Some mental forms, more particularly powerful<br \/>\nor adapted to the temperament, are sure guides<br \/>\nto sovereign experiences. But once the &#8216;experiences<br \/>\nare made. Thy will is that they should be free in<br \/>\nthemselves from the slavery of any mental form,<br \/>\nhowever high or pure it may be, so that they can<br \/>\nexpress themselves in the new form which is the<br \/>\nmost true, that is to say, the most in conformity with<br \/>\nthe experience. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Then Thou hast broken all my thought-forms and<br \/>\nI found myself before Thee destitute of all mental<br \/>\nconstruction, as ignorant in this respect as the child<br \/>\nthat has just been born; and in the darkness of this<br \/>\nvoid was recovered the sovereign peace of Something<br \/>\nwhich is not expressed in words, but which Is. And<br \/>\nI wait without impatience and fear for Thee to<br \/>\nconstruct again, from the heart of the unfathomable <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Page &#8211; 214<\/font><\/p>\n<hr align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">depths, the intellectual form which will appear to<br \/>\nThee the most suited to manifest Thee in this<br \/>\ninstrument moulded of submission and ardent faith. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">And before this immense night full of promise,<br \/>\nI feel, more than I have ever felt before, infinitely<br \/>\nfree and vast. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">And in the supreme beatitude, I thank Thee,<br \/>\nO Lord, for the marvellous favour Thou has bestowed<br \/>\nupon me: that of being before Thee like a child that<br \/>\nhas just been born! <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<b><br \/>\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\"><a name=\"December_10,_1914\"><i>December<\/i> 10, 1914<\/a> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">LISTEN, O Lord,&#8230; in the silence of a profound<br \/>\ninwardness, my prayer rises ardently towards<br \/>\nThee.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Is it not a great folly to identify oneself with a<br \/>\nform of thought, a mental construction, however<br \/>\nvast and powerful it may be, to such an extent as<br \/>\nto make it the vital centre of one&#8217;s being, one&#8217;s<br \/>\nexperience and activity? Truth is eternally outside<br \/>\nall that we can think or say of it. To try to find an<br \/>\nexpression, the most conformable and best adapted<br \/>\nto this truth, is certainly a work useful or even<br \/>\nindispensable for the integrality of one&#8217;s own development and the development of the whole of humanity,<br \/>\nbut one must always feel free in front of this expression, keep one&#8217;s centre of consciousness above it, in <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Page &#8211; 215<\/font><\/p>\n<hr align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">the reality which, inspite of the greatness, beauty and<br \/>\nperfection of a mental formula, will always elude all<br \/>\nformula. The world is not what we think it to be. The<br \/>\nimportance of the idea we have of it lies in its result<br \/>\non our attitude towards action, and this attitude can<br \/>\ndepend on an inspiration much more profound, true<br \/>\nand unchanging than that which comes from a mental<br \/>\nconstruction, however powerful it may be. To feel<br \/>\nin oneself the will to translate for men the eternal<br \/>\nTruth in a form more complete, higher, more exact<br \/>\nthan all the forms that have preceded it, is good,<br \/>\nbut on the condition that we do not identify our<br \/>\n&quot;I&quot; with this work to such an extent as to become<br \/>\nits slave and lose in the face of it all independence<br \/>\nand self-control. It is an activity and nothing more,<br \/>\nwhatever may be its importance from the earthly<br \/>\npoint of view; but we must not forget that it is, like<br \/>\nall activities, relative, and we should not let it trouble<br \/>\nour profound peace and the changeless calm which<br \/>\nalone enables the divine forces to manifest themselves<br \/>\nthrough us without deformation. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">O Lord, my prayer is not formulated, but it is<br \/>\nheard by Thee. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<b><br \/>\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\"><a name=\"December_12,_1914\"><i>December 12,<\/i> 1914<\/a> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">AT every moment we must know how to lose<i> <\/i>everything in order to gain everything, to <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Page &#8211; 216<\/font><\/p>\n<hr align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">shed the past as a dead body and be reborn into a<br \/>\ngreater plenitude&#8230; It is thus that expresses itself the<br \/>\nconstant aspiration of the inner being which, turned<br \/>\ntowards Thee, would reflect Thee as in an ever<br \/>\npurer and purer mirror; and Thy immutable Beatitude<br \/>\nis translated in it by an impelling force of progress<br \/>\nof an incomparable intensity; and this force is<br \/>\ntransformed in the most external being into a calm<br \/>\nand assured will which no obstacle can overthrow. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">O divine Master, with what an ardent love I am<br \/>\nThy servant! With what a pure immobile and<br \/>\ninfinite joy I am Thyself in all that is beyond<b><br \/>\n<\/b>all<b> <\/b>formed existence! <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">And the two consciousnesses become one in an<br \/>\nunequalled plenitude. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<b><br \/>\n<a name=\"December_15,_1914\"><br \/>\n<i><br \/>\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">December<\/font><\/i><\/b><b><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> 15, 1914<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Times New Roman\"> <\/font><br \/>\n<\/b> <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0;text-indent:25px\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">LORD, Thou hast given me peace in strength,<br \/>\nserenity in action and an unchanging happiness<br \/>\nin the midst of all circumstances. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\"><b><a name=\"December_22,_1914\"><i>December<\/i> 22, 1914<\/a> <\/b> <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">IT is for the Truth, O Lord, that I implore<br \/>\nThee. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" style=\"line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"2\">Page &#8211; 217<\/font><\/p>\n<hr align=\"justify\">\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Restore to activity this mind which made itself<br \/>\ndumb that it might surrender to Thee; give to it<br \/>\nthe knowledge of Thy will. <\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"line-height: 150%;text-indent: 25px;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">It was receptive and allowed all possibilities to<br \/>\ntake form in it; then to put a stop to the conflict<br \/>\nof their contrary tendencies, it refused to admit<br \/>\nthese importunate visitors; it said, &quot;I do not need<br \/>\nto live an active life, to know what is Thy will, O<br \/>\nLord, provided that I let the ray of Thy eternal light<br \/>\npass through me without deforming it.&quot; Even so<br \/>\nit was done; the will became submissive, straight-<br \/>\nforward, precise and strong.
