They cover a period of twenty years, from 1890 to 1910,<br \/>\nprior to his withdrawal to Pondicherry. The political writings and speeches<br \/>\nof this period, revealing the active part he played in India&#8217;s struggle for<br \/>\nindependence, are collected in Volumes 1 and 2, the poetry, plays, translations in their appropriate volumes.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 24pt;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Section One: It contains the earliest available prose writings, dated 1890-92, his student days in England. <i>Stray Thoughts<\/i> in this section are gleaned<br \/>\nfrom scattered notes found in the same manuscript.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 24pt;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Section Two:<b> <\/b> On the passing away of Bankim Chandra Chatterji in1894 Sri Aurobindo contributed this series of seven articles to the <i>Indu Prakash<\/i> of Bombay edited by his Cambridge friend K. G. Deshpande.<br \/>\nIt ran from 16 July to 27 August 1894.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 24pt;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Sections Three, Four and Five: The writings in these three sections belong to the Baroda period. Most of them are from manuscripts that<br \/>\nremained unknown till 1950. Only <i>The Age of Kalidasa<\/i> and <i>Kalidasa&#8217;s <\/i> &quot;<i>Seasons<\/i>&quot; were available earlier. They were first printed in 1909 in the<br \/>\n<i>Karmayogin<\/i>, the English Weekly Review Sri Aurobindo edited in 1909-10.<br \/>\nThey were later published in book-form in 1929 after some revision, under<br \/>\nthe title K<font size=\"2\">ALIDASA<\/font>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 24pt;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Sections Six, Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten: All the articles in these<br \/>\nfive sections were written for the <i>Karmayogin<\/i>, except <i>Hatha Yoga<\/i> and <i>Raja<br \/>\nYoga<\/i> (Section Seven) and <i>Mazzini\u2014Cavour\u2014Garibaldi, Shivaji\u2014Jai Singh, Littleton\u2014Percival<\/i> (Section Ten). A few of the articles in<br \/>\nSection Seven were brought out in book-form under the title T<font size=\"2\">HE<br \/>\n<\/font>I<font size=\"2\">DEAL<br \/>\nOF THE <\/font>K<font size=\"2\">ARMAYOGIN <\/font>in 1918. The fourth edition in 1927 was revised.<\/font><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\" style=\"text-indent: 24pt;line-height: 150%;margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<font face=\"Times New Roman\">Section Nine: The articles <i>Epistles from Abroad<\/i>,<i><br \/>\nIn the Society&#8217;s Chambers<\/i>,<i> At the Society&#8217;s Chambers<\/i> are published for the first time.
