IDENTITY
\nOF THEIR CONSCIOUSNESS<\/font><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n


\nIDENTITY OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND PATH<\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n

T<\/b>he opposition between the Mother’s
\nconsciousness and my consciousness was an invention of the old days (due mainly
\nto X, Y and others of that time) and
\nemerged in a time when the Mother was not fully recognised or accepted by some
\nof those who were here at the beginning. Even after they had recognised her
\nthey persisted in this meaningless
\nopposition and did great harm to them and others. The Mother’s consciousness
\nand mine are the same, the one Divine Consciousness in two, because that is
\nnecessary for the play. Nothing can be done without her knowledge and force,
\nwithout her consciousness \u2014 if anybody really feels her consciousness, he
\nshould know that I am there behind it and if he feels me it is the same with
\nhers. If a separation is made like that (I leave aside the turns which their
\nminds so strongly put upon these things),
\nhow can the Truth establish itself\u2014from the Truth there is no such separation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n3-11-1934<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

The Mother’s
\nconsciousness is the divine Consciousness and the Light that comes from it is
\nthe light of the divine Truth, the Force that she brings down is the force of
\nthe divine Truth. One who receives and accepts and lives in the Mother’s light,
\nwill begin to see the truth on all the planes, the mental, the vital, the
\nphysical. He will reject all that is undivine,
\n\u2014 the undivine is the falsehood, the
\nignorance, the error of the dark forces; the
\nundivine is all that is obscure and unwilling to accept the divine Truth and
\nits light and force. The undivine, therefore, is all that is unwilling to
\naccept the light and force of the Mother. That is why I am always telling you
\nto keep yourself in contact with the Mother and with her Light and Force,
\nbecause it is only so that you can come out of this confusion and obscurity and
\nreceive the Truth that comes from above.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nWhen we speak of the Mother’s Light or my Light in a special sense,
\nwe are speaking of a special occult action \u2014 we are speaking of certain lights
\nthat come from the Supermind. In this action
\nthe Mother’s is the White Light that purifies, illu\u00admines, brings down the
\nwhole essence and power of the Truth and makes the transformation possible. But
\nin fact all light that comes from above, from the highest divine Truth is the
\nMother’s.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is no difference between the Mother’s path and mine; we have and have
\nalways had the same path, the path that leads to the supramental
\nchange and the divine realisation; not only
\nat the end, but from the beginning they have been the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nattempt to set up a division and opposition, putting the Mother on one side and
\nmyself on another and opposite or quite different side, has always been a trick
\nof the forces of the Falsehood when they want to prevent a Sadhak from reaching the Truth. Dismiss all such
\nfalsehoods from your mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

Know
\nthat the Mother’s light and force are the light and force of the Truth; remain always in contact with the Mother’s light
\nand force, then only can you grow into the divine Truth.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n10-9-1931 <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever one gets
\nfrom the Mother, comes from myself also \u2014 there is no difference. So, too, if I
\ngive anything, it is by the Mother’s Force that it goes to the Sadhak.<\/span><\/p>\n

20-8-1936
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

You consider that
\nthe Mother can be of no help to you…. If
\nyou cannot profit by her help, you would find still less profit in mine. But,
\nin any case, I have no intention of altering the arrangement I have made for
\nall the disciples without exception that they should receive the light and force
\nfrom her and not directly from me and be guided by her in their spiritual
\nprogress. I have made the arrangement not for any temporary purpose but because
\nit is the one way, provided always the disciple is open and receives, that is
\ntrue and effective (considering what she is arid her power).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Mother and
\nmyself stand for the same Power in two forms \u2014 so the perception in the dream
\nwas perfectly logical. Ishwara-Shakti, Purusha-Prakriti are only the two sides of the one
\nDivine (Brahman).<\/span><\/p>\n

1933<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

It is a very
\ncommon experience, that of the identity between myself and the Mother (the
\nperception that we are one) expressed in the fusing of the two images.<\/span><\/p>\n

4-11-1935<\/span><\/p>\n


\nQ:<\/span><\/i><\/b> From the intimations
\nfrequently received from the play of lights seen in visions I am having a deep
\nfeeling that Sri Aurobindo and the Mother
\nare the same though we see<\/b> them in
\ndifferent bodies. Is my feeling right ?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nA:<\/span><\/b> Yes.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

25-4-1933<\/span><\/p>\n

The dream was an
\nindication of what the Mother and myself are and represent \u2014 I do not think
\nthat it is necessary to say more than that. It indicates that the fulfilment of
\nwhat we stand for is the Divine Love and Ananda.<\/span><\/p>\n

1933 <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Mother and I are
\none but in two bodies; there is no necessity for both the bodies to do the same
\nthing always. On the contrary, as we are one it is quite sufficient for one to
\nsign, just as it is quite sufficient for one to go down to receive Pranam or give meditation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Q:<\/b> Is it the same whether we
\nwrite to Sri Aurobindo or to the Mother ?
\nSome say that both are one, so whether we write to Sri Aurobindo or to the
\nMother we are open to the Mother; is it correct?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nA:<\/b> It is
\ntrue that we are one, but there is also a relation, which necessitates that one
\nshould be open to the Mother.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Q:<\/span><\/i><\/b> Can it happen that one who is open to Sri Aurobindo is not open to
\nthe Mother ? Is it that whoever is open to
\nthe Mother is open to Sri Aurobindo ?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

A:<\/b> The
\nMother-proposition is true. If one is open to Sri Aurobindo and not to the
\nMother it means that one is not really open to Sri Aurobindo.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Q:<\/b> Very often
\nSri Aurobindo says one should allow the Mother’s
\nforce to govern. Does it mean that there is a difference
\nbetween the two forces?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nA:<\/b> There is one force only, the Mother’s force \u2014
\nor, if you like to put it like that, the Mother is Sri Aurobindo’s
\nForce.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nKNOWLEDGE OF
\nTHE MOTHER’S DIVINITY<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\nQ: <\/span><\/b>I believe that on the 24th November 1926 Sri Aurobindo realised that
\nthe Mother is the Divine-Con<\/span><\/i>sciousness <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nand the Force. She alone can uplift the
\nearth-consciousness to the Supreme and so she has taken up the work. Can it be
\ntrue?<\/span><\/p>\n

\nMUTUAL HELP IN PERFECTING THE SADHANA<\/font><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Yogic or spiritual life the antecedents of a
\nperson are of little relevance; we have to see his or her spiritual
\nattainments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mother
\nwas doing Yoga before she knew or met Sri Aurobindo;
\nbut their lines of Sadhana independently
\nfollowed the same course. When they met, they helped each other in perfecting
\nthe Sadhana. What is known as Sri Aurobindo’s
\nYoga is the joint creation of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother; they are now
\ncompletely identified \u2014 the Sadhana in the Ashram
\nand all arrangement is done directly by the
\nMother, Sri Aurobindo supports her from behind. All who come here for
\npractising Yoga have to surrender themselves to the Mother who helps them
\nalways and builds up their spiritual life.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\nSADHANA BEFORE THE MOTHER’S COMING<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It is not clear what your Guru meant by my
\nsitting on the path; that could have been
\ntrue of the period between 1915 and 1920 when I was writing the Arya,<\/i> but the Sadhana and the work were
\nwaiting for the Mother’s coming. In 1923 or 1924, I could not be described as
\nsitting on the path, so far as the Sadhana was concerned, but it may perhaps be
\nonly a metaphor or symbol for the outward form of the work not yet being ready.
\nThe statement about my having gone too high to redescend
\nfor work in the world was made in almost the identical terms by another Yogi
\nalso; it referred to my condition at the
\ntime and cannot be taken as anything more.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nseems to have told Y that the old Sadhaks, who were here before the Mother took up
\nthe work in 1926, had many experiences of Cosmic Consciousness and the Sadhana was much better and more serious than now.
\nHow far is this true?<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A:<\/b> Before the Mother came all were living in the
\nmind with only some mental realisations and experiences. The vital and everything
\nelse were unregenerated and the psychic
\nbehind the veil. I am not aware that anyone of them at that time entered the
\nCosmic Consciousness. At that time I was still seeking my way for the
\ntransformation and the passage to the Supramental
\n(all the part of the Yoga that goes beyond the ordinary Vedanta) and acted very much on a principle of laissez faire<\/i>
\nwith the few Sadhaks who were there. X is one of those who have never ceased
\nregretting that laissez faire \u2014<\/i> he regrets the vital liberty and absence
\nof discipline they then had.<\/span><\/p>\n

27-7-1934<\/span><\/p>\n


\nQ:<\/b>
\nSomebody told me: "Before Sri Aurobindo
\ngave us the Mother as our Guru, he never used to teach us anything about the
\nYoga. He would tell us to follow our own knowledge."
\nDid you really give this advice?<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A:<\/b> I am not aware
\nof that. But now also the Mother does not teach, she asks all to open and
\nreceive. But she does not tell them and I don’t think I told people to follow
\ntheir own "knowledge".<\/span><\/p>\n
