Eyes of the hind,
\n\tyou are my jailors, sweetest;<\/span><\/p>\n

My heart with the
\n\thind\u2019s frightened motion fleetest<\/span><\/p>\n

     
\n\tIn terror strange would flee, <\/span><\/p>\n

But find no issue,
\n\tsweet; for thy quick smiling, <\/span><\/p>\n

Thy tresses like a
\n\tnet with threads beguiling<\/span><\/p>\n

     
\n\tDetain it utterly.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am afraid of thy
\n\tgreat eyes and well-like, <\/span><\/p>\n

 am afraid of thy
\n\tsmall ears and shell-like,<\/span><\/p>\n

Comfort my
\n\tfainting heart with soft assurance <\/span><\/p>\n

And soon it will

\n\t0 then no heart could live thy glance invaded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why any live
\n\twouldst thou have explanation ? <\/span><\/p>\n

Three powers have
\n\tthine eyes of grievous passion.<\/span><\/p>\n

     
\n\tThe first is poison making them death\u2019s portal, <\/span><\/p>\n

The second wine of
\n\tstrong intoxication;<\/span><\/p>\n

     
\n\tThe third is nectar that makes gods immortal. <\/span><\/p>\n

If the heart\u2019s

\n\tthe impatient rain-lark cried<\/span><\/p>\n

     
\n\tContents at last the suffering bird with rain <\/span><\/p>\n

\n\tAnd bids him not to thirst forever.<\/span><\/p>\n

And see the lamp
\n\twith the moth flitting near it;<\/span><\/p>\n

But he invites

To slay a woman\u2019s
\nheart with sad annoy,<\/span><\/p>\n

      <\/span>0 ruddy Dawn, thou
\nopenest in the east. <\/span><\/p>\n

The whispering world
\nbegins in dawn\u2019s red shining, <\/span><\/p>\n

Nor will Night stay
\none hour for lovers\u2019 pining.<\/span><\/p>\n

      <\/span>Ere love is done,
\nmust Dawn our love discover ?<\/span><\/p>\n

I said in anger,

Ah me! but when I
\nsaw my lover\u2019s face,<\/span><\/p>\n

      <\/span>I quite forgot and
\nrushed into his arms.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mine eyes said, \u201cWe
\nwill joy in him no longer;<\/span><\/p>\n

      <\/span>Vainly let him
\nentreat nor pardon crave.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

He came, nor pardon
\nasked; my bonds grew stronger,<\/span><\/p>\n
