirit<\/p>\n

That
\ncould be a zero or round sum of things,<\/p>\n

A
\nstate in which all ceased and all began.<\/p>\n

All
\nit became that figures the absolute,<\/p>\n

A
\nhigh vast peak whence spirit could see the worlds,<\/p>\n

Calm’s
\nwide epiphany, wisdom’s mute home,<\/p>\n

A
\nlonely station of Omniscience,<\/p>\n

A
\ndiving-board of the Eternal’s<\/span>
\npower,<\/p>\n

A
\nwhite floor in the house of All-Delight.<\/p>\n

Here
\ncame the thought that passes beyond Thought,<\/p>\n

Here
\nthe still Voice which our listening cannot hear,<\/p>\n

The
\nKnowledge by which the Knower is the Known, <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n

The
\nLove in which Beloved and Lover are one.<\/p>\n

All
\nstood in an original plenitude,<\/p>\n

Hushed
\nand fulfilled before they could create<\/p>\n

The
\nglorious dream of their universal acts;<\/p>\n

Here
\nwas engendered the spiritual birth,<\/p>\n

Here
\nclosed the finite’s crawl to the Infinite.<\/p>\n

A
\nthousand roads leaped into Eternity<\/p>\n

Or
\nsinging ran to meet God’s veilless<\/span>
\nface.<\/p>\n

The
\nknown released him from its limiting chain,<\/p>\n

He
\nknocked at the doors of the Unknowable.<\/p>\n

Thence
\ngazing with an immeasurable outlook<\/p>\n

One
\nwith self’s inlook<\/span> into its
\nown pure vasts<\/span>,<\/p>\n

He
\nsaw the splendour<\/span> of the
\nspirit’s realms,<\/p>\n

The
\ngreatness and wonder of its boundless works,<\/p>\n

The
\npower and passion leaping from its calm,<\/p>\n

The
\nrapture of its movement and its rest,<\/p>\n

And
\nits fire-sweet miracle of transcendent life,<\/p>\n

The
\nmillion-pointing undivided grasp<\/p>\n

Of
\nits vision of one same stupendous All,<\/p>\n

Its
\ninexhaustible acts in a timeless Time,<\/p>\n

A
\nspace that is its own infinity.<\/p>\n

A
\nglorious multiple of one radiant Self,<\/p>\n

Answering
\nto joy with joy, to love with love,<\/p>\n

All
\nthere were moving mansions of God-bliss;<\/p>\n

Eternal
\nand unique they lived the One.<\/p>\n

There
\nforces are great outbursts of God’s truth<\/p>\n

And
\nobjects are its pure spiritual shapes;<\/p>\n

Spirit
\nno more is hid from its own view,<\/p>\n

All
\nsentience is a sea of happiness<\/p>\n

And
\nall creation is an act of light.<\/p>\n

Out
\nof the neutral silence of his soul<\/p>\n

He
\npassed to its fields of puissance and of calm<\/p>\n

And
\nsaw the Powers that stand above the world,<\/p>\n

Traversed
\nthe realms of the supreme Idea<\/p>\n

And
\nsought the summit of created things<\/p>\n

And
\nthe almighty source of cosmic change. <\/p>\n

There
\nknowledge called him to her mystic peaks<\/p>\n

Where
\nthought is held in a vast internal sense<\/p>\n

\nvision climbs beyond the reach of Time.<\/p>\n

An
\nequal of the first creator seers,<\/p>\n

Accompanied
\nby an all-revealing light<\/p>\n

He
\nmoved through regions of transcendent Truth<\/p>\n

Inward,
\nimmense, innumerably one.<\/p>\n

There
\ndistance was his own huge spirit’s extent;<\/p>\n

Delivered
\nfrom the fictions of the mind<\/p>\n

Time’s
\ntriple dividing step baffled no more;<\/p>\n

Its
\ninevitable and continuous stream,<\/p>\n

The
\nlong flow of its manifesting course,<\/p>\n

Was
\nheld in spirit’s single wide regard.<\/p>\n

A
\nuniversal beauty showed its face;<\/p>\n

The
\ninvisible deep-fraught significances,<\/p>\n

Here
\nsheltered behind form’s insensible screen,<\/p>\n

Uncovered
\nto him their deathless harmony<\/p>\n

And
\nthe key to the wonder-book of common things.<\/p>\n

In
\ntheir uniting law stood up revealed<\/p>\n

The
\nmultiple measures of the uplifting<\/span>
\nforce,<\/p>\n

The
\nlines of the World-Geometer’s technique,<\/p>\n

The
\nenchantments that uphold the cosmic web<\/p>\n

And
\nthe magic underlying simple shapes.<\/p>\n

On
\npeaks where Silence listens with still heart<\/p>\n

To
\nthe rhythmic metres of the rolling worlds,<\/p>\n

He
\nserved the sessions of the triple fire.<\/p>\n

On
\nthe rim of two continents of slumber and trance<\/p>\n

He
\nheard the ever unspoken Reality’s voice<\/p>\n

Awaken
\nrevelation’s mystic cry,<\/p>\n

The
\nbirth-place found of the sudden infallible Word<\/p>\n

And
\nlived in the rays of an intuitive Sun.<\/p>\n

Absolved
\nfrom the ligaments of death and sleep<\/p>\n

He
\nrode the lightning seas of cosmic Mind<\/p>\n

And
\ncrossed the ocean of original sound;<\/p>\n

On
\nthe last step to the supernal birth <\/p>\n

He
\ntrod along extinction’s narrow edge<\/p>\n

Near
\nthe high verges of eternity,<\/p>\n

And
\nmounted the gold ridge of the World-dream<\/p>\n

\nthe slayer and the saviour<\/span>
\nfires;<\/p>\n

The
\nbelt he reached of the unchanging Truth,<\/p>\n

Met
\nborders of the inexpressible Light<\/p>\n

And
\nthrilled with the presence of the Ineffable.<\/p>\n

Above
\nhim he saw the flaming Hierarchies,<\/p>\n

The
\nwings that fold around created space,<\/p>\n

The
\nsun-eyed Guardians and the golden Sphinx<\/p>\n

And
\nthe tiered planes and the immutable Lords.<\/p>\n

A
\nwisdom waiting on Omniscience<\/p>\n

Sat
\nvoiceless in a vast passivity;<\/p>\n

It
\njudged not, measured not, nor strove to know,<\/p>\n

But
\nlistened for the veiled all-seeing Thought<\/p>\n

And
\nthe burden of a calm transcendent Voice.<\/p>\n

He
\nhad reached the top of all that can be known:<\/p>\n

His
\nsight surpassed creation’s head and base;<\/p>\n

Ablaze
\nthe triple heavens revealed their suns,<\/p>\n

The
\nobscure Abyss exposed its monstrous rule.<\/p>\n

All
\nbut the ultimate Mystery was his field,<\/p>\n

Almost
\nthe Unknowable disclosed its rim.<\/p>\n

His
\nself’s infinities began to emerge,<\/p>\n

The
\nhidden universes cried to him;<\/p>\n

Eternities
\ncalled to eternities<\/p>\n

Sending
\ntheir speechless message still remote.<\/p>\n

Arisen
\nfrom the marvel of the depths<\/p>\n

And
\nburning from the superconscious<\/span>
\nheights<\/p>\n

And
\nsweeping in great horizontal gyres<\/p>\n

A
\nmillion energies joined and were the One.<\/p>\n

All
\nflowed immeasurably to one sea:<\/p>\n

All
\nliving forms became its atom homes.<\/p>\n

A Panergy<\/span> that harmonised<\/span>
\nall life<\/p>\n

Held
\nnow existence in its vast control;<\/p>\n

A
\nportion of that majesty he was made.<\/p>\n

At
\nwill he lived in the unoblivious<\/span>
\nRay.<\/p>\n

In that
\nhigh realm where no untruth can come,<\/p>\n

Where
\nall are different and all is one,<\/p>\n

In
\nthe Impersonal’s<\/span> ocean without

The
\nPerson in the World-Spirit anchored rode;<\/p>\n

It
\nthrilled with the mighty marchings<\/span>
\nof World-Force,<\/p>\n

Its
\nacts were the comrades of God’s infinite peace.<\/p>\n

An
\nadjunct glory and a symbol self,<\/p>\n

The
\nbody was delivered to the soul,\u2014<\/p>\n

An
\nimmortal point of power, a block of poise<\/p>\n

In a
\n cosmicity’s<\/span> wide formless
\nsurge,<\/p>\n

A
\nconscious edge of the Transcendent’s<\/span>
\nmight<\/p>\n

Carving
\nperfection from a bright world-stuff,<\/p>\n

It
\nfigured in it a universe’s sense.<\/p>\n

There
\nconsciousness was a close and single weft;<\/p>\n

The
\nfar and near were one in spirit-space,<\/p>\n

The
\nmoments there were pregnant with all time.<\/p>\n

The superconscient’s<\/span> screen was
\nripped by thought,<\/p>\n

Idea
\nrotated symphonies of sight,<\/p>\n

Sight
\nwas a flame-throw from identity;<\/p>\n

Life
\nwas a marvellous<\/span> journey of
\nthe spirit,<\/p>\n

Feeling
\na wave from the universal Bliss.<\/p>\n

In
\nthe kingdom of the Spirit’s power and light,<\/p>\n

As
\nif one who arrived out of infinity’s womb<\/p>\n

He
\ncame new-born, infant and limitless<\/p>\n

And
\ngrew in the wisdom of the timeless Child;<\/p>\n

He
\nwas a vast that soon became a Sun.<\/p>\n

A
\ngreat luminous silence whispered to his heart;<\/p>\n

His
\nknowledge an inview<\/span> caught
\nunfathomable,<\/p>\n

An outview<\/span> by no brief horizons
\ncut:<\/p>\n

He
\nthought and felt in all, his gaze had power.<\/p>\n

He
\ncommuned with the Incommunicable;<\/p>\n

Beings
\nof a wider consciousness were his friends,<\/p>\n

Forms
\nof a larger subtler make drew near;<\/p>\n

The
\nGods conversed with him behind Life’s veil.<\/p>\n

Neighbour<\/span> his being grew to
\nNature’s crests.<\/p>\n

The
\nprimal Energy took him in its arms; <\/p>\n

His
\nbrain was wrapped in overwhelming light,<\/p>\n

An
\nall-embracing knowledge seized his heart:<\/p>\n

\nthrough mortal nerves:<\/p>\n

He
\nscanned the secrets of the Overmind<\/span>,<\/p>\n

He
\nbore the rapture of the Oversoul.<\/span><\/p>\n

A
\nborderer of the empire of the Sun,<\/p>\n

Attuned
\nto the supernal harmonies,<\/p>\n

He
\nlinked creation to the Eternal’s<\/span>
\nsphere,<\/p>\n

His
\nfinite parts approached their absolutes,<\/p>\n

His
\nactions framed the movements of the Gods,<\/p>\n

His
\nwill took up the reins of cosmic Force.<\/p>\n
